Astrology is a practice that raises strong opinions for understandable reasons, but I’m here to dispel some myths about astrology, so we can move forward to use the benefits of this practice in our shadow work.
Like most things in life there is nothing hype, media, and the urge to capitalize can’t drag down and tear apart. While astrology is an art that’s over two-thousand years old and has been practiced by some of our favourite deep thinkers such as Albert Einstein and Carl Jung, during the witch trials this practice understandably went underground. In the 20th century astrology had a minor revival when someone realized that astrology could be used to sell newspapers. What was originally a practice that took years of study to understand was boiled down into the most simplistic version of itself, what we know as sun sign astrology.
This creates a lot of the mental conflict people have with astrology today. It’s frustrating to hear people say this group of people are Pisces and this group of people are Aries. How can humans be divided into 12 groups? I’m here to say we can’t, but the real practice of astrology has a lot more to it than which sign our sun is in the day we were born. At it’s deepest level astrology is an involved study of the archetypes that make up our lives and the world around us. While I won’t jump straight into the the complexities of astrology, one important thing to know is there were many more planets in the sky on the day you were born than just the sun.
In our astrology and shadow work series we will investigate how these archetypes play out in our lives, assisting us, limiting us, and impacting our view of the world around us. This week we are becoming familiar with how to find our birth chart and look up which zodiac signs all our planets are in. In the coming weeks we will break down each planet and how it behaves in each of the zodiac signs, then we will look at shadow practices that relate to these forces in our lives.
