We humans are designed for risk. When we're risking with intention, we're living our lives for something bigger than ourselves. In Matthew, Jesus describes the kingdom of heaven as like treasure hidden in a field. It comes only when we're willing to risk everything for it.
In the Beatitudes, when Jesus says, blessed are, he's actually saying happy are. He actually addresses negative emotions like mourning, sorrow, brokenness. The happiest people in the world embrace their sadness. It is about celebrating life all the time. The happiest people in the world are the ones who have a reason to suffer. The apostles left the Sanhedrin rejoicing, rejoicing because they had been counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the name. We are designed for adventure. If you begin to make choices where you're adverse, then you're not happy.
During a time of tragic loss with the fires raging in Los Angeles, Pastor Erwin McManus brought a dynamic message helping us see God’s presence in the middle of it all. Jesus says anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate is a thief and a robber. Sheep can hear their shepherd's voice and they follow. This is the singular defining characteristic of someone who belongs to God. Can you develop the ability to hear God's voice? If you're going to learn how to hear God's voice, you need to realize your inner world is voice activated. Have you ever found yourself just talking and talking to yourself? And the people whose lives are healthier are the ones who make sure that the voices that are activated in their soul are ones that make them the best version of themselves. Jesus says there is a thief that wants to steal your life. He activates his voice inside of your soul. The voices that are fighting for you are actually two voices. One voice is calling you to life, and one voice is called you to death. 2025 is the year that you pay attention to the voice, voice of God. When you hear God speaking, you act. Here's small ways. When an action to do good is activated in your heart, just do it.As human beings, our inner worlds are activated by the words we speak externally and internally. In this moment, what you need more than anything else in life is life. If you'll wake up every morning and make this declaration, I am alive, you will speak life into the inner world of your soul.

When you become a relational idealist, when you begin to believe in others, you're not free from wounds. Jesus was betrayed by a kiss, so don't be surprised when you are. And I can make the world better when I believe in people. Once we believe in ourselves, we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight, or any experience that reveals the human spirit. When God believes in you, you start becoming what he sees in you. You have to actually learn how to celebrate with others. It's really, really easy to like people when they're doing poorly.
Last year when our company collapsed, I had so many people who liked me. It's so much easier to be a friend when that friend has a world that's falling apart. But when the world thins out, the world has to celebrate your success. This is what the economy of God is like. We like people when they are in the same condition as usual or worse. But we don't like it when people seem to get what they got by working less or got more than we got by not earning it. Why is it easier to celebrate your success when someone else has failed?
Today is Foundation Sunday. The question we should be asking is what do we want for the future of humanity. How can we be a significant part of shifting the human story in the direction of what is good and beautiful and true?It's easy to spend your entire life just paying the bills rather than building something. There are very few churches that actually built a foundation to reach people who would never walk into church. This is one of the reasons tithing is such a brilliant idea from God. I am convinced there are places in the world that desperately need us to pay the price to prove that Jesus is relevant there. Mosaic has carefully crafted what it feels like to be a community of faith. That's the key that will unlock so many cities, he says. He asks you to join him in paying an absurd personal price to do what humanity desperately needs.Mosaic needs about like a 7 million dollar budget every year in LA just to do what we do. But if you can get around people who are compassionate, you start becoming compassionate. There's something that happens in community that changes you.

When you love someone, you lose your mind. The best way to never put yourself in danger is to never love just before yourself. Love realigns your choices and redefines your life. Why do we even think about unconditional love? It's because our souls know we're designed for unconditional love.

A lot of us live in this compulsive religious trap where we keep performing for God rather than listening to God. He says Solomon warned us that we need to stop playing with God. Greene: If you're giving because you hope that giving will somehow get God on your side, you're just wasting your money. Sometimes we just perform for God, but I think other times we're actually pretending with God. Solomon tells us not to be hasty in your heart to utter anything before God. There's nothing more destructive to the human spirit than pretending withGod. It is better not to make a vow than to make one and not fulfill it. Much dreaming and many words are meaningless, therefore fear God. God holds us accountable for our dreams. I think it's better to make fewer promises and live on the promises.
A husband and a wife made a vow to God, and didn't keep it. With his wife's full knowledge, he kept back part of the money for himself. When Ananias heard this, he fell down and died. Great fear seized the whole church. If you're going to lie about God and pretend you're doing things for God, you have just provoked God.
Until you change your values, you will not change how you live your life. We need to recognize that everything in life will pull away at the relationships that we have. It's what we do to nurture those relationships that really brings meaning to our lives. I think one of the greatest gifts that we have as a community is to create community and provide community for those around us. Relationships are tough. Sometimes the greatest gift you can give another human being is to invite them to come with you and serve the world together.When two or more are gathered in my name, he says, I am there in the mist. The church has not been particularly helpful in the last few decades of helping people connect to God. Don't use all the problems in the church to be an excuse for an individualistic spirituality. When we're all alone, I can't always explain it. It has been with me for 50 years of my life. The difference now is that for decades, I just carried that inside of me alone. We all are just one thin breath away from feeling as if we're alone in the world.

Joshua 3:1-17"Early in the morning Joshua and all the Israelites set out from Shittim and went to the Jordan, where they camped before crossing over. After three days the officers went throughout the camp, giving orders to the people: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the Levitical priests carrying it, you are to move out from your positions and follow it. Then you will know which way to go, since you have never been this way before. But keep a distance of about two thousand cubits between you and the ark; do not go near it.” Joshua told the people, “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.” Joshua said to the priests, “Take up the ark of the covenant and pass on ahead of the people.” So they took it up and went ahead of them. And the Lord said to Joshua, “Today I will begin to exalt you in the eyes of all Israel, so they may know that I am with you as I was with Moses. Tell the priests who carry the ark of the covenant: ‘When you reach the edge of the Jordan’s waters, go and stand in the river.’ ” Joshua said to the Israelites, “Come here and listen to the words of the Lord your God. This is how you will know that the living God is among you and that he will certainly drive out before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites and Jebusites. See, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth will go into the Jordan ahead of you. Now then, choose twelve men from the tribes of Israel, one from each tribe. And as soon as the priests who carry the ark of the Lord —the Lord of all the earth—set foot in the Jordan, its waters flowing downstream will be cut off and stand up in a heap.” So when the people broke camp to cross the Jordan, the priests carrying the ark of the covenant went ahead of them. Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. Yet as soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge, the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan, while the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho. The priests who carried the ark of the covenant of the Lord stopped in the middle of the Jordan and stood on dry ground, while all Israel passed by until the whole nation had completed the crossing on dry ground."

We have felt as though we are stuck in a hypothetical desert. But if Jesus could find rest in the midst of the darkest circumstances, surely he can give us the same peace wherever we find ourselves. And though it is tempting to perceive ourselves as victims, Jesus exemplifies what it means to live as a victor-even as he gave up his own life for us.Though Jesus only lived for 33 years, Pastor Erwin highlights that he lived out the fullness of his purpose in those short years. Just as he lived with intention even on the cross, Jesus invites us to live with the same intention. This week in a follow up of "The Stories We Tell Ourselves," Pastor Erwin McManus navigates the flip side of the negative stories we tell ourselves. Whether you resonate most with the story of the victim, martyr, innocent, or the hero - there is another story you are meant to tell!
In 2 Corinthians 1, we learn that God intends to use the moments we have been treated as victims to bring healing to others who have walked through similar situations. We have the ability to turn our pain into purpose as we stop seeing ourselves as the victim and instead embrace the story of the healer.
The story of Abraham unfolds in Genesis chapter 2, as God calls him to leave the comfort of his home. Abraham could have embraced the story of the martyr, believing that he was the only one called to sacrifice for a new future. But Pastor Erwin challenges us to follow Abraham's example by embracing the story of a pioneer.
Caleb embraced the story of the activist instead of the innocent in Joshua chapter 14. When Joshua offered him an out because of his old age, Caleb chose to embrace the promise of God and lived a life of courage up until the very end of his life.
Jesus, the most powerful human in history, took the posture of a servant instead of the hero in John 13. He washed Peter's feet and led with humility when he could have ruled with dominance.

Lead Pastor Erwin McManus shares an empowering new message that gives us insight into how God orchestrates our calling in our lives. Though it is common to assume that the calling God gives us will fit like a glove, Pastor Erwin challenges this notion. Instead of fitting us perfectly, God’s calling is always bigger than us and requires that we lean into His power to step into it fully.
In 2 Thessalonians chapter 1, we read that God is the one who makes us fit for the calling He gives us. But there are times when we take on the calling others have placed on us instead of God’s. These callings don’t fit the unique plans that God has for us and they leave us unfulfilled, living below our intended purpose.

What alienates us from the presence of God? How do we not succumb to fear of failure, but have faith in a better future? Pastor Erwin McManus brings a compelling message that reminds us where the real battle of our lives is won or lost: the battle of our inner world.
In 1 Kings 19:1-19 Elijah was afraid of a threat of death from Jezebel and ran for his life. After a great moment of courage where God provided for him, his faith was corrupted by fear. Fear is the negative expression of our faith, founded in a belief that the worst will happen to us. Pastor Erwin teaches us that whatever informs us, forms us; we must listen and pay close attention to the inner voices that shape our choices.
Our future is not destined to be a replica of our past. God empowers each of us to face our fears and run into our freedom. Though we can be tempted like Elijah to run away from our fears, God reminds us over and over in the scriptures that He will meet us in our fear and use it to make us stronger. God wants to shape our inner world in the midst of our biggest battle. It is through the mastery of our inner worlds that we will find peace.

Many of us grew up in environments where we were encouraged to lay our ambitions aside in the name of following Jesus. We were told that it was vain to pursue success in many arenas. In this message, Pastor Erwin McManus challenges this cultural belief by diving into Matthew 20:20-28. In this passage, Jesus redefines the definition of greatness for his followers.
Pastor Erwin shares that Scripture never condemns the human desire to accomplish great things. In Matthew 20, Jesus simply encouraged his followers to see greatness as the result of sacrificial servanthood. We were not meant to live average, mediocre lives. We were meant to live with an ambition that works hard to see dreams accomplished and success realized. Because we are exposed to so much information about those who have accomplished greatness, it can be easy to believe that high levels of success are easy to come by. Pastor Erwin suggests that our greatness is waiting to be uncovered by hard work and discipline. At times, it can feel as though we are too broken for God to do anything great in our lives. The incredible news is that there is nothing God can't use in our lives to make us better. God takes our damage and uses it to make us who we were actually created to be. No matter what we're going through or what we have experienced, God has an incredible way of pulling us together because with God nothing is wasted. Moses' life was so unexpected on many levels. His story is a true reminder that how we start doesn't have to be how we finish. Sometimes we make decisions and let them cripple us and steal from our future. In Acts 7:30-32 Moses met God and God directed him toward his future. It says “An angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai. When he saw this, he was amazed at the sight. As he went over to get a closer look, he heard the Lord say: ‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Moses trembled with fear and did not dare to look." The only way to leave our past in the past is to let God create a new future. There are things we will do that we must own. There will always be people who want to define us by the worst moments in life. Even when Moses was running God, was preparing him. When we think we are wasting time, God uses time as fertilizer. For some of us, having faith in God comes more naturally. For others, it isn’t that simple. In this message from August of 2018, Pastor Erwin McManus walks us through his journey of finding faith. He explains that to him, the journey to Jesus was just that: a journey! Growing up he experienced a wide array of religions and was exposed to many world views. He did not imagine being a pastor when he grew up. As we navigate our way through life, we are informed about different religions and ways to God. But how do we know which path really is the way? Pastor Erwin references John 14:6 when Jesus says “No one comes to the Father except through me.” He explains that Jesus came to us and did not force us to believe. Rather, our own souls call us to believe in something more, and that Jesus is the only God that is searching for us, rather than us searching for God. When we have only a mathematical view of the world, we simply become a part of the falling domino effect. Our lives are a passive happening that, within them, we do not have freedom of choice. But we know there must be more intention and meaning to our lives than this. We know deep down there is purpose, and that our choices make a powerful impact on the future. Pastor Erwin McManus inspires us with this great message from April 22, 2018 as part of our "Best Of" Series. — Many of us long to step into the life Jesus imagined for us. But how do we really do it? First, we must realize that faith is not a moment or merely a one-time decision. Inviting God into our lives is just the starting point. There's much necessary work needed to move into a spiritual depth. Sometimes we misunderstand what it looks like to step into faith with God but the struggle of faith is not a new struggle!
Asaph shares his struggles in Psalms 73:1-2 “God is truly good to Israel, to those who have pure hearts but I had almost stopped believing this truth. I had almost lost my faith because I was jealous of proud people. I saw wicked people doing well." We lose our clarity when we focus on what others are doing. As long as we're looking at others’ journeys and comparing, we're walking blind.
There will be moments in life that just don't make sense. Because of this, our faith must be connected to who God is instead of understanding all that God does. There may be days we question if it's worth it. Like Asaph, we're human and we have struggles, but when we stay close to Jesus we don't have to run when crisis comes. We meet God right in the middle of our journey.

This future that’s becoming a reality belongs to those who are bold enough to create it. Right now, someone is creating a future for us to live in. The future is not created passively.
The words from Solomon in the book of Ecclesiastes help us build the kind of future we long for. Solomon teaches us that we must have a generous spirit to create the greatest impact. We must ask ourselves: are we committed to doing the most good we can? Solomon says in Ecclesiastes chapter 11, "Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight; you do not know what disaster may come upon the land. If clouds are full of water, they pour rain on the earth. Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north, in the place where it falls, there it will lie."
Our human portfolio must be diversified because we never know what disaster might come. We must not hesitate to take all of the ground we can. Those who create the future understand what we consume is what will come out of our lives. If we want to exhale courage, we have to inhale it consistently. Love makes us strong, hope makes us resilient and hope transforms our lives. What are we full of right now? We must remember the people who change the world are the ones who decide where and how they will leave their mark.

There is no doubt that this year has been devastating for so many of us. Job loss has been unprecedented and a sense of lost hope is tangible. Times of such great uncertainty can leave us grabbing onto safety, just struggling to survive. The good news is that God’s promises reach us in our present circumstances today.
Pastor Erwin McManus leads us through Isaiah 61 as He encourages us that God is a God who restores. When we let God inhabit our lives, we begin to see differently. God gives us eyes to see wounds that need healing. He gives us the ability to be healing to what is broken. But first, we have to be willing to be broken. Though our culture fears weakness, we are reminded that God can use the material of our brokenness to create a beautiful future. God wants to fill our imaginations with possibilities in place of our despair because with God-nothing is wasted. There is no question if God has a great future for us. The question is, are we willing to pay the cost to see it come to pass?

We've faced so much this year. It’s been a year with challenges that have at times felt endless. In moments like these, we must remember to look back and single out moments that we can express gratitude for. When we look back at 2020, we don't only want to remember the struggles.
We must remember the moments that have been gifts to us. The story of Jesus may be familiar but we can choose to lean in with wonder as if we've never heard it before. In Luke 2:11 it reads, "Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; He is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” One birth changed human history.
2,000 years ago Jesus didn't wait for the perfect time. The perfect time is sometimes in the middle of what looks like a disaster. Love sees a disaster and brings the healing. God will push through all things to create a scenario where he could get to us. 2020 was disastrous but we must not miss the miraculous. God always has a plan for redemption. Christmas is a miracle story and we are vehicles for the miraculous.

Although no one knew her, God saw her. Overjoyed by the message from God, Mary burst into song. "My soul glorifies in the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for He has been mindful of the humble state of his servant." After Mary was told by an Angel that she would carry a baby boy, the son of God, she was shocked and overjoyed responding “I'm your servant, may your will be fulfilled." God can take the humble and raise them up.
When we want God to see us we must choose humility, honor and courage as Mary did. When we’re full of ourselves or unkind, we move out of God sight. God’s mercy extends to those who fear him and scatters those who are arrogant. Mary’s song is a declaration that God is doing something to be remembered forever in human history, through those who humble themselves. We must remember the more we are full of ourselves the more invisible we become to God. Kindness and compassion is what God sees. This is the material that God uses.

While we’re home we can choose to make this the best Christmas ever. We can’t let this season pass by uncelebrated! In the first chapter of Luke, the author documents Jesus’ extraordinary life in real-time. Luke knew that the things Jesus was doing were so incredible and it would be hard for people to believe. Because of this, he wanted to make sure to make a historical record of what he saw. Luke took on the role of an eyewitness and servant.
To be a servant of the world, we must do our part in the history we’re living through. We may find ourselves wondering if God knows what to do in this moment. He does! This is the moment where we need to be sharing how God has been good to us.
We need to make sure we’re telling the orderly account of what God is doing in our lives. Even if the middle has been rough, it’s how the story ends that matters. We need to be eyewitnesses of God's activity and servants of that reality. We’re all supposed to be like Luke, writing the orderly account of God’s work. God is grounded in this moment and He is here with us. But we need to ground ourselves in Him or this moment may overwhelm us.

How do we navigate this moment in history through rumors, chaos, and uncertainty? Pastor Erwin McManus invites us to look back as we look forward. Acts chapter 4 lays the foundation of the Church. They had little history with Jesus, and therefore they had to trust.
This is a beautiful parallel to life right now. 2020 has been a year of instability-and this reality is new to us. Nevertheless, we are deciding to trust God and each other. This moment of crisis has compelled our community at Mosaic to be creative and to ask, ‘How do we thrive and make an impact during this time?’ In 2020 we’ve had 4,439 people trust Jesus with their lives. This year our community has decentralized through new technology we’ve had 444,580 people attend Mosaic virtually. We’ve had 278 people became reoccurring givers; 887 different people have chosen to give to Mosaic.
We must step into this moment without fear as they did in Acts. In Luke 4:33 we learn that their giving was motivated by wanting the message of Jesus to be taken to the world. When Jesus is the core of the Church, it is unstoppable. We must remember the Church is here to bring hope to every single person. We must continue to serve and invest. The Church is God’s instrument to bring life, hope, and love to the world.

Life is a series of choices. So many moments in our lives are reflected by our reactions. The choices we’re aware of are our conscious choices. When we quickly react-that’s a response to an unconscious choice. When we make an unconscious choice, we’re not taking in all of the information. An unconscious choice is a direct reflection of our internal world. It’s a result of information that comes from our character. The only way to change how we react is by changing the material of our inner world. In Mathew chapter 8:21 when Jesus invites a disciple to follow Him, the response He gets is, “Lord, first let me go and bury my father.” How many times have we been frustrated with God because he didn’t pick us? Often times we think that God hasn’t chosen us, but in reality God has chosen us first but our response to Him starts with “but first…." Whenever God is not first on our list he is not on our list. If we want our life to have an alignment with God, we must align our hearts first. Jesus isn’t saying we can’t have our own passions and desires. There’s a divide between being a visual learner and an auditable learner. To truly follow Jesus, we need to be good both. The Bible is not trying to heighten our visual reading skills-it’s trying to heighten our auditory skills. We must learn to hear God's voice clearly so we can identify it. Throughout the Scriptures, there’s an overwhelming theme of the power of God’s voice. We simply cannot navigate the life that God has called us to unless we learn to listen to it well. When God speaks He creates, and when He creates He brings life. If we want to experience the life that God has for us, we must hear God’s voice. In Hebrews 12:25 it says, “See to it that you do not refuse Him who speaks.” Scripture gives us a compass to know what things God would and would not speak. But when we only trust our compass rather than God's compass, we hit the same obstacles repeatedly. God is trying to shake us free from things that are holding us down. But the things that God has given us will be unshakable. If we want God’s voice to shape our lives, we need to realize God is always speaking and His voice creates life. We as humans don't have a perception of time, we have a perception of change. If change is not a given, we often feel as though we’ve wasted our time. Jeremiah chapter 29:11 says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Pastor Erwin McManus reminds us that there is a difference between stepping into tomorrow and stepping into our future. God reminds us that with His love we not only receive hope but also a future. The future is where hope exists and everything in our present is committed to our future. We need to stand in this moment knowing we have a future. God has a plan for our future, not just for tomorrow.
A futureless tomorrow is filled with fear and doubt. When filled with faith, hope, and love we can step into the future. If we’re filled with fear, we don't have the material to step into our future. In the moments we’re filled with fear, we must see the markers that call us into our future. There will be moments in the future where we need to remember how good God is.

There are two different experiences within humanity: those who are ‘highborn’ and those who are ‘service class.’ One is born into privilege and one is not. The Scripture makes it clear that all of us have an inheritance that has been passed onto us. But most of us aren’t living as if we have received this legacy. This legacy invites everyone into promises that may only seem accessible to the ‘highborn.’
In Galatians 4:1-5 Paul address the reality that we can be the recipients of all the generosity God has given us. He tells us we’re all heirs. And as we mature we begin to step into our inheritance. We’re not all highborn, but when we enter a relationship with Jesus we’ve been invited into a full inheritance.
We must move toward maturity so we can handle the full inheritance God promises us. A relationship with God will transform us and that is an undeniable promise. But, we must step into this relationship ourselves. We are heirs, but we can choose to live like slaves; the choice is ours. We must allow God to give us full freedom so that we are able to receive our full inheritance.

In any season of life, it is easy to get lost in what we do not have. More than ever, we get to take hold of what God has given us for the sake of those around us. God is always at work and beauty surrounds us. Do we see it? As a tribe, we believe that we are never limited in our ability to bring hope, love, and faith. Instead of becoming paralyzed by what we have lost, we are choosing to be mobilized by what we've gained.
To create momentum as a community, we can use the vehicle of joy. I any situation, there is beauty and wonder to behold. People need to experience the presence of Jesus in us and we can express it through the joy we have in any circumstance. We need to walk so profoundly in the presence of God that wherever we are Jesus is present and undeniable.
Out of Zechariah 8, Pastor Erwin McManus reminds us that nothing can stop us from doing good in the world. We can live lives so profoundly impacted by God that we cannot help but create a rumor of God’s goodness everywhere we go. What if those around us asked to journey with us simply because God’s work in our lives was undeniable? This is the life God has called us to.

Pastor Erwin hosted a powerful conversation on how we can be a part of the solution to racial inequality with Chris Simmons and Gerald Davis. Chris and Gerald are pastors at Cornerstone Baptist Church, the Church Pastor Erwin founded previous to Mosaic. Chris Simmons started the conversation by emphasizing the importance of building strong foundations as a Church. When foundations are built well, the building goes up easily.
They discussed the practical ways Cornerstone Baptist Church has met the needs of their community over the years. Pastor Erwin shared that he saw how systemic racism caused those who needed the most help to have to work the hardest and pay the most for high-quality food, education, and housing.
Pastor Erwin explained that he would pray that God would give him the ability to speak at the Cornerstone Church and give high-quality teaching. He felt this was his role in contributing quality to an environment that was at times given the lowest quality of many things. Pastor Erwin explained that moving forward, people in power have to chose to diversify their leadership.

How do we sustain hope when everything seems uncertain? Gratitude. Why aren’t we cashing in on this attribute when gratitude is what frees our hearts. Peace comes as a ruler. Peace will rule our lives once we allow it to. Paul consistently reminds us how important it is to thank God in all we do. To be connected to God in a powerful way requires thanksgiving. In Colossians 3:15-17 Paul breaks it down for new believers, “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.” It’s important to remember that saying thank you sets our minds on a different ‘us.’ The Scriptures are there to tell us what we need to know, and more importantly: how we should live. Remember, if we don’t carry peace we cannot bring peace.

More than ever, we need wisdom to navigate this moment in history. As we look around at the landscape, we realize there is an urgent need for us to create a new world around us. It is time to be a part of building a world that is founded on wisdom. Based on Chapter 1 in the book of James, Pastor David Arcos unwraps how God views wisdom and how it relates to us. Wisdom is a gift God wants to give us freely. But, when we ask God for wisdom, we are able to receive it only when we truly desire it at any cost. We need to be willing to admit that we may be wrong and in need of correction in our perspective.
Wisdom always helps us communally. Wisdom is not just for us individually. God calls us to be smart and tactical for the sake of helping others. Wisdom is leaning into what God is thinking. At times, it may even flip out world upside down. As the Church, we have been called by God to create a new world. This world is meant to be diverse and multifaceted, and if there ever was a time we needed wisdom to create that new world, it is now.

It’s easy to look at God and wonder if he’s holding out on us. With so much going on we can feel overlooked. It’s important to remember that the power of faithfulness is in the day-to-day moments. The story of David is a great reminder, that we are all chosen by God, maybe just not right now in the way we want. You have been chosen by God to do a powerful thing, but you must be faithful with what you’ve been given now so that you can be trusted later. Out of 1 Samuel 17:17-19 Pastor Joe Smith tells us about the story of David. David was teaching us how faithfulness is an important aspect of who we become. He reminds us it’s not who you are when you get what you want, it’s who you are when you could be doing other things but you choose to do the hard things. God wants to teach us to serve but our heart posture must be right. We can elevate our roles by taking responsibility, not so we can think more highly of ourselves, but so we can serve others. God used David’s faithfulness to bring him to greatness. The thing that positions us most powerfully, is our commitment to faithfulness. Based on Acts 16, Pastor Joe Smith encourages us to live in the freedom that Jesus invited us into. And as God moves in our lives, we realize He is moving on behalf of everyone around us as well. As we worship with our lives, we realize we are building a story of hope for everyone around us.
Though this moment in history is difficult, Pastor Joe believes that we were made for this moment. As we chose to embrace the challenge of this moment, we realize there is an endless amount of purpose here. As people watch us respond, we can become a vantage point through which they can see who God is around us and in us. Though God has done everything to invite us into a life of freedom, it is our choice to step into it. God sets our freedom into motion, but it is our responsibility to embrace it. There is no area of our lives that God cannot set us free from. We are not stuck in our past. God has invited us into a beautiful future.

Kelly Rowland joined our Lead Pastor Erwin McManus for a conversation that offered such incredible insight. Pastor Erwin asked Kelly about her journey with her career and family, and how race and faith have impacted her story. Kelly empowered us to live a generous life and expect to see how God moves through our generosity. When they covered Kelly’s career, she emphasized the importance of truly loving your work. Our dreams are meant to bring us enjoyment, even when the journey seems difficult along the way. There is a grit that is required to step into the dreams God has given us, and hard work can take us places that talent never could. Pastor Erwin asked Kelly to share her passion for giving. She told a story of a time when she felt stuck. Her best friend encouraged her to give and be generous, and to see how God would provide. Kelly made bold decisions after that conversation and decided to be more and more generous. She saw how God showed up for her again and again when she surrendered through generosity. Kelly then shared a moment of feeling fear when she found out she was going to be having a son. But, she was reminded that God would give her what she needed to raise a black man in today’s society. She also encouraged single women to look for a husband who is kind, a good communicator, and clear on his faith. “It’s not about your desire for the outcome, it’s about your love for the process.” –Erwin McManus

We are in the middle of one of the most united moments in history, coming together to stand against injustice. We are declaring that racism has to end with us. This is a moment we have to choose to step into. Not only are we deciding to step in, but we have decided we will not leave this moment the same.
Out of Acts Chapter 3, Pastor Joe Smith reminds us that we have to change what we see. When stepping into a moment, we choose to lead with listening rather than airing our opinions. In our culture, we are leaning in to see things from a different perspective. We have what it takes to enter this moment. God has given us all we need to make an impact. When we stop focusing on what we lack, we are able to capture the transformative moments Jesus is inviting us into. There is good in us that God is trying to get out of us for the sake of those around us. As we embrace this historical moment where we declare that ‘Black lives matter’, we are becoming more human than ever before. We are connecting to one another’s pain in a brand new way. Jesus is inviting us into a moment where we are transformed and can never be the same. Let’s step into it together.

We find ourselves in the middle of a defining moment as not only a nation, but as humanity. In the wake of the tragic murder of George Floyd, and the social unrest, we may find ourselves filled with questions. We ask ‘Where is God in this suffering?’ and ‘What is our role in the middle of this?’ Pastor Erwin McManus refers to Ephesians 2, emphasizing that God created us to be one diverse and beautiful family. Mosaic was created with a love for diversity. Because God is creative, we were designed to enjoy his creativity in the way he made humanity. When we find ourselves in the middle of pain, it can be difficult to imagine that God is right in the middle of it with us. The truth is that God is using the pain to create a new humanity that comes together to celebrate and bring healing to one another. Everywhere that people are coming together for the good, God’s fingerprint is there.

These times can feel so uncertain and the impact of this invisible virus is keeping us separated in a way we’ve never been before. Now more than ever, it’s important to remember we can stay connected regardless of distance. We can even GROW in connection more than before-but it does take courage. Lisa and John shared lessons they learned through the years, as well as what they’re enjoying during this time in quarantine together. They gave key insights on building and sustaining a healthy marriage, how to fight fair, and how the lockdown during COVID-19 has affected their marriage for the better.
The conversation left us feeling inspired to serve those around us deeply, whether that is in a friendship or a romantic relationship.
