Show Notes:
On our Friday Debrief we recap the week, talk about the lessons learned and head into the weekend with a tactical advantage.
The common denominator in all your complaints is you.
Everything you complain about? It doesn’t exist without you there. You are the fuel. And the hard truth is, you don’t have to fuel things that don’t serve you. You don’t have to give away your energy. You are choosing this path.
Drama in the workplace? Arguments on social media? Panicked chyrons on cable news? Silly disputes with neighbors, colleagues, friends, or family? All of it. The common denominator is you. You are choosing to pour your precious energy into these things. You are fueling the fire. You are giving them your limited attention, your finite time.
Stop.
The average American spends an aggregate 15-23 years in front of a television.
Read that again.
American life expectancy is about 80 years. Subtract the first five years and the last five years when your free will is significantly reduced and you’re spending almost 1/3 of your conscious life staring at a box. Does that box enrich your life?
Imagine the problems in your life that could be solved by simply pouring less of your energy into that television? More time to read, to workout, to develop a skill, build a brand, spend with loved ones, travel.
More time to live.
In everything I do I am seeking to live with more responsibility. That means pouring my energy into things that give back, make me better or improve myself, my family, my community, and my life.
Does an argument on Facebook or hour of cable news serve me? Does it enrich my life? No? Then it serves no purpose and deserves none of my energy.
You have agency. You have responsibility. The common denominator for all your complaints is you. Stop pouring effort and energy into the things that cause you complaint and watch your complaints disappear.
Until Monday…Out of role!
