Seico Mart was started in Hokkaido in the 1970's and it's been doing well ever since. It even opened a store at Hokkaido University. While only one of us has been to Seico Mart I would highly recommend trying it if you ever get the chance.

In Japan using public transportation is super common. Trains are the main way people here get from point A to B. They are almost always on time, clean and usually very quiet. If you come to visit Japan you will most likely be using these to get around, and we don't think you'll be disappointed.

Japanese words that are made from English words to create a different meaning in Japan. These words are known as “wasei eigo” (和製英語, Japanese-made English). Foreigners have a hard time understanding these since the meaning of these words differ from what native speakers would understand. It can also be called ‘pseudo-English’

7-11 in the United States is not usually somewhere people make an effort to go to. If they come across it on a road trip they may stop by but no one goes out of there way to go to a 7-11. In Japan I would say that's a little different, people may just leave the house to go to a 7-11. Here in Japan they truly put the convenient in convenience stores.

Living in America has many benefits there is a variety of food, different cultures and some beautiful places to visit. But dental tends to be ridiculously expensive. Here in Japan it is relatively cheap compared to Back in the States. Being able to go to the dentist and knowing it won't break my wallet is a crazy wonderful feeling.
If you've ever been hurt in America you've probably thought twice about going to the doctors or hospital. It could have been the long waits, the uncaring doctors or maybe you couldn't or didn't want to pay the outrageous prices. Here in Japan it's a little different and in my opinion way better than back home.

Japan is a very clean place to live, and one reason could be because of their trash system. There are few few public trash cans around Japan, so people tend to throw their trash away at home or a コンビニ. Compared to American Japan has double the categories of garbage burnable, PET bottles and a bunch of others. Back in America we had 3 can and the pick up would come once a week. It's things like these that make it interesting and at times frustrating to live in Japan XD

Going as far back as the Heian Period (794-1185) rice balls have been a delicious snack enjoyed by everyone. They've been filled with all sorts of ingredients and have been made by hand and by machine. This cheap and tasty treat can be enjoyed all over Japan. The hardest part is choosing your favorite flavor.

The layout of grocery stores here are pretty similar to the ones back in the states. The only real differences are the products that they sell, and the fish song that plays near the seafood section 😆

Sushi is defiantly one of our top foods here in Japan. It's a dish that has been made for hundreds of years. When you have sushi prepared by someone who has worked on it for years you can tell, it's AMAZING. If flights weren't so expensive sushi alone would be a good enough reason to visit Japan.

Mochi is a sweet little treat that seems to be everywhere in Japan. It has a nice chewy texture and a big variety. Mochi is also a special treat for most Japanese holidays, and it's fun to make.

Growing up in the States we got used to how food tastes there. Pizza is savory and usually has nice crunchy crust, pasta with red sauce may have a little hint of sweetness burred in there and hamburgers come with a bun. But here in Japan some food is prepared differently, Pizza with unique toppings, sweet pasta, and hamburgers what are more ham than burger. It's been fun noticing the differences.

I remember when I was younger and would walk down the cereal isle looking for a cereal that looked good. There were so many choices I usually just went back to the best one Rice Krispies. But here in Japan breakfast is usually healthier than that. But I sure do miss Rice Krispies.

One of our favorite foods here in Japan. If you like pork broth or miso you can't go wrong with a nice hot bowl of ramen. We talk about what we think makes ramen real ramen, we also talk about instant ramen and the Cup of noodle museum. Defiantly one of the must have food when visiting Japan. I would recommend several shops so you can say you have a favorite place.

Driving in Japan is defiantly different than driving in The States. Somethings are better than others but either way the freedom of having a license and being able to drive is a very Big plus!
From differently flavored potato chips to whale liver, we've eaten a bunch of stuff we never thought we would eat living back in the states. The food on this episode range from yummy to almost a punishment. If you visit Japan we hope you'll try new food too.
