In May of 2013, citizens from Cleveland, Ohio, were shocked to learn that 3 women, Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight, were found alive after having disappeared for nearly 10 years. They would reveal the full extent of their torment in court, sharing that they had been kept as prisoners and repeatedly abused until their escape.

At the trial, their captor, Ariel Castro, would then be sentenced to life in prison, plus an additional 1,000 years.
