54: Educators Moving into Artificial Intelligence

Artificial Intelligence is all over the news and internet but what is and why should we care?

Artificial Intelligence is a branch of computer science that focuses on creating machines that are capable of "thinking" and learning. AI is used in many different applications to make work more efficient, increase accuracy, decrease risk, and provide better user experiences.

AI is beginning to revolutionize the education sector as well.

AI can help

  • identify individual student needs by analyzing their performance and providing personalized instruction.
  • provide insights into the most effective instructional strategies and measure student engagement and progress.
  • create a more equitable learning environment by customizing educational experiences to each student's needs. By having access to personalized instruction, students of all backgrounds will have a greater chance of success.
  • systems provide personalized instruction and feedback in real-time, helping students learn more effectively.

AI shouldn’t replace humans but be used as a tool to guide and support teachers in the classroom. AI can provide personalized instruction, but it can’t replace teachers' human connection with their students. AI should enhance learning experiences and create an environment that supports student success.

“This technology does not have to be seen as a threat, as the downfall of education, or take the teachers' job. If we see it as a tool, then you will be able to see how these advances can support education, and you’re everyday life.” Ep. 54Dr. Shenelle DuBose
