Do you have rigid standards for yourself in some areas of your life?

In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose speaks about perfectionism, how it can show up and impact our lives, and how to identify it and begin dismantling it.

Perfectionism can manifest in many ways and in this episode, Dr DuBose examines exactly how it works, how it interferes with being a high achiever and how to address it, highlighting in particular:

  • That there are levels of perfectionism and areas of our life where it shows up and others where it doesn’t
  • Common characteristics of perfectionism to help you identify if they apply to you
  • The difference between being a perfectionist and being a high achiever
  • The connection between perfectionism and low self-esteem
  • Learning to surrender, choose the simplest path and celebrate the process and not just the win

“When you focus only on the results, you see the goal and nothing else. You don’t see the people, you don’t see the growth, you don’t see the process, you don’t see how you’ve grown from one place to another, and you don’t get to enjoy any of the learning, of the growing, of the striving. And so, when you only focus on the result, you only celebrate if you get the result. So, seeing the goal and nothing else is not a great way to live your life and to measure your life by.”
