This is episode 2 of 8 in the Framework Series:

The second system in the framework to become the expert in your body is far more obvious and familiar to you. Fuel. However, I’ll preface with just because it is obvious and familiar does not mean that you have a healthy understanding of this system. Why would you? The information that is fed to you, to all of us, in the standard American diet (SAD) is founded on old science, enormous marketing and lobby efforts from the food industry, and cultural norms and beliefs.

Do you feel like you are constantly being told different facts and studies about what is or isn’t healthy to eat? Fat is bad, no some fat is good… Fructose is bad, wait, fructose is the natural sugar in fruit and I thought fruit was good… Drink milk for strong bones, no dairy causes cancer… You need to increase your protein to build muscle, eat more meat.

To add insult to injury you get drug into the dogma of certain diet programs and the vilification of their “non-approved foods”. It’s the all-or-nothing approach that gets results for the short term but isn’t sustainable so you rebound back with a vengeance, right back to SAD. I’m thinking of diet camps like Atkins, Vegan, Keto, Paleo, Raw, Carnivore, etc.

Yes, it is true that more and more is being understood about the nutrients of certain foods and therefore the benefit to the body. Yes, it is true that more and more is being understood about the way the body interacts with and uses the food you eat. So as I go into this system I ask that you empty your cup (remember lesson 5 from 8 Lessons Lupus Taught Me?) and be open to learning how it applies to YOU as you become the expert in YOUR body.

I ask for permission to remind you of things you may already know as well as things that may be new to you or challenge your beliefs. How do you know your beliefs? Look at what you are eating (or not eating) and you will get a glimpse of your beliefs about food.
