Ernest Shackleton was an explorer who shipped. The endurance has just been discovered in almost perfect condition for what is a wooden ship at the bottom of an icy See. For 100 years, the ship was lost. Is he attempted a trans Antarctic voyage after losing the race to reach the South Pole? It was mostly forgotten is a hero of the time as opposed to his rival, captain Robert Scott, who would go on to become here. We're representing adventure and fortitude in the face of overwhelming odds, so much so he would eventually just become known as Scott of the entire together. Although Shackleton celebrate is one of the most influential Britain's of all time, whose ability to lead under incredible conditions, Irish people like to certainly remind people that Ernest was actually born in Ireland. And when I say suddenly, I mean not suddenly it all. Today's Dear Keith isn't a letter, but an ad that was placed by Ernest Shackleton 100 years ago. Men wanted for hazardous journey, small wages, bitter cold, long months of complete darkness, constant danger, safe return, doubtful honour and recognition in case of success. Ernest Shackleton, Dear Ernest as attractive as this sounds. I have to admire your honesty. But I also have to admire the bravery of the man who set foot on that ship with, you know, when this was all they could expect, another man might have highlighted great fortune or honour, but you told it as it was going to be on. That may have been helpful when you found yourself marooned. Having lost your ship to the ice, your men were able to look atyou when know that you could be honest with them. However grave the circumstance, which may explain why the ship sank. But you and your men survived. We could only wish that there was more like you around today.
