If you sincerely make your best effort in raising your child and in interacting with him or her, then you can be confident that G-d is pleased with your efforts, and that is what really matters. Stories from the Torah about Kayin and Hevel (Cain and Abel), and about Yosef (Joseph) and his brothers, show that sincere effort is what matters, even more than the results of your effort!
