Financial institutions play a critical role in ensuring market integrity and protecting investors by monitoring trading activities. They do this by employing powerful algorithms and machine learning techniques designed to identify suspicious patterns and anomalies in trading data. Through trading surveillance teams, financial institutions can detect potential market abuse, insider trading, and other regulatory violations.

Enrico will help us understand the practices that model risk teams develop, and he will shed light on the regulatory landscape and discuss how technology continues to shape this ever-evolving field.

In this episode, our guest Joe Guerrero from the Foreign Exchange division at ION will be discussing the ISO 20022, a global messaging standard for financial transactions.

The ISO 20022 replaces the widely used ISO 15022 and addresses some of the current limitations by enabling a new messaging language and protocols for the exchange of electronic data between financial institutions, market infrastructures, and other parties involved in payments processing.

About Our Guest Joe Guerrero

Joe started his career as a software developer, but quickly moved into more of a business role working as an account manager in a small American FinTech company. From account management Joe moved into a Support Manager role, ultimately becoming a Project Manager.

He then transitioned to the client side, working for a bank, as a senior business analyst in the credit derivatives world. He eventually returned to his prior company, Wall Street Systems, as a product manager working mainly in FX and back office, but also implementing new regulations that ensured more transparency and controls in the financial services in response to the sub-prime mortgage crisis of 2008.

After Wall Street Systems was acquired by ION, he has been focused on both integrating legacy Wall Street systems and on new and re-engineered ION products.
