Modular content: How can Medical Affairs use it to produce a lot of content efficiently?
Why are Chief Digital Officers sometimes less focused on Medical Affairs?
Proactive vs reactive communication in Medical Affairs: What are the rules when it comes to digital channels?
Digital Competence and Medical Affairs: What’s the current status?
The difference between omnichannel and multichannel
How can Medical Affairs leverage omnichannel

To answer these questions, Bozidar is joined by Karen Batoosingh, VP of Medical Communications Strategy and Execution at Anthill Agency.

They cover:
[ 01:28 ] - Multichannel pushes out the same content on different channels, while omnichannel drives out content that initiates a dialogue with physicians and gathers insights along the way. Omnichannel content is not the same, and you create several touchpoints along a journey using various channels.

[ 03:15 ] - Using omnichannel strategies provides a seamless and extensive approach to engagement, facilitating multiple touchpoints for doctors to access information. By leveraging omnichannel tactics, medical affairs can expand their outreach, enhance the physician's experience, and gain valuable insights into clinician behavior, obstacles, and motivators.

[ 12:01 ] - Medical affairs should be digitally literate to understand how data analytics work, what data they can collect, the limitations and strengths of that data, and ensure that the company applies it.

[ 13:37 ] - Your omnichannel strategy should focus on creating a relevant and timely customized customer journey for the physician. So content remains the king, and its presentation should be mindful of the physician's context, including the timing and source of information. Additionally, it should cater to their interests to some extent.

[ 17:24 ] - Modular content allows you to construct what physicians need to see to answer their questions. That content can be created in advance, mixed, and matched to build a more customized conversation. You can also use chatbot functionality here.

  • The founding story of Indegene from five co-founders to 1,000+ employees and how the digital-first future in pharma started in 2007
  • Recent JP Morgan 2023 conference and 100+ launches coming over the next few years
  • What can pharma learn from the entertainment industry to engage HCPs in an omnichannel way (and go beyond reach and frequency)?
  • Should omnichannel transformation start with an amplifying rep or make rep one of the channels?

To answer these questions Bozidar is joined by Gaurav Kapoor, Executive Vice President of Indegene.

They cover:
[ 01:25 ] - Indegene began in the late 90s with five founders who wanted to reimagine the pharma industry using data, technology, and medical expertise. In 2007, they presented a digital-first approach to an industry that was traditionally rep-driven. For the next ten to fifteen years, the company aims to create a digital-first pharma full commercialization model from R&D to clinical to commercialization. * [ 10:32 ] - Many companies have not met their forecast in the first two or three years of their launches due to traditional models not being successful. To succeed, data, digital, and technology must be used differently to reach customers expecting on-demand experiences rather than prime-time experiences. Also, omnichannel infrastructure is necessary for successful launches to provide patients with the right treatment at the right time. * [ 17:44 ] - HCPs expect a personalized customer experience from pharma brands. Though we've seen an omnichannel activation in pharma, which has moved from a single channel to multiple channels, it has not matched the volume and velocity of content that customers expect. Industries like entertainment, e-commerce, and travel have already done that, and pharma can learn from them. * [ 23:55 ] -* Around sixty percent of doctors prefer not to use reps as their primary channel of communication, as they are a costly touchpoint and should only be utilized when they are likely to make an impact. Nevertheless, a group of doctors will always exist, regardless of whether they have a high, medium, or low digital affinity, who prefer reps as one of their top three channels of consumption. For those with high digital affinity, a purely digital approach may be suitable, while for those who prefer reps in their top three channels, a combination of reps and other channels can be employed.

  • The Cost of a sales rep visit in the US is $300-$400 - what is the digital equivalent of one rep visit?
  • What is the product adoption journey of HCPs nowadays and how can pharma companies respect it and achieve successful launches?
  • What tools in the omnichannel toolbox does pharma have nowadays, and how should they plan to use them before launch?
  • How to adjust sales rep planning in the digital-first launches? What is “Territory Warming”?

To answer these questions Bozidar is joined by Peter Marchesini, Senior Vice President at Indegene.

They cover:
[ 02:28 ] - Five years ago, sales reps were the sole means of delivering a brand's messaging to HCPs but were highly inefficient and expensive. Thanks to new technologies and digitization, they can provide your company's messaging more efficiently. * [ 07:56 ] - Customer segmentation starts by identifying like-minded physicians and digital affinity can be based on past interactions with them. If you segment your digitally savvy doctors, and the rest of them need to see reps because they're not interacting digitally, you've automatically cut that list down to an approachable number of physicians or HCPs that will interact with you. * [ 15:30 ] -* A sales rep visit in the US costs $300-$400. But the digital equivalent is much lower because you won't have $10 billion launches anymore. Furthermore, you can reach every target on day one of your launch. * [ 28:21 ] - Digital can help "warm the territory" at a level your customer can understand your product. The rep could answer questions in more detail and follow up with information that may reinforce that messaging less expensively.

  • What is Customer Experience (CX), and why are most pharma companies building CX teams?
  • Why is CX powerful when it comes to HCP behavior change?
  • What can pharma learn from Disney regarding content and use of data?

To answer these questions, Bozidar is joined by Mark Makuch, SVP of Strategy at Havas Health CX.They cover:
[ 04:31 ] - Customer experience is the sum of all the business touch points with your customer, including sales and marketing. Think of all those touch points from the ground up to make them work together effectively. * [ 05:38 ] - Pharma companies are looking to partner with agencies that understand CX holistically and create the best experience possible at that moment for the HCPs by solving problems they have or meeting their needs. * [ 12:45 ] - From an implementation standpoint regarding CX, most pharma companies are at the crawling stage, some brands are starting to walk well, and a few are running. Enhancing your CX game starts with being as relevant and meaningful as possible for your customer. * [ 17:53 ] - Data, CX, and omnichannel are interchangeable and live together to connect all touch points and experiences that pharma brands put in front of and engage their customers with to understand their needs and deliver relevant and personalized value. * [ 21:21 ] -* CX is nothing without data because it's the component that allows pharma brands to tap into the customer's needs and understand the experiences they are trying to create and the technology that will allow them to enable those meaningful, relevant, and personalized experiences.

  • What are the three critical components for value creation in the life cycle of a product?
  • What does value creation mean in pharma launches?
  • What is the difference between must-haves and innovative treatment value creators?
  • How do digital and agile methodologies help pharma organizations streamline and improve their go-to-market strategies?

To answer these questions, Bozidar is joined by Miriam Meeuwissen, Managing Director at Launch & Lifecycle Biopharma. They cover:
[ 03:23 ] - There are three critical components for value creation in the life cycle of a product. These are time perspective, global launch, and cross-functional value creation. * [ 07:12 ] - A true value creator is missed when it's taken away. If a pharma company launches a specific tool to help patients, and that tool disappears without being replaced by something better, then it is a true value creator. * [ 09:21 ] - Value creators split into two categories: must-have and innovative. Must-have value creators are necessary for payers to understand the product's value, while innovative ones differentiate the product from competitors. * [ 13:50 ]* - Agile and digital methodologies help pharma organizations to prioritize value creators over time and use digitalization to streamline resources and accelerate conversations.

  • Just how outdated are the FDA regulations?

  • Can pharma companies function on a completely remote work model?

  • How can you creatively market pharma products without breaking the rules?

To answer these questions Bozidar is joined by Dale Cooke, President of PhillyCooke Consulting, a company which focuses on ensuring that relevant stakeholders understand FDA regulatory requirements for the different categories of products (pharmaceuticals, biologics, vaccines, and medical devices), and how to apply those regulations to new and emerging technology channels.

They cover:👉 [01:47] The FDA regulations are particularly challenging, especially considering they were made in the 1960s. That being said, Dale admits that the regulations have to lag behind technology, as they don’t want them updating rules every week. It’s Dale’s job to guide stakeholders through those regulations, and how to apply them to new and emerging technology channels.

👉 [07:30] There will be times when you realize, late at night, that something you’ve written could have been interpreted in a completely different way from how it was meant to be understood. Dale explains that this is something he has experienced a few times in his work, but it can happen to anyone. In fact, people should experience it so that they know how to avoid it in the future.

👉 [09:34] In January of last year, pharma companies were claiming that they could never move to a remote working model, however within the next seventy-two hours, they did it just like that, revolutionizing the way people work and how they interact with each other. Dale believes that, although the situation isn’t as in flux as it was, we’re still figuring out what the new normal is.

👉 [14:12] Dale compares the creation and selling of FDA-approved products to writing a Haiku: you can be as creative as you like, but you need to stay within the parameters of a strict set of rules, otherwise, it won’t work.

  • Are digital health founders coming from the pharma industry, or are they newcomers?
  • What is the number one challenge that pharma faces when engaging with startups?
  • Can startups strike a seven-figure deal with pharma in seven months?

To answer these questions, Bozidar is joined by Naomi Fried, CEO and Founder of PharmStars. They cover:
[ 01:37 ] - Naomi started PharmStars to bridge the pharma-startup gap, thus bringing startups and pharma together in a constructive way so they can become partners, take advantage of the innovation, and work together * [ 04:12 ] - Some gaps between pharma and startups include large companies executing a proven business model, trying to prove a business model, getting to product-market fit, and differences between business models. Pharma and startups have different approaches to innovation and taking risks * [ 06:48 ] - There's a lot of opportunity for digital health solutions and innovations to support pharma. Digital solutions can bring more value to patients by offering a drug plus a digital solution, an app, a diagnostic, or a digital therapeutic to address side effects or enhance the impact of the drug. Digital health startups can also help pharma companies with the drug discovery and development process * [ 10:16 ] - Some of the greatest mistakes digital health startups make when engaging with pharma companies are not articulating their pharma value proposition and not understanding how pharma is organized and the pharma language * [ 19:16 ]* - When engaging with startups, some mistakes pharma companies make are not having clarity of purpose, appreciation for the speed with which startups need to move, and understanding the resource and staff limits startups have

  • How can pharma tap into patients' concerns when preparing a product launch?
  • How can pharma produce content that will engage patients?
  • How can the search listening methodology help pharma companies work more effectively with patient advocacy groups?

To answer these questions, Bozidar is joined by Julia Walsh, CEO of Brand Medicine International. They cover:
[ 01:45 ] - In the relationship between pharma and patients, there are certain limitations on what pharma can and cannot do. Pharma executives are talking about doing more educational content for patients. However, it doesn’t happen yet because of this regulatory framework that prohibits pharma from doing that. There is also a digital disconnect between patients and pharma. Patients are not permitted to be directly communicated to in many markets * [ 05:29 ] - Search listening is a way of analyzing the aggregated questions that are asked around a specific topic, and it is estimated about a billion health-related questions are asked in Google every day. So there is a big opportunity for pharma to approach patients with relevant and valuable content. The other part of search listening is listening to the long-form questions in the words that patients and healthcare professionals use, which is different from SEO * [ 10:11 ] - Even six months before your launch or earlier, your product will be in clinical trials. That is where understanding the digital landscape through search is a powerful way to map that collective consciousness around a specific disease and ultimately through to your treatment. * [ 15:23 ]* - Pharma brands compete with consumer-savvy influencers and YouTube stars. Taking that into account is significant. Companies try to do the right thing by rigorously producing fully-balanced content. But if it does not consider science and is not accessible and relatable to the audience, then nobody will see it. So this is an opportunity to collaborate with those influencers.

  • How long should videos be to drive HCP behavior change?
  • Why don't peer-to-peer videos need to be high-production and costly?
  • Owned HCP audience versus rented HCP audience - how can pharma benefit from both?

To answer these questions and many more, Bozidar is joined by Chris Savage, Co-founder, and CEO of Wistia. They cover:
[ 01:18 ] - If you are a big company that spends a lot of money on video, you can keep doing that. But if you're only thinking about top-down, highly-produced videos, you might miss some great opportunities. A video should connect with your customer, so empower the people on your teams to be making content themselves. * [ 03:08 ] - Producing high-quality, engaging video content doesn't require a lot of money. If your budgets are tight, remote recording is a good option. When it comes to pharma, leave the HCPs to focus on what they have to say and bring in a person who can focus on the production side. * [ 10:03 ] - If you’re using video for business, marketing purposes, and conversions, the shorter the video is, the higher engagement it will get. If people have no connection to your brand, then shorter is better. If they have a deep connection, you can go with longer video content. * [ 14:09 ] - Video plus sales reps work better than sales reps alone, and companies like HubSpot and Starbucks figured that out early. The reason behind this is that people choose brands to engage with that educate the consumer, make it easy to understand, and have the confidence and expertise to explain various things across all parts of their funnel. * [ 17:07 ]* - Regarding video contentfor pharma, think about your owned and rented audience. The owned audience is people deeper in your funnel, your website, content hub, or microsite. The rented audience is on all the social platforms, which you should use to get people's attention. To do that, you need to build audiences in those different places, and then bring them in with a strategy that works on both. Make engaging content that lives in those places and build a strong connection to your brand or a concrete reason why they should come back to you to learn more and go deeper in the funnel.
