Mike Fanning, 18, and his buddies, decide to go chill out on the oldest of the main islands of the Hawaiian archipelago, Kauai. While his friends are sunbathing, lying on the beach, Mike gets in the water. He puts his belly on the board, paddles while looking forward not to lose power. An experienced surfer, Mike likes to go offshore where the water is much more fun. He catches the first wave before it breaks. And let's go! The teenager is having a blast! Then the unthinkable happens! A tiger shark, a very dangerous species for humans, about 12 feet long and weighing 1000 pounds, attacks him. It clings to his right leg and shakes it before tearing it off. Following his instinct, the teenager hits the animal on the nose with his fists until it moves away.
