After Jesus' ascension his disciples spent ten days engaged in crucial activities as they awaited the coming of the Spirit. It was incumbent that a twelfth witness to Jesus' ministry and resurrection be added to the eleven. The scriptures, prayer, and the sovereign guidance of the Spirit led to the selection of Matthias. Thus the apostolic foundation was complete - ready to receive the Spirit and move out as witnesses to the ends of the earth.
