Yahweh God used the prophet Nathan to tell King David that his throne would endure forever by the future placement of one of his descendants as the Ruler of the kingdom of God. In response to this revelation David went immediately into the presence of God in prayer. His responsive prayer teaches us much as to how to approach God in prayer. Christian prayer is, among other things, participation with God in his action in the world for his own glory and purposes.
