It’s hard to miss people. It’s hard to grieve. But, in my opinion, missing someone is not a good enough reason to let someone back into your life.

This is especially true if the person has repeatedly hurt you or violated your boundaries.

In this episode, I discuss three things you should ask yourself before you give someone another chance. I know it is tempting to rush into the arms of someone you love, but ignoring their past behavior won’t make the future any better.

I want to stress the importance of self compassion in this process as well. We are not machines, it is okay to miss and love people who have not treated us well. Even if it makes no sense logically, sometimes you are going to wish things were different between you and the person who hurt you because, guess what, love isn’t rational. Whether this person was a relative, partner, or close friend, one of the hardest things you can do is walk away from someone who isn’t good for you.

What’s even harder is to maintain that distance when they are coming to you asking for a second chance. Before you allow them back in, get really honest with yourself about the questions I’ve posed in this episode.
