This podcast by Fiona Gruber explores the making of Ngurruwarra/Derndernyin, a 20-metre-long by 2-metre-wide canvas painting by ten Kaiadilt, Lardil, and Gangalidda artists celebrating culture, story, and relationships across the seas, lands, and skies of the Traditional Owner communities throughout the Wellesley Islands region.
Each artist painted multiple sections of the canvas, negotiating with each other to ensure continuity of story across contiguous elements of the canvas.
The artwork is a CABAH Art Series commission created in association with Mirndiyan Gununa Aboriginal Corporation, Mornington Island Art (MIArt).
