Today we wrap up our discussion of our March book, Thomas Hardy's Tess of the D'Urbervilles. We loved rediscovering this classic text and spent two full episodes diving in. The themes in this novel still resonate today and Hardy was ahead of the curve in his understanding of the plight of women. We also announce our April book which we are so excited about -- it is a big departure from Tess! And of course, our usual banter and life updates - join us!

Today Sophie and I begin discussing our February and March book, Tess of the D'Urberville's by Thomas Hardy. This was a re-read for both of us and we were surprised at how relevant it still felt -- some themes will always resonate. There are no end of novel spoilers here - we only talked about the first 3 phases (about half the book) and will finish up at the end of March.

We were absolutely thrilled to welcome Joanna Biggs, the author of our January book, A Life of One's Own: Nine Women Writers Begin Again. Sophie and I connected with this special book on so many levels and to have the opportunity to talk with Joanna brought our reading full circle.
Joanna shares her inspiration for this project, why she chose the authors she featured, and her hopes for how this work might inspire other women. We also heard how the cover art was chosen and it was such a poignant part of our discussion!

We had a lot to talk about today. Given the horrific events unfolding in Israel, it’s hard to know what to say. Sophie and I talked it through and she discussed how the terrorism is affecting life in the city.
Wiggins has now been in NYC for one month! Hear the highs and lows of puppyhood and apartment life, and why we both won't be choosing singing as a career...this will make sense at the end of the episode!

Best memory: Finding the perfect reading spot in Central Park - now that Eli works Saturdays when the weather is nice out I got into a rhythm of going to the park with my book. Using the park as my backyard has been such a nice way to relax and unwind.
Best meal: Contramar in Mexico City
Best day: Eli’s gallery opening with everyone in attendance!
Best trip: Mexico City
- Mini trips: Summer weekends in Saratoga (blueberry picking, long warm days, evenings on the porch)

- To be more involved in women’s rights organizations rather than just donating - either volunteering or attending events
