Tailor Birds, electric violinist, dream folk artist, storyteller, connector of plants, writes music and tries to connect her people to hopes and dreams. Her work with the plants and her 5 string electric always develops and blends worlds together, creating unknown possibilities ones she doesn’t even expect. Currently finishing the new Tailor Birds album, she also works with plants and is currently connecting the sounds of the Babinda Boulders to include in her ongoing exploration as a creator and lover of wondrous spaces.

Tailor Birds, is the creation of electric violinist, Sophie Kinston. Her music is created from the core sounds of the electric violin, bringing in foley art, live looping artistry, she also brings in guest musicians from around the globe. Leaning in towards storytelling, this is music for the soul, and music to unite, music for people looking for something that little bit different. Sounds that could be described almost as dream folk music, Sophie over these past years, has connected electrodes to the plants, turning the electrical currents into musical notes, via the use of the Plant Wave by the folks at Data Garden, and these create the backdrop of sounds to her music, slowing both herself down, but also those who hear the music, giving them a chance to breathe, and a moment in time. With a mission to come up to the Babinda boulders and various other areas in far north Queensland, to record the electrical currents of the trees, the forest, this gorgeous space, this has been part of one final tour through Australia, before Sophie heads to Ireland for some time. This doesn’t mean she’s never returning of course!!
With various gigs, markets, and sound immersion events, the Babinda boulders is among a few special spaces that is part of Sophie’s work towards documenting her plant music journey, for her various online channels, but also for her own musical development. Over a couple days, Sophie has been heading through the various areas in the Babinda Boulders area, connecting the plants to the electrodes, learning about the different sounds omitted from the plants, and what she found was intriguing. Everyone who walked past Sophie recording these sounds, heard the music, and was inquisitive. The notes that were omitted, were also quite diverse and not what she expected. This podcast and all that is associated with that, is a discussion of this work, delving a little deeper into the world that is Sophie / Tailor Birds, storyteller, travelling musician, and a lover of wonder.
