Let´s talk about privilege...
When investing in early stage startups you invest in the founders. You are probably looking for someone that is super passionate about the problem they are solving. Someone that will put aside everything else and invest all their time and energy in the company. Someone that will take a financial risk and be without salary for a couple of years and someone with a big network that can find the initial investment from friends and family.
🧐And then you are wondering why there is no diversity in your deal flow? and why there is so few women?
That is because you are looking for a young white man without any commitments or responsibility and with wealthy parents. You are looking for privilege.
So please stop mistaking privilege for passion when you speak to founders ✋🏼and lets change the stereotype picture of an entrepreneur.
Entrepreneurs comes in all shapes and sizes and with different backgrounds and they can all be "passionate founders" even though they have kids or need a small salary to pay their bills.
