Alan Roberson
Alan Roberson is the Executive Director of the Association of State Drinking Water
Administrators (ASDWA). ASDWA’s members (the state drinking water agencies)
are co-regulators with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). He has over 32
years of experience in Washington, D.C. on the development of drinking water
policy, and federal drinking water regulations on water quality, and security and
preparedness issues.
He provides technical and policy input on all aspects of the drinking water regulations, as well as working with Congressional staff on potential amendments to the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). He works closely with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on ensuring the safety and reliability of water systems. He has developed both an understanding and an appreciation of the varied perspectives of the federal government, the state primacy agencies, and the water systems, and how to blend those perspectives so that the goal of public health protection is maintained.
He has a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from Georgia Tech and a Master of Science of Civil Engineering from Virgina Tech. He is a registered Professional Engineer in Virginia. He has served on the Board of Fairfax Water for over 14 years, and currently serves as Treasurer and as Chairs of both the Finance and Audit Committee and the Water Quality and Supply Committee.
