This week on The bRight Side of 50 with Carla Palmer, I'm highlighting the magic that happens when women get together and support each other.
The importance and POWER of women supporting women cannot be overstated. When women uplift each other, we create a powerful network of encouragement, mentorship, and collaboration that fosters personal and professional growth. This solidarity helps break down barriers and pave the way for HUGE success and even more opportunities for future generations to thrive. By championing each other’s successes and standing united in the face of adversity, women can collectively lift each other up and MOVE MOUNTAINS!

In today's episode of The bRight Side of 50 with Carla Palmer, we're diving into a topic that's often overlooked but holds immense potential: the value of being a guest on a low-following podcast.
There's a hidden gem in smaller podcasts that often goes unnoticed. These shows might have lower numbers, but they offer unique opportunities and unexpected benefits.
It's easy to fall into the trap of judging a podcast solely by its following. High numbers can be impressive, but they don't always reflect the depth of engagement or the impact of an episode. Conversely, smaller podcasts often have highly dedicated listeners who are deeply invested in the content. So, invested they might end up making an INVESTMENT! The investment could be with the host or with a guest. Either way, there is a lesson to be learned--check out today's episode and get the full scope of what I'm trying to convey!

This week I'm sharing how two women's stamp of approval helped me gain access and entrance to women and places I only could have dreamed of.
Women of influence play a crucial role in uplifting other women who are doing impactful work. Their stamp of approval not only validates and recognizes the achievements of these women but also opens doors to opportunities, resources, and networks that can further amplify their efforts. This support creates a ripple effect, inspiring confidence in other women and encouraging them to strive for excellence. Additionally, when women in positions of power and influence endorse and promote each other, it challenges stereotypes and biases, fostering a more inclusive and equitable society where everyone's contributions are valued and celebrated.

This week on The bRight Side of 50 with Carla Palmer, we're chatting with Dr. Terré, The Money Maximizer on the topic of Choosing Divorce and Joy in Midlife.
It's a common response: "Oh, I'm so sorry to hear that," when women share they're getting a divorce. Yet, as sad as the news may be, it doesn't have to mark the end of the world for women. In this enlightening conversation with Dr. Terre, we get a different narrative. While the decision to divorce wasn't easy, she offers important insights she gained from reflecting on her journey - from the start of her relationship with her ex-husband to their year and a half of marriage, and the pivotal moment that signaled it was time to say goodbye.
This episode isn't just about Dr. Terre's story; there are valuable lessons here for all of us. We get into the importance of self-awareness and authenticity in relationships - are we truly aligned with who we are at our core? We explore the concept of submission in marriage and the barriers women often face in embracing it. Additionally, we learn the significance of acknowledging and understanding our partner's relationships with others (i.e. their mothers, grandmothers and siblings).
Hindsight, as they say, is often 20/20. By listening and learning from those who've navigated paths similar to ours, we increase our chances of success when we reach our desired destinations (e.i. marriage). Whether you're a woman in your 40s or a a woman over 50, this episode is for you! Tune in to gain wisdom and perspectives that can reshape how we approach relationships and life's transitions.

I don't care how you feel about single moms and how/why they're in the situation they're in; raising their children on their own--THEY NEED HELP!
This episode hits home for me because I WAS that single mom who needed help while I was doing all that I could to get out of the rut I'd found myself in. I wasn't lazy, I wasn't irresponsible, I wasn't looking for a handout, I was simply trying to pull myself up. I needed a little support along the way, until I could fly on my own. Without caring, generous people in my life along the way, I wouldn't be where I am today. I'm better in my 50, in midlife, because people cared about me. They wanted to see me on the other side of where I was.
With skyrocketing inflation and the rate of pay not increasing along with it, it is extremely difficult for a single mom to thrive. There are single moms all around us who WANT better for themselves and their children. They are TRYING! They are showing up for work, working on building their professional skills, and doing what they can with the time and energy they have to rise above the poverty line. But while they're doing all of this, they could use a little (or a LOT) of support.
Tap in and listen to some ways in which you can support a deserving single mom today. And please let me know your thoughts after you've listened. I can't wait to hear from you!

Navigating the world of dating in midlife, and especially after 50, can come with its own set of challenges, but it's essential to remember that being single at this stage of life is perfectly okay, regardless of societal pressures. Embracing solitude can offer a unique opportunity for personal growth, self-discovery, and newfound independence. Rather than succumbing to societal norms or external expectations, it's empowering to prioritize your own happiness and fulfillment. Whether pursuing new relationships or enjoying the freedom of singlehood, the journey is about honoring your authentic self and embracing the beauty of the present moment.
Tap in as I share my dating experiences, as a GenX woman over 50, over the past decade and why I'm content with being single at the moment.

For women over 50 or in midlife, challenging ourselves is important for many reasons:
Personal Growth: Midlife is a time of transition and reflection, and pushing ourselves outside of our comfort zone can lead to new insights, skills, and experiences.
Career Advancement: Many of us in midlife, especially those of us over 50, may be at a point in our careers where we are seeking new opportunities or looking to advance professionally. Challenging ourselves can help us acquire new skills, take on leadership roles, and pursue our career goals.
Mental and Emotional Well-being: Challenging ourselves can boost confidence, self-esteem, and resilience, which are important for maintaining mental and emotional well-being during midlife. It can also provide a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
Overcoming Stereotypes and Expectations: Women in midlife may face stereotypes and societal expectations about aging and limitations. Challenging ourselves can help break through these barriers and rid stereotypes, showing that women can continue to learn, grow, and achieve at any age.
Setting an Example: By challenging ourselves in midlife, we can inspire others, including younger generations, to pursue their goals and dreams with determination and resilience. We can serve as, much needed, role models for lifelong learning and personal development.
This episode was inspired by one of my favorite podcasters, Dan Koe. He is known for his quote, "Do hard things until they become easy." This quote emphasizes the importance of perseverance and pushing oneself beyond comfort zones in order to grow and achieve success. It suggests that by tackling challenging tasks consistently, individuals can develop their skills and confidence over time, ultimately making those difficult tasks seem more manageable.

As we get older, sometimes it's hard to make new friends. That's why it's important to be in the right environments. Moving with intention and building relationships with ambitious and driven women can be particularly important for midlife women, especially those of us over 50. It provides a source of mutual empowerment. Sharing experiences, challenges, and successes can create a supportive environment that fosters personal and professional growth. It can also help build community and strong support system: whether it's for career advice, personal challenges, or celebrating achievements, a strong network provides a sense of community.

Smiling through the tears...how often do we do find ourselves smiling after a sob fest? Smiling when we want to go into a corner and cry? Smiling when the pain is so unbearable we're not sure if we're going to make it? At some point in our lives we have all been in this place. And it's okay. It's a part of life! Whether you're a woman over 50 or in midlife in general, most know what it's like to be in a place where we have to put on a smile and push through it.
Our guest today, Sherrika Hunt-Ross: Author, Philanthropist, Entrepreneur, and Host--shares her story and journey of smiling through the tears. In this episode we talk about grief and loss, love and marriage, mother son relationships and caring for aging parents. It's a segment full of raw truths that need to be disgusted. Our hope is that you'll listen and walk away knowing you are not alone on your journey. There are other women out here going through some of the same things you're experiencing. We have to stop with the silly lists about where we won’t go on a first date! Sis, we are single in midlife / 50 plus / GenXers. Either we need to stop listening to these young women and their ridiculous posts or we need to stop creating them ourselves. For me, there is nothing wrong with a Cheesecake Factory first date or even a simple tea/coffee first date. But it's so much deeper than the "where" he's taking us? You got 3 minutes? Listen Up! One thing I can say about being on this earth nearly 52 years is that my story is colorful! Colorful with a lot of beautiful hues but also darker shades of black and brown.
About 12 episodes back, I shared a story about my senior prom and why I went to prom with my older brother. It's pretty good, you should check it out! At the end of that story, I talked about how I ended up in Los Angeles. I didn't go too far into detail about my experience working at California Federal Bank and the terrifying robberies I experienced as a teller, but I promised to come back and share more...well, here is the rest of the story. #truecrime

Ozempic might not be all it’s cracked up to be! Ladies in midlife, GenX women, my 50 + honey bunches….is this worth it? I think we need to really talk about this!
Listen, Ozempic is primarily approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes, and any use for weight loss would be considered off-label. It's crucial for us women or anyone considering Ozempic for weight loss to consult with a healthcare professional before making such a decision. Off-label often lacks the rigorous testing and monitoring associated with approved indications. Side effects and long-term effects when used for weight loss might not be well understood. Furthermore, medications designed for specific conditions may have varying effects on different people, and the risks and benefits should be thoroughly assessed based on an individual's health profile. We have to prioritize informed decision-making in consultation with a healthcare provider to ensure the safety and appropriateness of any medication use, especially for purposes beyond its FDA-approved indications. Always ask yourself, it is really WORTH THE RISK?

Welcome back, sis, to another heartfelt GYSBtalks episode. Today's episode is titled "No More All About Me Friends."
Time is a precious commodity, isn't it? When we choose to spend it with someone, it's a testament to how much we value and care for that person. But what happens when those encounters leave us feeling drained and unloved, when it becomes a one-sided exchange? It's disheartening when a friendship turns into a convenience for one person and a draining experience for the other.
As a woman in midlife, I've experienced the ebb and flow of friendships throughout my life. And I'm happy to share that most of my adult friendships have stood the test of time; solid pillars of support. Probably because I've been selective about who I allow into the intimate circle of my life. But there are a couple with whom I haven't much more time to give.
So, I'm asking you, sis, have you experienced this too? How did it make you feel? And what did you decide to do about it? Would you agree that true friendships are built on mutual support, love, and understanding?
I believe this is an essential topic to discuss openly, which is why I wanted to share it with all of you today. Understanding our worth and learning to choose authentic connections is crucial for our happiness and growth.
If you've been through this journey or are currently experiencing it, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Please share your perspectives with me in the Q&A section below, on IG @gysbmovement or through email gysbmovement@gmail.com. Let's discuss the beauty and challenges of friendships.
