Times of refreshing are spiritual experiences that makes you fresh, including times of personal devotion, times with the body of Christ, and times of revival events.
These experiences are a benefit of salvation and help anticipate times of restoration when Jesus returns. These times take us back to where we need to be in our walk with God and realign our priorities.
Retreats are essential in seeking these times, preparing you to win in the world you are in, and staying on track spiritually through prayer.
The gospel is everything. It is so simple that a child can understand it yet so profound that you will spend a lifetime exploring and experiencing its fullness. This same gospel, the gospel in every generation and time is still relevant. The outcome of the gospel message is a burning heart. The effect of a conversion experience is a burning heart.A heart check is necessary if your heart is no longer burning the same way it was when you got saved because that’s a sign of a bigger problem.Your heart must burn for the things of God. Spending time in the presence of God can bring back that fire.
Things in life will not always happen the way you want them to because we live in a world full of evil, trials, and tribulations.
David said, “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil. For You are with me”. So even if these hard times come, be resolute in your belief that God remains good, He is with you in the pain, and God can repurpose your pain to glorify Himself in your life.
Having these in mind, be ever ready to face these evils as they come.
The most profound key in understanding the Bible is summarized thus‘ The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed and the New Testament is the Old Testament revealed.'In this teaching, we are taught the Providential nature of God. ‘JIREH' means the Providential God. Abraham decided to believe God showing ‘Simple Faith' (Heb 11:17). That if God has declared a thing, no matter what happens He is Providential!Even in the hardest of times, your conviction has to affect your conclusion. God is good, has always been good, and He will forever be good.
If God is good, should we trust for healing or not? How do we trust for a healing? How do we receive a healing?Do we have the authority to lay hands on the sick today or should we just accept that God is sovereign and He heals whoever he wants to heal?
In the face of pain and suffering, the question of where God is in our pain often arises. People often use evil as a factor to cancel out the existence of God. Through scriptures, we see God has dealt with the root cause, sin so the response we give in these situations matters knowing that God is there with us in our pain. In this teaching, we learn more about how to respond in such situations.
When considering the principles of the Bible you have to consider the whole Bible, revelation is progressive in nature, how we perceive Gods character must be throughout scripture the Bible says in him there is no variation and he doesn’t change.
The Bible is one book and it should therefore be read as a whole. The same way we consider any topic in the Bible is the same way we must do so for the character of God- study it from the Old Testament down to the New Testament.
The teaching answers questions on the problem of evil and the nature of God from theological, logical, philosophical, and emotional standpoints.
This teaching lays the bricks on how to deal with tough situations and questions in the world.
We are taught how to perceive God as good, loving, merciful, and just in this world of evil. He is and will always be good as He is the Father of lights.
In this teaching, we see two ways God has revealed himself;
General revelation
Special revelation
The fact that there are many extremes on tongues does not make it fake
The exception does not make the point.
In fact, the burden of proof should not be on us who believe in tongues, rather it should be on anyone who speaks against it because there is no Biblical indication that tongues have stopped.
God said we are helped by the holy ghost, God has a track record of turning little men into big men, God wants to help you by his spirit he wants you to see that, God wants to help you in prayer and you can be helped by God.
Through scriptures, we see there is an infinite river we have as believers we can draw potential from, if we don't draw from it, it'll remain dormant.
In this teaching we were taught how to make good use of the infinite river in us.
If you are unfaithful in the little things God has asked you to do and you are sluggish about it, He will not give you bigger things to handle. You must be dead to your fleshly pleasures to be able to build the capacity to sustain what you are asking for. This happens in the place of prayer.
In this teaching, we are reminded of the necessity of prayer and how to make our prayers effective. The major marks of fervor- posture, focus, tone and consistency, will follow when the state of your heart is right.
When the Holy Spirit came to live in you, you became God’s temple
The temple in the Old Testament was a shadow of YOU
Therefore, you can learn a lot about yourself by looking at what God did in the Old Testament temples
If it was instructed that fire be burning in the Old Testament temples then it must be your reality that fire is always burning in you.
At salvation, the moment the Holy Spirit came to live in us, we became his temple. We became a house of prayer. Prayer should be a constant activity in our lives. The bedrock of sustenance is consistency.
Being a house of prayer requires discipline and consistency. As much as it's our life, there's a walk of consistency you must do to call out who you really are, which is a house of prayer.
Prayer is an activity carried out in reverence and consistency by man which involves verbalizing his desires, petitions and requests unto God.
God’s plan for every believer is that he grows and prayer is one of those things every believer needs to be taught in order to get it right.
This teaching answers some frequently asked questions on the concept of prayer.
The Bible instructs us to pray without ceasing. Prayer to a believer is like oxygen to man. It keeps us alive spiritually.
The Apostle Paul would not have given that instruction if he didn't believe prayer to be an effective part of your spiritual well-being because whatever you have to do non-stop has to sustain you. Therefore, we must pray always, in-season, out of season and without ceasing.
The one subject one can't claim to have mastery on is eternity. As believers, we have the assurance of eternity because we have a risen saviour. It's only someone who has died and rose again that has the right to tell us what happens after death.
This teaching answers the following
Is there really life after death?
Do we really have hope of continuing our existence after we drop this body?
If there is such a life, how do we know?
False doctrine has been rampant since Bible times. We must be careful not to be deceived by false prophets.
This is why we must know what the Bible says and take heed to who teaches what, and what kind of doctrine they teach.
We must also not entertain any form of mockery or insults against the Christian faith.
Following a spiritual father is a big part of growth in discipleship. A spiritual father is one whom God has given to someone for their spiritual well-being. Scriptures give us solid backing for this sort of relationship. We see examples with Paul and Timothy, and Elijah and Elisha. Through observation, following instructions, and learning to stay, you will grow.
Ministry gifts are vital for church development, and this is God's strategy for building and equipping men. In order to be mentored by a spiritual father, service within the church is essential because this fosters discipleship and character building. Elisha showed great tenacity to learn, observe and be in close proximity with his spiritual father (Elijah) which only a follower would possess. By observing your ministry gifts closely and seeing what is possible in their lives, you can see all that is possible in your life as well.
Our idea on discipleship should be from the scriptures, you need to put aside your own idea and accept scriptures, The church of Christ must be a church of disciples, Your walk with Christ is an instruction, A lot of people are saved but not discipled, you need to be discipled.
To be a student of the Word, it is important to prioritize going to church to be taught the things of God. Honor and take seriously, the structures that have been set for you in the church. The structures are put in place to aid your spiritual growth. This is the way to be a disciple.
Jesus set a structure for how the church and the gospel would continue to move forward in His absence. This was His final instruction before His ascension. He gave them a template of what He had done with them to do with others. He said, “Go into the world and make disciples…” As such, the church of Christ is not meant to be a mere assembly of members but a community of devoted disciples.
The Spirit of God brings order into the lives of his children who align themselves to the vision of God- preaching the gospel to all men. God is willing and able to bring order into every area of your life including your health, your finances, your academics, your business, and your family. Align yourself to his will, and you will experience his order. This teaching on order by the Spirit sheds more light on this.
A lot of people get saved without being taught in church. You must be taught and be ready to listen to instructions. A man is saved by faith in his heart that by the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, you are saved.
Effectiveness in understanding and living the Word of God requires retaining in your consciousness all you have learnt. To grow in the things of God, you must set adequate structures to keep you in check. Neglecting these structures would lead to inconsistency. A decline in your faith is not sudden, but rather a summation of failed structures. It is therefore important to prioritize the things of God.
The Bible works together, you don’t judge scriptures by your feelings, The scripture is correct no matter how you feel, from scriptures we see that the law was not cancelled but fulfilled, The law was never to make man righteous.
The law was not meant to make us righteous it, revealed God's righteousness. e know God's standard from the words he gave in the law. The law was to show our inability to meet God's standard.
Join us a we uncover what the law really means
There is a position that men need to take in God to be the person God originally designed him to be. For this to happen, he must recognize that God has placed in him everything he needs to fulfil destiny. There is a generation awaiting the manifestation of men who understand and perform their roles as fathers, husbands, leaders, and priests.
Men must take heed not to be used as instruments in the hands of money, sex, and career. They must be the ones who control these things in the appropriate ways. From one man, families are formed. It is from the family unit that communities, nations, continents, and the world at large exist. This is why it is important to get the constitution of a family right.
Before the Mosaic Laws, a law already existed. That law was the instruction God gave Adam in the Garden of Eden because where there is no law, there is no sin. Disobedience of this first law then brought sin into the world.
To understand the nature of the new man in Christ, we must first understand the nature of the old man. This will help us appreciate the gift of salvation better.
There is an approach to studying the Bible. The Old Testament is the New Testament concealed and the New Testament is the Old revealed. This means that to properly understand doctrines and concepts, we must understand their origin in the Old Testament and their revelation in the new; this includes the new creation.
Scriptures instruct us to go into the world and preach the gospel to the whole world, there’s no part of scripture that excuses you from going out to teach and in the society we live in, the truth is being suppressed and people rebel against God, There’s a world out there that has defined things differently and we have to step in.
Join us as we discuss about a worldview called Pantheism
God is a great example of evangelism because He did not only instruct believers to do so, He led the charge through the life of Christ who came to die for the sins of the world.
Our duty therefore as believers is to respond in obedience to the mandate of reconciling men to God. We must evangelize with a competitive mindset, knowing that our adversary- the devil is also competing for souls. We must also be as wise as serpents and as gentle as doves while at it.
We've received graces and gifts but it won't matter the grace on your life if you don't put it to use. Irrespective of the grace on your life, there's still a place for labour so it won't be in vain.
In this sermon, we looked at the opposition to bravery and how to handle these oppositions.
To see what the early church saw, we have to do what they did. The boldness we see them move with in the early church should also be seen in our days.
As a man of the Spirit, you have to be brave with all God has asked you to do!
God is holy, separate and like no other person. He is in a class of His own. Man can only measure up to this standard of God only if God himself makes man holy. And God does this by putting His Spirit in the believer. This is what makes the believer separate, holy and consecrated for God’s use.
There are two extremes in the body of Christ:
(I) The first focuses on the efforts of the believer
(ii) The second extreme neglects the response of a believer to the lavish grace we've received.
Both extremes are wrong as one doesn't go without the other. The Bible emphasizes both kinds of Holiness.
The First holiness is the holiness as a result of a choosing which is imputed into us and made us at right standing with him. It is therefore a gift we received.
The second holiness is the moral holiness which should show in our lives because of God's standard of holiness that has been imputed in us.
The second holiness is a response to the first holiness so they go together.
God wants to teach us how to partner with him through the spirit God wants to teach us to be more conscious of the Spirit.
There is a way of life of a man of The Spirit. There are certain things and nuances that should be evident in the life of a man of The Spirit.
God wants to transform and morph you, He wants to change you from the man you were to a man of the Spirit.
A new year does not necessarily mean a new you if you have not done anything about it. To ensure that the prophesies spoken over your life come to pass this year, it is important that you plan.
Nothing happens by chance. Set measurable targets for your growth. Plan and allow the Lord to direct your steps.
We learn more about this in this teaching.
We serve a God that leads by prophecy and this is our advantage. We can have things spoken to us and have it happen in the new year. As long as God can say it, he will do it.
Vantage is anything that puts u in a better position when entering the new year. When we enter the new year with vantage everything changes. Our advantage in 2024 is that our perspective has changed. Irrespective of the situation, our vantage is that we serve a God who backs up his word
This sermon teaches us about partnership with the Holy Ghost and the power of God that we can walk in as believers.
The Holy Ghost partners with us for ministry, zeal, wisdom, direction, and power.
Power is a redemptive commodity, it bears witness with the function of Christ.
The supernatural is still possible in our day. There are signs that follow the gospel when it's preached but why many members of the church aren't effective is because of knowledge problem. The day you know, the devil has no hold of you.
Without faith, you can't appropriate everything you have received in Christ. The same faith it takes to be saved is the same faith it takes to walk in power. When one has the knowledge, one puts it to use with simple faith so one can be effective.
We must understand certain words in reference to its usage in scriptures and not the popular or dictionary definition. The word "blessed" or "blessings" isn't relegated to just materials or finances, it means that God has approved His will over a situation or He has spoken well of it.
Spiritual blessings mean that you’ve believed the gospel and are in Christ, God chose us to be holy and without blame before him in love. This is worth more than any earthly riches.
Every believer is a spiritual being and this means that we should not only focus on the earthly things that we see now. There is eternity for us. A time when the only thing we will be able to do is worship God forever. So do the assignments God has given to you now in service to His will and be sure to do it by the Spirit.
As believers, there's a way we should conduct ourselves. A believer's walk has to be highly accurate with the word of God.
Walking circumspectly talks about a carefulness on our walk as believers and it starts with what the word of God says. We are to walk worthy of the Lord so we can please Him.
In the natural world, you prioritize and are diligent with things like education and career however, we don’t pay as much attention to the things of God because we don’t understand the goal and the plan of God. Before His ascension, Jesus emphasized making disciples meaning making students. As believers, we have to have the attitude of a learner and student, following carefully with all your heart ready to learn, and ready to receive.
Good theology must lead to good praxeology which must lead to good doxology. There is a way that you must walk and conduct yourself as a believer.
The presence of God is context-specific. It can either be the omnipresence of God, the indwelling presence of God or the manifest presence of God.
A reputation used to understand the omnipresence of God is El-Roi, the God who sees. He sees both the good and the bad, He sees beyond our actions and faces, He sees our hearts.
Mankind was created for fellowship and communion with God and best functions in the presence of God. Scriptures show us that David understood this and longed for the presence of God. But what David wished for, we as believers have in abundance because God dwells in us. Thus, by the indwelling presence of God, we have treasures untold.
The same Spirit that gives revelation gives wisdom. Knowledge is important but it is important you learn how to apply it. For whatever you receive, you need wisdom to use it. God is a God of principle.
Areas you must be wise in:
Your time
Your finances
One way to prepare for the new year as believers is to prepare spiritually by supernatural navigation. Prophecy is one way we can be guided as we enter the new year because God has a track record of showing us things before he does it. It is possible to be at the centre of God's plan for our life, to be in step with him through supernatural navigation.
There is what to do after every special spiritual meeting and it is important to be taught about it. Believe that everything you have received from that meeting has been made effective in you and you must sustain it in the place of prayer. Practice a consistent stirring of what you have received by setting structures to pray and remind yourself of the Word.
From scripture, we see that the Holy Ghost is a seal on our inside. He is our guarantee so we can never doubt our eternal destination. The Holy Ghost is the certificate of our adoption as a child of God.
We serve a God who sees all things. He is called El-roi, the one who is willing and able to meet us at the point of our needs. This alludes to the omnipresence of God. We are also taught that God did not dwell in temples made with hands. Instead, he chose to make the believer his dwelling place, his temple. This explains the indwelling presence of God.
The way God fulfilled His promise of living in the hearts of those who believe in Him is through the ministry of the Holy Spirit.
It is through sanctification by the Holy Spirit that we are empowered to live above sin.
This teaching gives us steps to deal with temptation.
It is important to note that the gifts of the Spirit have not ceased in our day instead scripture talks about how they will be common in our day. They are manifestations, operations and activities empowered by the Holy Spirit in believers.
Concerning the gift of tongues, there are a few things you need to know;
The tongues gift is a confirmation of the testimony of Christ.
The tongues gift is a confirmation of the testimony of the believer
This is a part of the introductory teaching to the annual camp meeting of the Catalyst Church, themed ‘Pneumatikos’.
Pneumatikos is the Greek word which means a spiritual being. In this teaching, we learn that there is no salvation without the Holy Spirit and He changes the mechanism of the believer from that of sin to His own nature, giving the ability to live above sin. It is the Holy Spirit who makes the believer a spiritual being. This is the new identity of the believer.
If you believe in the gospel, you have the Holy Spirit living within you. And if you have the Holy Spirit in you, it means that you can express all the gifts of the Spirit.
In this teaching, we are taught to earnestly desire these gifts, pray about being expressive of them and honouring the brethren enough to receive from them, as these gifts are for the edification of the church. We are to be ready to supply the needs of our brothers and sisters at all times.
There are 2 extremes of people:
• People who believe everything in the world is natural
• People who think everything in the world is supernatural.
Both extremes aren't entirely correct because the supernatural can superimpose the natural beyond what the natural mind can explain.
In this teaching, we are taught about the grace of God and how it can cause things to work in the direction of God's plan for your life.
These graces can be made available to one by the spirit and can also be communicated by touch. For these supernatural graces to be seen you need to honour, stir up the hunger, prepare and believe.
Your hunger and receptiveness in any spiritual meeting is important. Even Cornelius who was an unbeliever was hungry for the word and an Angel was sent to send Peter to him.
In preparation for a camp meeting, you have to come prepared with your expectations and ready to soak up all God has in store for you like a sponge.
This Teaching gives us steps on how to prepare for camp meeting.
Ministry gifts are God’s gift to the church. They labour day and night to see that everything lacking in your life is supplied. This is why you must prepare adequately for special spiritual meetings organized for you.
Honouring your ministry gift is one of the most important ways to prepare. Esteem them highly, appreciate them, and do not get too familiar with them, so you can receive all you need from them.
To live your life in the wisdom of God is the wisdom of the Old Testament. The book of Daniel gives accurate prophecies in line with history.
It shows that wickedness would exist as there'll be a succession of evil kingdoms but this doesn't mean that God isn't good; regardless, God's kingdom will be established.
One of the themes of the Bible is the exile of man and God's ability to save them. The book of Daniel also shows this theme and gives the picture of a second Exodus.
In this prophecy, we see God's plan to bring salvation to His people through the Messiah.
Neither exile, nor the law, nor judges, could save the children of IIsraelfrom their sin problem.
Only salvation through Jesus Christ could solve the problem of sin entirely.
The Bible is a divine book but also a literary material. Each genre isn't read the same way. The apocalyptic literature should be read as visions and not necessarily as the real things happening.
The book of Daniel maintains its common theme, that in spite of present troubles, God is in control and He would have us thrive and flourish. Though evil kingdoms will arise, we have hope that the divine kingdom will reign forever
Even in exile, Daniel showed integrity. He stood out as one with an excellent spirit because he honoured God. He stood firm even when others tried to find a charge against him with his God and gave God a chance to be glorified with his life.
In a situation where everyone is in opposition to your faith, do you compromise or do you take a stand? In a culture that pushes you to silence, can you speak up regardless?
When standing for God, it won't always be easy; you might lose your possessions, job, family and even your life but trust in God's ability to save you and even if He doesn't, don't compromise.
We've seen time and time again that the central theme of the book of Daniel is that in spite of present troubles, God is in control and we will have victory. We will not only survive, we will thrive. God can promote you and make you thrive even when you're in exile. Daniel and his friends never protested despite all that happened to them instead they created opportunities for God to work and be glorified.
Babylon is any system that stands in opposition to your God and the flourishing of your faith.
In the book of Daniel, we saw even when Daniel and the Hebrew boys were in situations in opposition to their faith, they didn't protest but they gave God room to be glorified. When in exile, it's not in every system you rebel rather let God make a name for himself through you.
When reading the Bible we must learn to approach it the right way, understanding its culture, content and literary style.
Through the Old Testament, we see man's rebellion, judgement and exile, and God's plan for salvation. In the continued rebellion and exile, we see the origin of the Book of Daniel.
In the good times and the bad, God remains good. Using wisdom literature books of the Bible such as Job, we learn how not to use our bad experiences to make conclusions on the nature of God.
If the Bible says that God is good, then He is good. Choose to trust God regardless of your situation.
There are two steps to Bible interpretation are:
Exegesis and Hermeneutics
Exegesis is the careful systematic study of scripture to discover the original meaning. It is therefore understanding the there and then.
Hermeneutics is knowing how the writer's intentions and words find contemporary relevance to us. It therefore means understanding the here and now
As a good bible student, you must be able to do proper exegesis and one of the approaches while doing exegesis is knowing the historical context. This deals with knowing the time, culture, geography, when it was written, and what necessitated the writing.
The very core of our faith isn't ordinary, it started with a Man dying and rising again. Our decision to follow Jesus is a call to radical living and men who follow Jesus are dead men, you have to pick up your cross and follow Him.
Jesus must command our desires not the treasures of this world. We are called to be different and our actions must show for it.
We have to be radical in the Christian faith.
Our devotion is not complete if we have not learnt how to pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ.
In this sermon, we are taught how to pray for the church and we address prayers on churches that are being persecuted, churches that no longer maintain the standards set by God in His Word in terms of doctrine, and churches that have become lukewarm, that there is rejuvenation, revival and repentance in these churches.
The church of Christ is an assembly of His people called out on the revelation of Him as Lord and Saviour. The Bible must be our single authority to what the church must be.
The most important thing is the doctrine of Christ, you know the truth of Christ by what they declare. We must be united at the core.
Every church must have a strong discipleship culture. The unity of faith is God's desire.
The amount of grace in any local assembly is dependent on 2 things:
• Love for the saints
• Honour for the ministry gift.
True growth in Christ will always be marked by love for the saints. The more you study the Word of God, the more you inculcate the culture of the early church which is love.
Our devotion to God isn't complete until we learn the family side of it. Love for God mandates love for the saints.
As the church of Christ, we have been called out from the world into the family of God. We have been called out from darkness into light.
Because of Christ's sacrifice, we have been sealed with the Spirit of God who seperates us and marks us as God's chosen ones.
When it comes to the making of important decisions or essential things, it isn't based on the closest or finest but based on the value provided. We can't randomly make decisions when it comes to church.
There are 4 major things to look out for in a church:
Proper understanding of the Gospel
Theology on money
Theology on charismatic ministry
Mission mindedness
At Jesus' ascension, He didn't give a farewell but a commission for the work. The great commission is the vision of every church and we must strategies beyond the culture. To be Viral means to be widespread irrespective of culture.
Christ's church must have this message every day that God has accepted the sacrifice of Jesus as propitiation of our sins and has bestowed eternal life upon all who believe.
The greatest tool of Biblical interpretation is common sense, this will help in knowing which principle to use in every situation. You need to understand the 'there and then' before understanding the 'here and now'. Exegesis must be done before hermeneutics.
There are certain questions to ask in hermeneutics:
Did the conversation in any way extend to us?
Is there comparability?
What is inherently moral and what is cultural?
Our priority will always be the Word of God and Biblical Interpretation is an everyday job.
Exegesis involves systematically studying the Bible and scriptures in terms of their geographical, cultural and historical context.
In this sermon, all these are taken into cognizance as we study to understand the then and there.
A major reason we must be diligent with studying the Word of God is because the biggest battle of the devil is our knowledge of the Word of God and the Word of God in our hearts. The devil is fighting and our solution and weapon is with proper study.
Right interpretation is crucial in our relationship with God. Let the word of God dictate our actions.
A workman is one who follows the right approach to rightly study the Word of God. Though the Bible is a divine book, it is a literary material and there can be the barrier of culture or history.
By proper interpretation, you'll understand what the writer intended. When that happens, hold on to the message not the culture.
The Bible is already inspired, don't interpret it with new inspiration. The Bible will never mean today what it never meant when it was written.
The role of the Holy Spirit to the apostles was to help them put together and testify what Jesus had taught them. Our responsibility is to read and understand what the Apostles had taught.
The gospels are synoptic in nature, this means they are to be read together to give the full picture of a whole story. The differences aren't contradictions but prove corroboration and its authenticity, they give a narration.
The Epistles however give an explanation and a teaching.
The Bible is a divine book yet it is a literary material. It was written in human language, so it contains various writing styles and different forms.
To understand the Bible, you must first understand that it isn't meant to be read separately. The Old testament is the new testament concealed and the new testament is the old testament revealed, this should be our approach.
There's a right way to divide the Word of God, this means there's also a wrong way so we have to be studious when it comes to the study of God's word and this will take time and effort.
There are ways to approach studying the Bible, both the Old and New Testament and this involves reading each book with respect to their genres.
Every believer is highly combustible and capable of catching fire, all you need to do is to set yourself.
There are 3 important things to know about fire:
Fire is an emblem
This fire doesn't destroy, it sanctifies
There's a system to fire.
Fire produces results and ministry should be done with fire.
God will have you always on fire and it is your responsibility to not quench it.
The next most important thing after salvation is revelation knowledge and a lot of study has to go into the knowledge of who you are in Christ. You can't leave your spiritual growth to chance.
One thing that must be learnt is honour for the Word of God. Before you learn how to understand the Word, learn how to value it. There are ways the Word of God should be received:
Receive it with all humility and meekness
Receive it objectively
Receive it with joy
There's a standard in God and you must study to reach this. The Word of God gives brings clarity and must be our guide.
Proper Bible study will take time and effort and this must be our life not just a lifestyle.
God's structure for the sustenance of the believer is the church of Christ, and the result of consistency is progress. For something to stand the test of time, it takes time so
Commit to your growth in the Word
Commit to your church because that's one place growth will happen
God's plan for every believer is Spiritual growth; as believers, there must be a target for your growth. You must be committed to and diligent with your growth, and this requires staying and remaining under the tutelage of your ministry gift and applying yourself.
The greatest proof of Jesus being the Messianic King is His resurrection and this means:
Our sins have been forgiven
The question of life after death is answered and is no longer a mystery
Jesus is Lord and King over our hearts
Theology doesn't end in knowledge, the ultimate goal is to transcend knowledge to understanding and beyond understanding to practice it. So, it must be evident that God is King in our life.
The central theme of the Bible is salvation and even in the fall of man, we see 3 things:
Rebellion
Judgement and exile
Plan for Salvation
God is a master communicator and through the whole Bible, we see Him communicate about a saviour, "The Christ".
The hypostatic union describes the humanity and divinity of Jesus united in one person. This is how God took on human nature yet was fully God.
Jesus Christ is one person: fully God and fully man. He is the source of our salvation because He is God and also the captain of our salvation because He did the work.
Christ is the epitome of our faith, so every believer must come to understand who He is.
Was Jesus fully divine and not man at all? No.
Any claim against the humanity of Jesus is a claim against our salvation and against the prophetic accuracy of the Bible.
The knowledge of who Jesus is forms the foundation of what we believe. It matters to Jesus who we say He is.
Is He just a man? This sermon proves the deity and divinity of Jesus.
The Gospel is so simple that children can understand it, yet so profound that studied by the wisest theologians will never exhaust its reach.
To fully understand the gospel you need to understand why it’s needed in the first place. 3 questions that can help you articulate this thought
1 Why does man need to be saved?
2 What does he need to be saved from?
3 What must man do to be saved?
Balance is an important principle in life and as believers, we have to be balanced in every aspect of our spiritual life.
We need to be able to know what is lacking and overemphasize it until it meets up to what it should be.
The believer should have the attitude of an ever-learning student of the Word and every cell group is a ground for discipleship.
There are things to know about cell group meetings:
Cell groups are for spiritual growth
Cell groups are for evangelism
Meetings are to be regularly
Cell group meetings should be kept small
There are 2 common things that can be seen in all the accounts of the great commission
Discipleship
Teaching
It involves continuous learning and training. There is a kind of training Jesus expects us to have as students of the Word, and there are things to note about a student:
A student must be taught from scratch
A student must be taught everything about a particular subject
A student must be taught every important subject matter.
The goal of a cell group is discipleship and we see precedence in scriptures for it. Cell groups are mini church services and a believer's growth is hinged on both meetings.
Prayer is an investment in your life and it requires investment of time.
There are reasons why we pray long:
We have examples and standards all through scriptures
It births faith demonstration
It is an investment to yourself and your future
To be effective in the word of God, you must put it to practice and this applies to prayer. When it comes to prayer, you have to take practical steps to not leave it to chance.
As believers, we ought to look through the lens of the scriptures and Jesus to learn about prayer. To pray right, we have to pray according to the Word.
Growth and consecration change prayer focus. With a proper understanding of identity and consecration, our Father's business becomes our business.
Jesus taught consecration and obedience in prayer.
Jesus taught the disciple's how to pray and the Lord's prayer is not a chant to recite but a pattern of how to pray.
God is our Father and we have access to Him, this should be our approach to prayer.
When you approach prayer you have to approach it rightly because there is a standard in God.
3 reasons why you must pray
Prayer projects faith in God.
Desire is silent, but prayer is heard.
It is the last days.
Baptism is an immersion into a spiritual experience and this series is to pull you into a journey to experience the fullness of prayer.
The teaching of God's word isn't just for explanation but also instruction, so learning about prayer from the word of God is to spur you unto more prayer.
What influences us is the word of God and its curriculum, this applies even in relationships and marriages.
Marriage is an earthly institution with eternal implications. It is a lifelong journey and that's why one must choose right.
One thing as believers you must do is to cherish relationships. Relationships are bound to have friction but it's how you respond to the situation that matter.
A purposeful relationship is one that leads to marriage to the end that you both spur yourselves up unto good works. In building a relationship, there is more work to be done to sustain it and make it work.
Choosing a person to spend life with is an intelligent decision. When building your criteria, prioritize rightly. A major reason for wrong criteria is wrong identity and purpose.
Courtship is when to love intelligently and marriage is when to love blindly. It is important to consider the things you see when choosing a life partner.
As a believer, you need to ask the right questions to get the right answers to build the right relationship. As much as you want to know the "God when", it is needed to know the "God why".
Love is beyond an action, it is a person: God. When you consider God's love, then you can truly learn how to love.
God's number one desire is the salvation of all men; as believers, this should also be our priority. God has given us the message, we must announce it.
Honour is a biblical culture. You can't claim to honour God and not honour His messengers. Through honour, your growth and faith can be discerned.
Let opportune moments meet you prepared. That way we can sustain graces.
When grace brings you somewhere, continue to pray and edify yourself so you don’t live a life of contradiction.
Prepare so that when the spotlight hits you, it would not be your undoing but rather you would be ready for it.
Build competence!!
As you go into the new year,
Be better at bible study, and read books.
If God is going to trust you with souls, let’s see you successful in other things.
See things through.
God did not give Moses the Rod. The day God spoke to him, it stopped being ordinary. God wasn’t only giving Moses signs, he was teaching him control. The proof that God sent you to do something is that you can do it over and over again. A donkey spoke in the bible but cannot do it again. But you healing the sick, God wants you to learn how to do it repeatedly.
Everything that has been, continues to be (that is naturally speaking).
The sun will continue to rise east and set in the west, and the cycle of water would continue to start in the clouds, then to rain and ultimately end back in the clouds. The same thing happens with the new year. In the same way the day changed from yesterday into today, it will change from the 31st of December to the 1st of January.
Rain would continue to fall until Elijah halts it, and the water would continue to fill the landscape of the sea until Moses splits it. Water would continue to be liquid until Jesus renders it solid enough to walk on Nature would occur as it always has until believers do something about it. Thus, the new year would only be new when you intervene and do something new.
The destiny of the man in Christ is not subject to the natural occurrences of the world. Unlike the rest of the world we are not bound by nature, the very foundation of our faith defies nature itself. Nature can not explain how a virgin would bare a son, nature can not explain how this same son would die, be buried for 3 full days and in a matter of moments would rise from the dead as if never died at all never to die again.
What did Solomon ask for?
“understanding heart to judge thy people”
Did he ask for wisdom?
Is he the wisest man and what wisdom does he have to offer?
Firstly David was a man of noticeable devotion.
He spoke and wrote and sang passionately about the things of God.
David spoke of satisfaction and total satisfaction in God.
Secondly, When you get all the facts, you realize that Goliath was at the Disadvantage.
Goliath didn't even come close.
David was Competent.
Many things to learn from David.
3 objectives for this teaching:
You learn a lot of things from the word of God but a lot of people have not learnt to give knowledge relevance in their daily life.
How do you retain the consciousness of all you have learnt in the word of God till it becomes action?
There is a huge gap in the growth of many believers where they learn so much and have so much information about the bible and greek words but they live a life that is in total opposition.
The word of God can be studied. Even atheists study it.
But there has to be a difference between just hearing the words forknowledge'se sake and actually letting its words touch and change your heart.
The first thing you have to realize is that the church is under attack. There is a worldwide attack on the church.
The amount of grace you see in any assembly of God’s people is dependent highly on two major factors:
These two things are very important recipes in the grace you see in any assembly. The progress, the impact.
Once these two things are present every other thing flows easily.
There is a Radical sense to our faith. It overthrows the Normal. We carry a message that might sound foolish to people but its true.
Unity is one of God’s overarching desires for his people.
Having different small churches is not the problem, having many denominations is the problem. Because Unity in the church is unity in the word.
Salvation is personal and yet not personal. You are saved into an assembly.
You have been called out into a fellowship. A fellowship of the church of the firstborn.
The Church of Christ, The Church of Jesus.
Corinthians 6:19 NKJV
[19] Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
The Hebrew Scriptures anticipated the day when the Spirit of God would be present among all of His people.
When the presence of God would dwell with mankind forever.
The result is simply this: God’s holy space is now the people of God who have found their identity in Jesus and His finished work.
And he has come to stay forever!
This is your reality in Christ!
Luke 4:4,8,12 NKJV
[4] But Jesus answered him, saying, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.'"
[8] And Jesus answered and said to him, "Get behind Me, Satan! For it is written, 'You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve.' "
[12] And Jesus answered and said to him, "It has besen said, 'You shall not tempt the LORD your God.' "
Jesus said! The greek word for saying there is legō it means to break the silence it can also mean to affirm.
He spoke in response.
Learn to respond to temptations with affirmations, with speaking. Don’t fight thoughts with thoughts but with speech.
John 4:22-24 NKJV
[22] You worship what you do not know; we know what we worship, for salvation is of the Jews. [23] But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. [24] God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
This is how worship is made easy in the New Testament. You have been redeemed to God and saved. And your worship to God is meaningful. It’s a deep spiritual activity.
God’s spirit lives inside of you now, it calls you to deep intimate fellowship with God.
The gospel call is a call to worship, to turn from sin and death and call upon the name of the Lord in boldness and in response to who he is.
The sole purpose of the existence of man is to serve God and do the will of God. It is to the Glory of God!
It’s obedience and consecration to God.
This was never a struggle for man, it was an effortless activity.
For the new creation, an opportunity presents itself again, Not just for the mere whispering of words in devotion, but for men who would stop at nothing to connect their lives to the source of all lives constantly and would give hours in prayer and study.
The aim of this teaching is to give a clear understanding of what tongues is and why it’s important to the believer.
Other than service man was created in direct communion with God because that’s the structure we see in Genesis.
Mankind was made to also function in reliance on his creator. At the basic level, mankind was made to be in perfect communion with God. You can call Eden a perfect picture of God’s idea for mankind.
The connection to God, the service, and the worship of God. Not just that but also in obedience to God.
The sole purpose of the created man is to serve God and do the will of God. It’s obedience and consecration to God. This was never a struggle for man, it was an effortless activity.
As you grow in God you have to grow in love as well.
2 Timothy 1:5-6 NKJV
[5] when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also. [6] Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.
Paul is telling Timothy to stir up the gifts. Which means there is something we can do to make it active and effective.
There is an age where every believer would have the spirit and every believer would prophesy as Moses wished and Joel prophecied. This is that generation. The gifts of the spirit are available to all.
Charisma is a Greek word that means divine gifting or graces. And throughout this month we are going to be discussing the subject of spiritual gifts in-depth and knowing all that God has put inside of us by his spirit.
Earnest means going overboard to assure the other person and eradicating any doubt on your willingness to keep up your end.
God did that by giving you the spirit to also ensure there is no doubt in your heart about your salvation.
By the spirit, Jesus would purge his floor leaving the good ones. This is the Job of the governor in a new land.
When a country colonizes another country, they establish governors. Whose Job is to enact the culture of the home culture in the new place.
The Holy Ghost changes your desires and makes your desires similar to the hometown separating you. That is sanctification.
Making you identify as a citizen of heaven. That way the chaff is separated from the wheat.
He would purge the floor. He would govern from within you. Blowing off all inconsistencies and marking you for God.
From understanding the Gospel and all I have taught you about who Christ is, there are results that should be birthed in you.
There are fruits that have to be birthed in you.
There are the fruits that should be evident. We should be able to tell that you are a believer in how you live your life.
Salvation is a miracle of a changed heart, not just a miracle of a changed heart but also a miracle of changed desires.
A man in Christ has his desires changed completely.
The Results of the Good News!
Salvation is a miracle of transformation. The Old is gone and the new is here. The spirit of God makes you a new man. Your old life is dead and you now live the life of Christ.
We have spoken about the problem and we have seen the solution in the Messiah or Christos and how Jesus is the Christ. We have seen his passion and suffering and we have seen his glorification which can also mean his ascension.
In today’s teaching, I want to put all you have learnt together and give you a full understanding of the Gospel and how a man is saved. You know the problem, you know the solution but how do you get to be a part of this. How does it apply to you?
The Christ and his Passion.
If Jesus did not die then our sins are not forgiven because he was the lamb that God accepted for our sins, if he did not resurrect then he is not the King forever but not only that because his resurrection allowed for the Holy Ghost to come and live In us as temples.
In today's teaching, we would be addressing the problem.
To fully understand the Gospel, you have to understand why it is needed in the first place. What necessitated salvation?
And to fully understand this, you must understand God and his attributes. in understanding God and his attributes, you would better understand what necessitated salvation and what the problem really is.
Why Pray Long?
We have to alienate the Idea that praying long is only for when you have issues or for some special type of people.
The same goes for praying fervently.
The bible says But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength.
There were some technical issues so this teaching is incomplete.
You can request a transcript of the full teaching from the Admin!
Prayer can be taught and you have to learn the right way to go about prayer. The fact that it’s a spiritual activity does not mean that it cannot be learnt or taught.
[1] And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
Not teach us a prayer, so Jesus was teaching method not a prayer you should pray every day. Not a chant to recite and say you have prayed.
He was not the first to teach about prayer but his teaching is very important. The other people who taught It had divine encounters but Jesus was divine.
He teaches with so much clarity no one else can.
From his prayer, we can know how to pray. We can learn. The son of God prayed, we have to learn how he prayed.
Many people think you can just travel anywhere and join any church. Many people think it’s love walk. Let’s just believe in any church and support any church.
But the Bible says different. The Bible calls that immaturity. The Bible calls such people children tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine.
You can attend any program, or in some cases, 1 program with 15 ministers who contradict each other, and you are blessed.
And some people think doing this makes them good Christians but the Bible says it makes you a baby.
By all means, your local church is the centerpiece of God’s plan for your spiritual growth. Your pastor is the set man to train you and disciple you.
“All things being equal”, meaning if you attend a good local church if all you learn is all that is being taught in your local church you are OK.
There is a saying, “If every local church is doing what they need to be doing, there would be no need for bible school”.
This is because a local church is supposed to run a deep curriculum to build up every member in their faith.
Your sustenance as a believer is found in a local church under the leadership of a pastor.
A teaching on spiritual fortitude.
It's our year of Dynamic Spread!
This is a continuation of the last two teachings I did explaining what Dynamic spread means and the instruction from God to do a couple of teachings as we begin this year to prepare us for the days ahead.
A teaching on supernatural navigation
It's our year of Dynamic Spread!
This is a continuation of the first teaching I did this year, explaining what Dynamic spread means.
God has instructed that I do a couple of teachings as we begin this year and this is one of them.
Headstart into 2022, Our year of Dynamic spread!!
Explaining the theme and prophecies for the year.
If God is Good, Why do bad things happen?
This is the fifth and last part of our teaching series on Contend.
Any historic material can be tested for its accuracy even after several transmissions.
We would address 3 things that answer the question was the Bible properly copied?:
I’ll be attempting to answer the following questions. The teaching might be divided into two so we can properly break down all the things we have.
At the end of the teaching, the following are the questions that we should have answered:
There are different arguments for the existence of God but I’ll discuss few of the most convincing.
And put together, these provide a very compelling case that God exists. Let’s touch some of the popular ones:
Ref: [Jude 1:3KJVS]
Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation,(Jude is saying, Im writing to you about the common salvation, which is important but) it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.
Jude saw it necessary to emphasize that they(and in extension us) CONTEND. The Greek word there is epagōnizomai whichliterally means to struggle like one entering into a gymnastics contest. To contend with adversaries, fight, to fight fervently.
To endeavor with strenuous zeal, strive: to obtain something.
So there is a necessity not just to get yourself saved but now, to contend for the faith which was once delivered to the saints, why? Because of perversion.
Jude addresses an example of such in the people who began to turn grace to lasciviousness and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. So it’s your responsibility to strive to establish the truth of your faith before those who aim to pervert it.
In Christ we discern the exact character of God and what he is like. Not just in the work of salvation but also in the actions Jesus took.
He is the closest we would come to seeing and Understanding God.
As we see the need to defend the deity of Christ, we must see the importance of the humanity of Christ.
It’s important to see that Jesus was also a man. God took on flesh.
My goal at the end of this teaching :
Joel prophesied about our day in Joel 2:28.
Ref: [Joel 2:28 KJV]
And it shall come to pass afterward,
that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh;
and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy,
your old men shall dream dreams,
your young men shall see visions:
What Moses wished those days is available today.
1 Corinthians 14:1 KJVS] [1] Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy.
The word Desire used there is the Greek word zēloō. It means to burn with zeal. To be zealously affected.
Desire spiritual gift. Burn with zeal for it.
It’s not a luxury
It’s not youthful exuberance.
You’re wrong if you don’t desire it.
It's an instruction in the word.
Scriptures complete and furnish the believer unto all good works. The teachings you get have to find expression in your works.
When we see you we should see the evidence of all you have been taught. This is actual spiritual growth.
You can learn all the things and have so much knowledge but we wouldn’t consider you to have grown of the word of God doesn’t have this impact in your works. If it doesn’t find expression in your life.
Insecurity is uncertainty or anxiety about oneself; lack of confidence.
Nothing solves insecurity better than an increased consciousness of who you are in Christ Jesus. The feeling of not being enough would be solved when you understand better who you are in Christ.
There is an unhealthy comparison the world has made many of us get used to. Insecurity rises from there.
God has a track record of using people who seemed incapable and turns them to mighty men in his hands. There are examples of people in scriptures.
Anxiety:
Intense, excessive, and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations.
This is a real situation people face every day. Not being able to keep calm because of fear of what is happening or what could happen.
In this situation, perfect peace is almost unrealistic because it would seem as if you are not facing reality if you are calm.
What does the Bible say about this?
Jesus also lived in a time like this. When he was born, all his age mates where he lived were killed.
His cousin John the Baptist was beheaded. The Jews were living in a time where the economy was terrible and they were ruled by the Romans. They had to pay taxes even when the majority of them were not earning enough to support their families.
They were expecting a savior. Then Jesus comes to the scene and promises them peace in a time where things were so unsettled.
This teaching is one that every believer has to be equipped with. It can mark the difference between a believer who is perpetually victorious in God and a believer who is defeated when the troubles of this world become too much.
Is perfect peace real or even possible?
The number one battle of the enemy today is not a battle against your health or marriage but a struggle that you don’t come to the knowledge of God or don’t grow in your faith. And it’s so sad that the biggest attack of the devil on the church is the place we place our focus the least.
There are rules to Bible Interpretation and in this episode we discuss them.
In this episode, we discussed two things:
Firstly: If we are to read the inspiration of the apostles, discover what the writer intended, and seek no other interpretation, then where is the place of the Holy Spirit teaching us all things, or ***bringing to our understanding the things we have learned?
Secondly: The inspiration of the spirit came to the apostles and they wrote. Any inspiration contrary is wrong. And the bible can easily be understood by reading the epistles, the writings of the apostles and they wrote it for us to understand. Every barrier to the interpretation of the Bible is man-made. And we would examine a few of them today. *What are common barriers to bible interpretation?
Moral Interpretation of the bible
Allegorical Interpretation of the Bible
Literal Interpretation
Two other ones area anagogical & Liberal interpretation.
As a good bible student, you want to subscribe to the literal school of thought. Unless where clearly stated as an allegory, you stick to interpreting the text according to its plain or literal meaning according to grammatical construction, historical context, and the intention of the author.
You cannot master anything you have not deliberately learned.
It’s a popular issue right now where many of the things we believe about God are not from the Bible but are from other people. It’s because we have not taken deliberate efforts to learn from the Bible.
There are two general approaches to biblical interpretation:
In this sermon we discuss deeper on how to interpret the bible.
The disciples came back describing their experience and Jesus responded saying I see Satan as lightning fall from heaven. That was what Jesus saw. You need to see what Jesus saw.
The experience was good, but you need to see what Jesus saw, to experience what he experienced.
The experience was good, but the revelation here ranked higher. That the devil is fallen.
You would become more effective in the believer's authority when you can see as christ did.
Christ saw Satan defeated. What do you see?
We have been taught to be on the defensive and run away when it comes to spiritual attacks.
From teaching us to hide our blessings from people, to stop sleeping with your legs on the wall, to stop telling people your age, to don’t let anybody touch your head etc
We have learnt to accommodate the wickedness in our surrounding. We have gotten so comfortable with the powers these people use. And so we try all our bests not to step on anyones toes.
But the first lesson you must learn when it comes to spiritual warfare is to know what you carry and boast about it.
Dynamo is from the word Dynamis from the same word where you get the word Dunamis which means power. And dynamo refers to a powerful energetic individual.
A Synonym for dynamo is live wire or fireball. And this is very very important because what the believer carries is explosive and dynamic in its working.
Dynamic means: something that’s changing, active, in motion, able to change, and adapt is suitable for any and every situation. We spoke on the name and the power in the name.
Be blessed.
No matter how sound the teaching is if you don’t believe you would not receive it. The same goes for authority.
You can preach the gospel to a person if he chooses not to believe he would not be saved,
In the same way, you can tell a person of the authority he has in Christ if he also chooses not to believe he would not operate in it.
If we say all you have received because of salvation and you refuse to believe it, you would not function in it.
What if all the issues you had about the devil are all in your head and you are more powerful than you think.
If only you dare believe. It’s up to you to believe who you are as said in the scriptures.
The Gospel's message is not complete unless we speak about the result.
Many times you see the apostle Paul start letters with who they are in Jesus and in the end he says from this I hereby charge you to do so and so.
Same here after the teachings on the Gospel, there is a result that should be birthed in you. These are the fruits that should be evident.
And so this teaching is crafted as an Intervention and a charge in the direction of Love and Dating. As God’s gift to this body, I will be furnishing from the word of God.
We apologize to everyone as we had some technical issues where we lost the recording of the second part of this message.
We are trying to find a quick solution which may be providing the transcript of the sermon.
In Part 2 we discussed
2.Did Jesus really resurrect?
In this Sermon, we are discussing Gospel/Salvation Semantics.
Repentance, Morality/works, Zeal is not salvation. Salvation comes from believing the message of the gospel.
We discussed what really the gospel is and its simplicity.
To religious folks it is reckless to us it’s the power of God.
"It sounds foolish, too simple impossible, this would not make us change the message or sugar coat it."
You’ll be surprised at how many “Christians” today do not know the Gospel. And that statement in itself is a paradox and many people cannot even see that. You are only a Christian because you believe in the “Christ” and his gospel. So you are not a Christian if you don’t know or believe the Gospel.
Oftentimes, a pastor would give an invitation at the end of his message asking people to come forward to receive Jesus as Savior and Lord, but the pastor never explained who Jesus is, what he has done, or why you need him.
This series broke it down into 4 parts:
In this episode, we discussed The Problem and The Christ.
