So, for this week, I would like to talk about the competition for remote job positions.

Focus here on remote jobs in the United States and the general nature of remote jobs; your specific field and a different location in the world may make it easier for you to find a remote job position.

When you read content on the Internet or hear a news story, you will learn about organizations that decide to have people end their remote job positions and come back to the office.

AP (The Associated Press) article about competition for full-time remote jobs in the United States for 2025In an article from the AP (The Associated Press) called “Facing stiff competition, remote workers up their game” by Cathy Bussewitz, the author talked about how competition for remote job positions is more competitive in 2025.

One suggestion the article gives to people seeking remote opportunities is to look for opportunities in the field where you are currently working and are an expert; rather than trying to compete in other fields where you would be new to the field and competing against job applicants who have experience in that field.

The link to the article is here

https://apnews.com/article/finding-remote-jobs-employment-tips-76a61cc6a646493dc3f5e0bfa733160c

Google searchIf you do a Google search asking the question

“Is the competition for full-time remote job positions harder to get in 2025?”

The A.I. part of the answer to Google search mentioned that it is indeed more challenging to find full-time remote job positions in 2025.

The A.I. mentioned that many people desire the ability to work remotely full-time.

The A.I. mentioned that the supply of full–time remote positions was in decline, while the supply of applicants wanting full–time remote employment is going up.

The article gave some suggestions for people looking for full-time remote work. For example, see if it is possible to take your current job and do it remotely.

You may face competition from hundreds or even thousands of other people applying for the same full-time remote job position.

So, what to do then? Here are some ideas

  • Will a hybrid position work for you?
  • You may find less competition for jobs if a hybrid position works for you.
  • A hybrid position where you go to a work location part of the time, and the other part of the time you work from your home.
  • Apply to firms directly in your industry and see if they have remote opportunities.
  • Sometimes you can show an interest in opportunities even if you do not see a job position listed.
  • Informational interviews with people doing the work you want to do remotely.
  • See if you can talk to people doing the type of work you want to do, and who are working remotely. Talk to people who are working full-time remotely in the fields you are interested in.
  • An informational interview is where you talk to a person in a profession you are interested in for a short period, and you ask that person questions about that profession. Be aware that informational interviews are not places to ask for opportunities; informational interviews are for the information.
  • You may learn from others about how they got a remote job position.
  • One place to find contact names for informational interviews is LinkedIn.
  • Career experts
  • You may find remote opportunities by asking career experts about how to improve your job search.
  • Get additional training
  • You may find that getting further training in an area may help you find a remote job position.

Pause your remote job searchIf you find in your field that the competition for remote jobs is highly competitive, take a “pause” in your search and look at the field of remote employment at a later time to see if the opportunities may be better in the future.

During your pause, you may (if you wish) get an additional education in another career field.

Remote jobs can have many advantages for the job seeker. You may find options that are not possible in a non-remote job position.

Thanks for listening. Thank you.

This week, like to talk about technology change and career change.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman describe career changeI heard the CEO of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, talk about career change.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman mentioned that in 10 years from now; college graduates (or at least some of them anyway) may work in space with a totally new job position and earn a high salary.

The quote I found on career change

“In 2035, that graduating college student, if they still go to college at all, could very well be leaving on a mission to explore the solar system on a spaceship in some completely new, exciting, super well-paid, super interesting job,” (from Yahoo Tech Fortune article; the link to the specific article is https://tech.yahoo.com/ai/articles/openai-ceo-sam-altman-says-151944949.html)

The quote reminds me that careers go through career changes.

But I wonder if the career change rate is going faster and faster.

Technology change–an explosionIn my understanding, technology change can sometimes resemble an explosion.

Not only is technology change occurring in our society–but the rate of technology change is occurring faster and faster.

If you compared technology change to a snowball going down a hill, the snowball would become larger and larger as the snowball is going down the hill faster and faster.

With technology such as A.I., career changes may occur faster, as some careers disappear and others appear. Some careers may no longer exist in the future, and new careers will develop that we never heard of before. Careers may change at a rapid rate.

Career changes may occur at a quick rate. Change will be a consistent element in the coming years related to careers.

Now I like to get your thoughts

What do you think about technology change and career change?

This week, I would like to explore career association websites.

Career associations can help people explore a career and find professional opportunities in that career field. Career associations are people in a particular career who gather to learn and support each other.

A career association may have a website.

I like to focus on career-association websites.

Some things a career association website can do are:

  • Give content information about that profession
  • (and one side advantage is that this information is likely to be up to date)
  • Might find information to help you with informational interviews.
  • (An informational interview where you talk to a person in that profession to learn more about that profession)
  • May help you find opportunities in that profession.
  • You may find job positions (for example) advertised on a career association web site–giving the opportunities in that career.
  • May find information on how competitive a career.

Example American Marketing Association

You can find one example of a profession’s competitiveness on the American Marketing Association career website.

If you go to the American Marketing Association career website at www.ama.org

Then click the link “Job Boards” (link towards the top part of the computer screen if you have a laptop computer screen)

You have a menu of options that appears; you can then select the choice that says “Marketing Job Board. “

You can then see jobs in the marketing profession.

You can have a “Job Board Snapshot” where you can see the number of employers and job seekers.

You may find a wide variety of information on a career association website. You may find your next opportunity on a career association website.

Thank you for listening. Thank you.

This week, we look at Career Exploration tools

We look at Career Associations as a way to explore a career.

Career Associations are (at least one definition) people grouped together related to a particular career.

National/Local Level

Career Associations may have both national and regional career associations. The regional career association may have different career resources than the national career association. So, you may be able to get information from both the national and regional career associations to help you with career exploration.

Here are some ways career associations can help you with career exploration

• Career Association may have detailed information about that profession

• Publication catalog – a career association may publish a publication catalog listing different publications (like books and magazines) that a career association may produce; you may get more information about a profession.

• Career Journals—A career association may have a career journal, Which is a magazine that the association produces. The journal covers current topics in that profession.

Annual Review

A career journal may also publish an annual review edition, which gives the reader valuable information about the profession’s current state over the last year (not all career journals will have an annual review). The annual review may include information on job prospects, salary rates, and educational standards.

• Membership directory—A career association may provide a membership directory, which you can use as a source for informational interviews.

• Job Openings – a career association may provide job openings; you may get more information about a profession by looking at the job openings of that profession. You may learn, for example, skills that are needed, what educational requirements are requested, and the typical work activities being requested in the job positions of that profession.

• Conferences – sometimes, a career association may offer a conference where you may learn more about a profession. Conferences may allow you the following.

  1. Hear speakers about the current topics in the profession.

  2. You may be able to visit commercial business booths at the conference. The commercial business booths at the conference sell different products and services that would interest people attending the conference. You may learn about some of the products and services used in the profession by looking at commercial business booths.

  3. Employment service – sometimes conferences may offer an employment service – you may be able to learn about the profession by seeing what opportunities may be available. The competition for those opportunities at the conference may also give you an idea of how competitive it may be to find opportunities in that profession.

Here are some ways to find career information to explore a career.

Career associations can help you explore a career.

Thanks for listening.

Be aware that there are different job search techniques; you have more job search techniques than just applying for jobs. In this post, we will explore some different job search techniques.

You can search for your remote job position using different job-searching techniques.

Some of the different techniques are:

•Applying for job positions

•Applying to organizations directly (You can apply to an organization to ask about opportunities even if you do not find any job positions)

•Volunteering (sometimes volunteering can lead to a job offer)

•Job Fairs (Job Fairs can lead to job opportunities)

•Networking (someone you know gives you information about a job opportunity)

•Career Offices in Colleges and Universities (if you are a student or alumni of a college or university–you may find your next opportunity from a career office)

These are some of the job techniques you may use; you may find it valuable to use different methods to increase your success in the job search.

You are not likely, nor would I recommend, trying to do all the job search techniques you can find. You will probably get too exhausted trying to use all the different job search techniques. I would recommend concentrations of two or three methods.

Career Feedback

The other piece of advice I would give regarding job search is feedback.

Find a career expert to advise you on your job search; feedback can be a critical element in helping you get better.

The 2013 edition of What Color Is Your Parachute

The 2013 edition of What Color Is Your Parachute lists different job search techniques (and gives the success rates of different job search techniques).

Google Searches

You may also want to do a Google search using “Job Search techniques and success rate” (or a similar phrase). You may find some resources on Job Search techniques and success rates.

Different job search techniques may increase your odds of finding a remote job.

This week, I thought of doing something somewhat different.

I would describe a career book. I want to describe the What Color Is Your Parachute in the 2022 edition.

Your remote job search journey may improve with information from a career book.

What Color Is Your Parachute is a book about career exploration ideas and job hunting.

The book’s author, Richard N. Bolles, wrote annual editions of the book. Richard N. Bolles died in 2017 at age 90.

The What Color Is Your Parachute has had editions past the author’s death.

What Color Is Your Parachute? (The 2022 edition)

I was curious about the latest edition of What Color Is Your Parachute in 2022. So, I thought I would describe the What Color Is Your Parachute in the 2022 edition.

What Color Is Your Parachute has two key features:

  • Career Exploration
  • Job Hunting

Career Exploration

What Color Is Your Parachute helps a reader with career exploration.

The major exercise for helping readers with career exploration is the Flower exercise.

The Flower Excercise

The book gives the idea of knowing your “ideal” work environment.

Creating a Flower gives you some idea of your “ideal” work environment.

The Flower has seven petals.

The 7 pedals represent different features of the work environment.

For example, you have a geography pedal where you describe where you would like to live ideally.

You will not have an “ideal” flower that works for everyone. Different flowers can vary in what environment they would grow best; some would grow better than others. People will vary in what environment they would do better in; some will do better in some work environments than others. The Flower you create will be unique to you.

I think the Flower is a fantastic exercise that gives you insight into what type of work environment would be your “ideal” work environment.

Once you have completed the Flower,

The book in Chapter 7 called “You Get to Choose Where You Work” gives ideas on how to connect the Flower results to the world of careers.

Job-Hunting

The book gives job search ideas.

For example, Chapter 8, “Your Resume is Already Online,” gives information on resumes (along with social media). Chapter 9 provides information about job interviewing, which is called “Fifteen Tips about Your Job Interview.”

Some additional thoughts

Have alternative career ideas

The book mentions having alternative job ideas available to help your job search; the book mentions jobs are constantly changing.

“We are mortal. So are jobs. Understand that truth, and you will avoid a life of bitterness and blame. In today’s world, you must always have a plan B up your sleeve.” (p. 158)

No AI discussed

With the book published in 2022, there was no mention of AI and the effect of AI on the job market. Even though 2022 was not that long ago, AI has become bigger in our society. You may find exploring how AI may influence your job search helpful.

What Color Is Your Parachute? A good book is the 2022 edition. The Flower exercise will give you great information about the “ideal” work environment–that information can help you evaluate what jobs you want to pursue in your future career. The job-hunting techniques can also help you in the job process.

This week, we look at different places where you can find career exploration ideas.

We look at the bookstore.Bookstores may have books, magazines, newspapers, and other content that may help you clarify a career.

Depending upon the reader’s interest, about anything in a bookstore could (in theory) help a person along their career exploration journey. For example, you may read a travel book–and become interested in a travel career.

This post will focus on some general career resources that may be helpful.

Some general career resources could be

  • Education–you may get information about a particular field of study or educational program. For example, you may find information about the GED (General Educational Development (GED)). GED is an alternative credential for a high–-school diploma in the United States.
  • Information on specific national tests – you may find information on specific national tests used for admissions in educational programs. For example, the GRE (Graduate Record Examinations ) is a national test used for admissions to some graduate-level programs in the United States.
  • Information on the Job Search–you may find information on the job search itself, like how to create a better resume.
  • Information to help you with career exploration itself. For example, What Color Is Your Parachute?: A Practical Manual for Job-Hunters and Career-Changers is an annual edition with career exploration and job-hunting information. What Color Is Your Parachute can give the reader exercises to create a flower. The flower will (ideally) create features of the ideal career for the reader.

You may find your next career idea at the bookstore.

I thought I would do a fun, happy, current topic on Superman.

My fiction preferenceOne of my favorite superheroes is Superman.

I often associate Superman with being positive, optimistic, and hope.

The fiction pattern I usually enjoy is where there is a clear good character (or a team of good characters) and a clear bad character (or a team of Bad Characters). And you can cheer on the good characters and hope the bad characters get defeated. You have a pattern where you have the good and bad characters in a conflict- the good and bad characters fight each other, and the good characters win, ideally; you have a positive ending where you feel hopeful about the future- and you have a hopeful, positive feeling at the end.

I get my fiction from movies. I enjoy going to movies and you have a positive ending where the good characters defeat the bad characters, and you leave the movie theater in a positive and hopeful mood.

So, I was glad to see a new Superman movie coming this summer (or those in the United States)

The trailer looks optimistic- and hopes that Superman will be victorious.

One place to watch the Superman trailer is at the link below!

Here is a trailer for the movie.

From the YouTube Channel: DC

YouTube Video Trailor called "Superman | Official Teaser Trailer"

The YouTube Trailor address is the following link address

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhUht6vAsMY

Superman, in the movie, works as a reporter for the Daily Planet newspaper. So, a question:

Does Superman work as a news reporter remotely as a newspaper reporter in the upcoming movie coming out in the summer of 2025?

We see Superman goes to an office in the trailer, so he does not have a 100% remote job, but does he work part of the time as a newspaper reporter in his home–does he have a hybrid remote job?

I am curious about your opinions.Leave your comments. Leave your comments on the "Does Superman work remotely?" YouTube channel on the Live Your Life Learning YouTube channel. The link is below:

USA Jobs is a federal government website that helps job seekers find job openings. USA Jobs described itself as

About USAJOBS

USAJOBS connects job seekers with federal employment opportunities across the United States and around the world. As the federal government’s official employment site, USAJOBS helps the right people find the right jobs. (from https://help.usajobs.gov/about)

The federal government system has two types of remote job positions:

  • Remote–a job position that is 100% remote most of the time; may occasionally report to an office
  • Telework–these partial remote positions allow you to work from home, but you must go into an office at various times.

A description of these two types of remote job positions is below.

Remote Jobs

USA Jobs describes remote jobs as:

“A remote job in the federal government is one where you are not expected to report to an official agency worksite regularly. Instead, you will work from your home or other alternative worksite either within or outside of the commuting area of your agency’s official worksite.” (from https://help.usajobs.gov/faq/job-announcement/remote)

“Am I expected to come to an office?

As a remote worker, you may occasionally travel to an office for training or other reasons, but you will not regularly commute to an office for your day-to-day work.” (from https://help.usajobs.gov/faq/job-announcement/remote)

How to search for Remote job positions

Go to USAJobs.gov

You will then see a search feature at the top of the screen.

Type “Remote” in the “Location or Remote” box.

Then click the “Search” box.

You will then get a listing of remote jobs.

Telework Jobs

What is telework (hybrid)?

Many federal jobs offer the option to work from home and from an office location. Sometimes this is referred to as a hybrid schedule or hybrid work, but the federal government calls this telework. How often you are required to report to an office depends on the agency and the job duties.

Telework-eligible jobs are not the same as remote positions, which is a position where you work from home or an approved alternative worksite without a requirement to regularly go into an office. Review the job announcement to understand the requirements before applying to a job. (from https://help.usajobs.gov/faq/job-announcement/telework)

How to search for Telework job positions

Go to www.usajobs.gov

You will find a search tool at the top of the screen.

  • Put in a geographical location where you would like to work.

You will hopefully get a list of job positions.

You can then search for this list of job positions by telework.

You have some choices on the right side of the screen.

You can select the plus mark next to the word “Location.”

You then will get a menu of choice to appear.

Select the choice that says “Offers telework.”

You then should get a list of job positions that offer the telework option.

Telework jobs sometimes require you to report to an office, so you need to express a particular geographical location.

Hiring Path Filter

Other filters

You may want to add additional filters to the list of jobs.

You may wish to apply for a Hiring Path Filter.

Click the box plus sign next to the words “Hiring Paths” to open up a menu of different options.

The federal government reserves specific jobs for people with a particular background (for example, some federal jobs require people to be veterans)

The Hiring Path filter lists different filters based on a person’s background. For example, the “Veterans” filter applies to federal government jobs for veterans.

The more filters you can select, the more job positions you would be qualified for.

About everyone will select the “Open to the public” Hiring Path filter.

Symbols

The Hiring Path filters list has a symbol next to each filter.

The symbols are small circles.

The symbol helps to communicate what hiring path that symbol represents.

For example, the “Veterans” hiring path is a symbol

“Open to the general public” hiring path has a symbol.

Each Hiring Path filter will have a symbol.

The different job descriptions will also have Hiring Path symbols.

A job description may have more than one Hiring Path symbol; therefore, people of various backgrounds may qualify for the position.

You want to look at the Hiring Path symbol in the job description to see if you have a background that would allow you to qualify for the job position.

You do not want to waste your time applying for a job position when you do not have the right background to apply for the job.

For example, if a job position only has a “Veterans” Hiring Path Symbol, the job is qualified for veterans only. You do not want to waste time applying for the job if you are not a veteran.

The Federal Government has different federal remote job positions. You may find your next remote job with the federal government.

Thanks for listening. Thank you. Take care.

Hello Everyone

Happy New Year as we enter 2025.

Content Calendar for 2025For those who may be interested, here are my current thoughts on my content calendar for 2025 for Live Your Life Learning.

Sort of outline of content for the next year.

Second WeekCollection Deposit

I am calling the posts that appear in the second week of every month “Collection Deposit.” These thoughts may help a person on a remote opportunity journey.

Third WeekCareer Exploration

The third week of posts centers on career exploration ideas to help people explore a career.

Fourth WeekExplore what (if any) remote opportunities may be in a particular economic sector in Omaha, Nebraska.

I will contact different organizations in a specific economic sector in Omaha, Nebraska, asking those organizations what (if any) remote opportunities those organizations may have.

Then, I will post the results of asking the organizations.

Extra Posts (as time allows)Extra: Besides the post schedule listed above, I may also make additional posts as time allows. Some additional ideas are:

InterviewsI may do posts by interviewing people.

I have an interest in interviewing people.

Interviews could be with people in the remote opportunity field

I may also do interviews with people in other areas–just to interview people and learn more about them.

Current topicsDo posts on the remote industry — talk about the current topics in the remote opportunity area.

Hello everyone

Life been busy last few weeks–planning on getting back to posting

I am thinking of doing a series of posts on sources of career information

What sources of career information that are out there that can influence career choice.

The sources of career information may influence the careers one does remotely.

This week we will look at Sources of Career Information: Advertising

Sometimes you may see an advertisement for a career

The advertisement may be in various forms, like an Internet, T.V., or radio advertisement.

And the advertisement could be over a variety of career choices like attorneys, career in the military, or teacher for a school system.

Many times advertisements for career change can come from an employer looking to fill job openings or school advertising people to attend a particular school to get trained to enter a particular career or Internet job board advertising different job positions.

The advertisement designed to create a change (many times), a change in behavior or belief (or sometimes both). The advertisement may present the positive features of that particular a career.

Advise also using other methods besides advertisement when evaluating different careers.

Talk begins 3:09 in the podcast

Thanks for listening

This week we will examine the Small Business Development Centers (SBDC). Small Business Development Centers may be limited to those in the United States.

You may have a dream.

You may have an idea.

You may desire to be your boss.

You may desire to change the world.

You may desire to open your own remote business.

We are continuing our topic of giving information to people interested in starting their own remote business.

We are going to look at Small Business Development Centers.

We talked briefly about Small Business Development Centers in last week’s post.

I like to dive into more details about Small Business Development Centers this week.

Small Business Development Centers advise starting or improving a business.

You can find out the services of a Small Business Development Center by using the Small Business Administration website.

(1) Go to the Small Business Administration website.

Type: sba.gov

You will see the home page of the Small Business Administration.

One link is called “Local Assistance.”

This link is towards the top part of the screen.

Click the “Local Assistance” link.

You will then get a menu under the “Local Assistance” link.

Under the “Resource Partners” column

You will find a link that says “Small Business Development Centers (SBDC)” link.

Click the “Small Business Development Centers (SBDC)” link.

(2) The Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) Screen

You will see the Small Business Development Center screen giving information about Small Business Development Centers.

(3) Find your local Small Business Development Center.

Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) are organized at the local level; I would suggest first exploring the resources of the Small Business Development Center (SBD) at your local level first; many Small Business Development Centers will have their websites; you may find the websites of other local Small Business Development Centers may be helpful to you outside of our local area.

You can find a Small Business Development Center by clicking the “find your local Small Business Development Center” link.

The “find your local Small Business Development Center” link towards the bottom part of the webpage.

Click the “find your local Small Business Development Center” link.

You will then get a “Find Local Assistant” web page.

You can search by zip code to find your local Small Business Development Center.

I did not find other ways to search for Small Business Development Centers.

Search zip codes using Google or another search engine you enjoy using. For this example, I used Google to search for zip codes for New York City.

I choose a zip code for Manhattan using the zip code 10456.

So I type “10456” in the “Business Zip Code” search box.

You will then get a map of the area the zip code corresponds to, in this case, New York City, and you will get choices on the left side of the screen. Some choices will have a “Website” link next to them.

I chose the “New York State Small Business Development Center.” for this example.

I click the “Website” link.

(4) The New York State Small Business Development Center example

You will arrive at the New York State Small Business Development Center web page.

The website address is www.pacesbdc.org.

You can find a variety of choices here; one option is to select a box that says “See All Services” towards the middle of the screen.

Click the “See All Services” box.

You will then get a screen that says “Services” on it.

You can scroll down to see the different services that New York State Small Business Development Center provides.

Expert Help

Experts may help you. You may find an expert who can help you with your business.

To make an appointment with an expert, click the “Meet with a Business Advisor” link.

The “Meet with a Business Advisor” link is in a blue box towards the top part of the screen.

You may have to live in the New York City area to meet with a business expert when using the New York State Small Business Development Center.

You may decide that you are interested in starting your own remote business. You may get help using a Small Business Development Center.

Song: The Star-Spangled Banner - U.S.A

by Ian Post

The music stops at 1:49 in the podcast

This week we look at e-mail subscription newsletters.

E-mail subscription newsletters may help a person looking for remote opportunities.

Here are some ways e-mail subscriptions newsletters can help people:

E-mail subscription newsletter from potential employers

Signing up for e-mail newsletters from potential employers can help you learn more about them. A person may find information on remote opportunities and more information about that potential employer.

Separate Emails for e-mail subscription newsletters

You may sometimes have an email filled with many topics. An example email may include news, a birthday party invitation, local weather, and an employer newsletter. The one problem with many topics going into one e-mail is confusion; you may miss important information with several topics going into one e-mail.

The solution is a separate e-mail

Create a separate e-mail solely for reading email subscription newsletters. You may be less confused in reading emails focused on one topic.

Have too many email subscription newsletters

You may be confused if you have too many email subscription newsletters in one e-mail.

You may benefit from creating separate emails to receive different email subscription newsletters.

And you can divide your emails in different ways that work for you.

Here are some ways you can divide e-mail subscription newsletters for the different emails:

By Geography

  • One email to receive email subscription newsletters from potential employers who are in St. Louis, Missouri
  • One email to receive email subscription newsletters from potential employers who are in San Francisco, California
  • One email to receive email subscription newsletters from potential employers who are in Reno, Nevada

By Profession

  • One email to receive email subscription newsletters from potential employers in the sales profession
  • One email to receive email subscription newsletters from potential employers in the marketing profession
  • One mail to receive email subscription newsletters from potential employers in the lawyer profession.

Create separate emails to organize your different email subscription newsletters.

Job Web Sites

You may also want emails from job websites.

Here are some job websites that may be helpful to you.

Job websites that focus on remote opportunities

Job websites that focus on remote opportunities may help you. Examples can be

  • Virtual Vocations (https://www.virtualvocations.com/) and
  • Flexjobs (https://www.flexjobs.com/).
  • Both Virtual Vocations and Flexjobs have email subscription newsletters that can help the remote job seeker. You can get information including:
  • Remote industry/remote employers
  • Articles on the remote job search
  • Job fairs that specialize in remote jobs
  • Career coaches who focus on remote jobseekers and
  • Inspiration from successful remote job seekers

Job websites that focus on general jobs

Job sites that focus on job positions from a variety of different professions. General job sites may provide information on remote opportunities. Examples can be

  • Indeed.com (www.indeed.com) and
  • Glassdoor.com (https://www.glassdoor.com/).
  • Indeed.com and Glassdoor.com have email subscription newsletters that provide information on remote opportunities.

Email subscription newsletters may help give you your next remote job opportunity.

We look at how to use LinkedIn Posts to find remote opportunities. LinkedIn posts may help you find your next remote career.

Song: Baseball

By: Dani Jalali

The song ends around 2:27

This week we look at LinkedIn.com.

We look at LinkedIn posts.

LinkedIn allows a person to write blog posts.

The blog posts will then appear in a feed that others can read.

A person may write a post about different professional career topics.

One topic a person may write about is different remote opportunities.

A reader may learn about different remote opportunities through LinkedIn posts.

Here are two ways to find out about remote opportunities through LinkedIn posts.

(1) Your Connections and Network–Are you connected with people to have a network? On the Home page, you will find a feed listing different blog posts on LinkedIn.

The blog posts you will often come from other people in your network.

You may increase the odds of seeing remote opportunities by growing your network.

You can invite other people to belong to your LinkedIn network.

You can send out an invitation request.

You may increase the odds of people agreeing to be in your network by including a personal message. Some ideas for the personal message can be:

  • You can communicate how you and the connection are related.
  • Or you could mention details about the person who impressed you.

Including a personal note may increase the odds that a person will connect with you.

You may wish to connect with the following people:

  • Recruiters and Human Resource professionals in the company that interests you
  • Managers in the department in the company that interests you
  • Recruiters and Human Resource professionals from temporary agencies. Look for recruiters that specialize in your field.

(2) Keyword SearchYou may use keywords in the Keyword Search Box to find remote job opportunities on LinkedIn posts.

You may use keywords to find your next remote opportunity.

A keyword search result will, hopefully, present you with different choices.

Each choice will have brief information about the content of that choice.

You then can select that choice to get more information.

You may find search results listing sections.

A section is a group of similar choices in the search results.

Some sections could be:

  • People–choices of different people who have their profiles on LinkedIn
  • Posts–Blog posts people have written on LinkedIn
  • Jobs–Jobs on LinkedIn

Look at the choices in the Posts section.

Hopefully, you will find a choice that interests you.

Click a choice that you like to explore further.

You will then get a description with more information.

Hopefully, you will find some descriptions with remote job opportunities that interest you.

Using the following words in your keyword search may be helpful.

  • The profession you are interested in
  • Remote (or similar words like Virtual)
  • Careers (or similar words like jobs, occupation, or profession)

Boolean SearchingBoolean Searching rules tell your search engine how to search with the words you type in. LinkedIn uses Boolean Search rules.

An article that describes some of the Boolean search options is:

Article name: Using Boolean Modifiers when Searching for Jobs on LinkedIn

Article address: https://www.linkedin.com/help/linkedin/answer/a507571/using-boolean-modifiers-when-searching-for-jobs-on-linkedin

You may find better results by using Boolean search rules.

SynonymsSynonyms are different words that express similar meanings.

You may increase the range of your searches by using synonyms. Some synonyms you can use are:

  • Professions may use synonyms to have different words to describe the profession.
  • You may use synonyms to describe remote work (like using the word virtual).
  • You may use synonyms to describe a career (like using the word opportunities, jobs, or profession).

You may find your next remote opportunity in a LinkedIn Blog post.

By: ANBR

Song ends 2:25

This week we look at Facebook groups.

We look at a feature on www.facebook.com. The next post will be on June 9th.

Always evaluate the resources that you find on the Internet.

Internet descriptions in the article are based on a laptop computer screen.

What are Facebook groups

Groups are where people come together around a particular interest.

You may find Facebook groups that have an interest in remote opportunities.

One way to find Facebook groups is to use the Facebook group search box.

You can do a keyword search to find Facebook groups.

You will need to create an account (which is free) to use many of the resources found on Facebook.

Once you have an account, click the “Groups” icon on the top part of the screen.

Facebook Group Itself

In the group section, you will see a Facebook groups search box on the left side of the screen.

You can type in words in the group search box and then get choice results (hopefully) on the right side of the screen. You can click on a particular choice result to get more information.

You may find three different Facebook groups to be of interest;

(1) Remote-Focused Facebook Groups

You may find Facebook groups focused on remote opportunities.

You can type in terms like “remote,” “remote jobs,” or “remote careers” in a Facebook Search Group Box to search for remote opportunities.

An example of a Remote-Focused Facebook group can be:

Facebook group: Upright Remote Jobs / Work From Home / Work From Anywhere Jobs

Facebook group web address:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/careersremote

(2) Location-Focused Facebook Groups

You may find Facebook groups that focus on giving opportunities in a particular location.

You may find remote opportunities in a particular area.

You can search the name of a particular location in a Facebook Group Search Box and add the terms “jobs” or “career.”

An example of a Location Focused Facebook Group can be:

Facebook group: Las Vegas jobs @ who’s hiring

Facebook group web address: https://www.facebook.com/groups/675294939319449

(3) Professional Focused Facebook Groups

You may find Facebook groups focusing on opportunities in a particular profession.

You may find remote opportunities.

You can type in words of your profession in a Facebook Group Search Box and add the terms “jobs” or “career.”

An example of a Professional Focused Facebook Group can be:

Facebook group: Accounting, Finance Jobs and Training

Facebook group web address: https://www.facebook.com/groups/AccountingFinanceJobsTraining

Search Function Within A Facebook Group

You may find job-related posts within a Facebook group using the search function.

The search function can help you search for posts posted in a Facebook group.

You may display posts that focus on a particular topic.

You may display posts that focus on remote opportunities.

How to find the search function in a Facebook group:

  • Look for the magnifying glass symbol in the upper right corner of the screen.
  • Click the magnifying glass symbol.

(This will open up a small screen with a search box.

You can do a keyword search in the search box to search for posts within that Facebook group).

  • You can type in terms like “remote” and employment terms like “job” or “career” in the search box.
  • Ideally, you will then get a listing of posts having information on remote opportunities.

Google Boolean Search Features For Facebook Groups

You may wish to use Boolean search features when you do a keyword search.

Boolean search features can give you options on how to search for words.

For example, you can do a phrase search with quotes around the word phrase.

Google gives you Boolean search options to find Facebook groups.

Here is an article that gives more information on how to use Google to find Facebook groups.

Article Title: “7 Advance Facebook Search Options.”

Article web address: https://neilpatel.com/blog/facebook-search-operators/

Here is an example of a phase you could type in Google to find Remote Job Facebook groups:

Google the phrase “site:facebook.com group AND remote AND job.”

Facebook groups may help you connect with remote opportunities. You may find your next remote opportunity with Facebook Groups.
