The Strength That PrevailsResilient: Strength That PrevailsJanuary 8, 2023 There’s a popular children’s worship song that came out in the early to mid 70’s. It had fun hand motions, and who doesn’t love a song with fun hand motions? Maybe you remember it... I’ve got a river of life flowing out of me. Makes the lame to walk and the blind to see. Opens prison doors, sets the captives free. I’ve got a river of life flowing out of me. Spring up, o well, within my soul! Spring up, o well, and make me whole. Spring up o well, and give to me, that life abundantly. Now, I don’t know about your Sunday School teachers, but I don’t recall mine ever really taking the time to explain the “river of life.” Where does it come from? Of course, the Sunday School answer is “Jesus” or “God.” And maybe as a kid, I didn’t really care all that much where it came from; it was just fun to jump, hop, and “splish, splash” with my friends as we sang. But if those words are true... then now, as an adult, I want to know more about this supposed river. Because I think for a lot of us, we spend more time feeling dried up, worn out, and weary than we do feeling the rush of a river of life running through us. I’m happy to have enough energy just to get through my day... but according to the song, the river is more than enough for me... it should overflow out of me and transform others! So how and where do we experience this river of life? How do we live abundantly, with more than enough for today, tomorrow, and the next day and to share with others as well? I’m Chris Voigt, Lead Pastor at Dayspring Fellowship in Keizer, Oregon. Over the next five weeks, we will learn how to replenish our reserves and live out of the overflow of hope and peace that we have in Christ, in a new series that we’re calling Resilient: Strength That Prevails. I invite you to join us on Sunday mornings as we gather together to worship and learn how to live out of the supernatural resilience that is available to us through Jesus Christ. Friends, for too long we’ve been running on empty. Let’s learn how to refill our tanks so we can thrive and flourish as God intended us to!
