Artists Soar (TM) is a podcast for artists by 3 artists! We discuss all aspects of being an artist - the good, bad, and the ugly. The goal of each podcast is to provide solutions so artists can focus on creativity and rise above.
In this episode, artists Rachel, Julie, and Stephanie as we chat about networking, what works, doesn't work and ways to find networking events! If you have a question you'd like us to discuss, feel free to email us at hello@artistssoar.com.
Key Talking Points* Networking is about relationships, not just contacts – Focus on building genuine connections rather than just expanding your contact list. * Consider commitment and flexibility in networking groups – While structured groups like BNI offer networking skills, they require a time and financial investment; subbing for members may offer flexibility. * Use diverse networking channels – Explore options like local Chamber of Commerce events or industry-specific gatherings to connect with potential clients outside of traditional networking groups. * Follow up with intention and consistency – Employ the “2-2-2” rule (contacting in 2 hours, 2 weeks, and 2 months as needed) to maintain relationships and be strategic with who you choose to engage. * Fortune is in the Follow Up - When you network always look for golden nuggets to follow up on. * Define your pitch concisely – Practice a 30-second introduction that clearly states who you are, what you do, and who your ideal client is. This clarity helps others easily understand and remember you. * Bring a “networking partner” for confidence – Attending events with a friend or colleague can ease anxiety, boost visibility, and help expand connections more effectively. * Tailor your networking to your audience – Identify events and groups that align with your target clients, such as pet owners for pet portrait artists or outdoor events for landscape artists, to connect meaningfully with those interested in your work.

Welcome to Artists Soar, where we help you rise with your art! In today's episode, we’re diving into a topic every creative struggles with—knowing when to pivot. If you find yourself dreading a task, it might be a sign to shift your direction. But what if it's just a moment to pause, reflect, and realign? So, grab your favorite drink, settle in, and let’s navigate the twists and turns of the creative process together!"
We'd love to hear what worked for you. If you have a question you'd like us to discuss, feel free to email us at hello@artistssoar.com.
Key Talking Points* If you dread doing something, then that's an indication it is time to pivot. * If you enjoy it, keep going, then it is a matter of finding the right audience or redirecting my interest to attract the right audience. * Sometimes it can be a "wait" rather than a "stop", an opportunity to slow down and evaluate to see where you want to go. * There is really isn't a wrong direction, there is a way to correct the course and you won't know until you get to the destination that the turns you took made sense. * Try not to compare, but rather - analyze what is working and use that. Try to be confident, keep your head in your race - not theirs. * Try to have fun in the journey. People are attracted to fun.

Key Talking Points* Stephanie was doing the research: how to fill the gap between being small and the large artists/podcasters to gain income? * The threshold of when to get a Patreon, again, falls to the numbers: you need a lot of fans/followers before it is worth the time and money to do a Patreon. * 2-3% will convert from one platform to the next. So focus on the 1st platform before moving onto another. * The marketing of the Patreon and providing value on Patreon is the equivalent effort to other marketing avenues. * Until, add a donation button to your website, or add a donation button to your newsletter.

In this episode, artists Rachel, Julie, and Stephanie just chat about whether they use or view art as therapy. In Jules' case she didn't turn to art to help her healing. In this episode, artists Rachel, Julie, and Stephanie chat about ways they are staying motivated with specific techniques and mindset that we and others have.
If you have a question you'd like us to discuss feel free to email us at hello@artistssoar.com
Key Talking Points* Sometimes a deadline is motivation - like Jule's advent calendar with coloring pages. check it out here: https://www.juliemstudios.com/day-02 * Going to a group social painting can be motivating! Which is an artist date (taken from Artist Way,) * Take on one thing at a time until it is a habit, then add another. It takes 45 days to make something into a habit (not 21 days). * Set a timer - Pomodoro technique - to stay motivated using a timer to work on x for a certain amount of time. + Stephanie uses Insight Timer App - Workplace - Get Into Focus - Length, then pick the time. * Music can help motivate too! but be respectful of those around you. * The people who succeed are the ones who don't give up. Know what you are doing matters. And proving people wrong. * All "failures" are a learning pivot.

If you have a question you'd like us to discuss feel free to email us at hello@artistssoar.com
Key Talking Points* Stephanie is having an exhibition at Lowe Mill from 11/22 - 2/3/2024. The original concept had evolved, as did I and thankfully Lowe Mill was accepting of this change. + Stephanie's approach to a painting is more subconscious work so she isn't able to create specific pieces for a specific subject. Is that something you can do?

If you have a question you'd like us to discuss feel free to email us at hello@artistssoar.com
Key Talking Points* + What was the #1 thing you wish you would've known? - Not hold myself back due to limiting beliefs or imposter syndrome. + What was your background before you become a digital nomad? - Cat graduated with a dual major and went to work at a local branding/graphic design agency. + Where was the shift to travel and create? - Cat took baby steps to start her travels and slowly developed a network of other digital nomads. + What kind of safety concerns did you have or precautions did you take? - It was a concern in the beginning, but the thoughts are always worse than what actually happens. Take the same precautions you'd take here in the States. - Google the place you are going along with the word "scams". + What are some tips to overcome your fears and imposter syndrome? - Don't self-label yourself. - Take baby steps - like sharing what you are confident about or taking a small trip with a friend(s). As you do it more, you get more comfortable. + What were some of the baby steps you took to get picked up for licensing? - Society6 is one of the industry leaders for Print on Demand. Identify the metrics for success, like money, and the brand power that Society6 has with the search engines. - By saturating Society6 with her work, she is easily found by brands. + What strategy would you recommend to artists now that Society6 is oversaturated? - Try many and see what will work, then focus on the one that works for you. - Consider the audience that the Print On Demand site focuses on. Review the top-selling designs to see if your artwork. + What are some recommended Print on Demand locations you recommend? - See below for the resources + Brand new class - draw animal silhouettes in procreate. + The most popular skillshare class is Procreate for Beginners. - Blooms and Shrooms is the most popular class in 2022. + Do you have any art licensing classes? - Check out the resources below! Lots of fabulous resources.

NEW Artist To Watch Elizabeth lzthcreative.com.
A watercolor artist who is inspired by nature.
Key talking points: * We do have support but it doesn't always feel that way. * Since COVID the spouses have gotten to see what is in an art business - and 'coloring', 'painting' doesn't appear like work. * Community is super important to break down to, support, or bounce ideas with. + With a community, you have to be vulnerable so people can help. + Voice what you need. + Search for groups on Facebook, local art leagues, and local art museum. * If you don't have time here is what we recommend: + Recognize that it is a season and it will change + Identify ways to save time (order groceries)
We'd love to hear what do you to get support, email us at hello@artistssoar.com

Jules, Rachel, and Stephanie discuss how to organize your electronic files - why it is needed and some ideas....get a pen and paper for this one!
Key talking points:
10 Tips to Keep Your Electronic Files Organized During this conversation, we review and discuss the article "10 File Management Tips to Keep Your Electronic Files Organized" article by Susan Ward of "The Balance Small Business" website. Be prepared to giggle at how nutty we are!
Backup your files regularly
3-2-1 rule is 3: Create one primary backup and two copies of your data. 2: Save your backups to two different types of media. 1: Keep at least one backup file offsite.
Cull your files regularly - after Rachel explains what "cull" means - we discuss what files we can remove or archive files. Artists - do not delete reference images.
Order your files for your convenience.
File as you go. Name things properly and apply keywords (Adobe Bridge is a fabulous tool to use)
Be specific in your file naming. Be sure to document HOW you are going to name your files.
Follow the naming conventions. Be sure to document HOW you are going to name your files.
Nest your folders (example: Artwork and subfolder Collection Title/Subject) - we start to nerd out a bit at this point :) 03_Marketing - 03a_Pitches, 03b_Instagram, etc...
Create Folders in a logical structure.
Another example:
Make sure you document the structure that you will have in place. Love the SOPs!
Use the default installation folder drive

Jules, Stephanie, and Rachel talk over art shows and time-wasters for this year and how to stay more focus and on target.
While we had some pains, we did have lessons learned that will helpfully help you. Here are our tips:
Is it a reputable organization. Make sure who you are working with is a reputable company and review its competitors. Julie had a bad experience but the Licensing Expo was a great one.
Know your goals. Evaluate what your future looks like to pick the right things to do for you.
Evaluate the results. Evaluate anything new you try; and see what works and what doesn't work, then adjust.
Focus on 1 thing at a time.
