Providing care to patients with a lens on patients individual needs, values, beliefs and behaviors around the topic of health as it relates to cultural factors is an essential skill to develop as a student. Cultural competence is defined as the ability of providers to understand and integrate various factors related to a patient into the deliver and structure of care provided. In this episode, we will review some of the common strategies to improve provider-patient interactions, effective communication strategies, models for effective cross-cultural communication, and conversation tips for you to use when you are providing care to individuals.
