As we conclude our series in Nehemiah, we might prefer to find a "happily ever after" ending, but we do not. Instead, the people go back on their prior commitments to God's Covenant. Nehemiah returns to Babylon, and while he's gone, corruption spreads, Sabbath is disregarded, and God's instructions about intermarrying with other nations are ignored. But how does Nehemiah respond? What can we learn about our own sin? This ending might discourage us, but as we've already seen, God is "ready to forgive" - and he proved this to us by sending His own Son to die in our place! No matter how much we've failed, the stain of our sin is gloriously eclipsed by the magnitude of Jesus' love for us at the cross.
