In this episode, we spend time with John Rickgarn! John worked in the IT and office equipment field. John realized that job security was not there when his formerly employee-owned company was sold to a private equity firm. John became a real estate agent and started buying small multifamily properties. Now John invests in Real Estate and does private lending.

A bit more about John:

• John lost both his parents to cancer by the time he was 16. Even at this young age, these tragic events led John to start thinking differently about providing for a family and retirement.
• John went to the office equipment sales field. While doing this, John exceeded his quota but that required John to work 60+ hours a week. Nevertheless, John enjoyed what he did and felt like he was in a good place since his company was employee-owned. In 2015, the company was sold to a private equity firm which changed the “tone” of the company to one where the focus was two things, cutting costs and maximizing profit – both at the cost of people.
• Along his journey, John also realized that traditional financial planning is centered around deferring time, money, and experiences for later. with no guarantee that LATER will be there!
• John started buying Real Estate in 2016 when he purchased a 4-plex. John went on to become a Real Estate agent.
• Now John invests in Real Estate, private lending, and other types of investing.
