The Pharisees, in their attempt to disparage Jesus, point out that John the Baptist and his disciples fasted but Jesus’ followers did not. Then, in regard to Sabbath observances, they point out that Jesus’ disciples ate seeds of grain as they walked through the field, which the Pharisees considered forbidden work.
