You may have heard of bridal emergency kits, but have you truly looked into them? No matter if you are the couple to get married, a wedding party member, a family, or a friend, a bridal emergency kit should be a priority when it comes to wedding planning? Why? Because as Murphy's law says, if something can go wrong, it will. You don't want to be caught off guard. What if your dress gets a small hole in it? What if it's 100 million degrees outside? God forbid you forget deodorant! An emergency kit can be the difference-maker of a smooth wedding day and a stressful (or stinky) one.

We know what you might be thinking, no way someone is asking this. Surprisingly, questions like this aren't that rare. Wedding traditions have been drilled in our heads so much that we almost feel like we are breaking some sort of rule if we do something out of order or whatever. Short answer is, it's your wedding day, do what you want, but we dive in deeper in this episode into this question and more.

Do you know the difference between these setups? Should it matter to you? We think so! This was originally supposed to be a Q&A episode but as we discussed this topic prior to recording, we knew this was going to be the debate of the century! No exaggeration either. ;) What table setup should you do? Are there pros and cons of each setup? We go over all that and more in this episode.

In today's off-topic discussion we are talking about the shows we are watching. Last year, let's be honest, we probably all binged more than we would like to admit. Now that things are starting to get back to normal and the busyness of life kicks in, we are probably finding ourselves too busy for TV or maybe our priorities changed a little bit and we just aren't consuming as much. We find ourselves consuming less but we still have a couple of shows we are watching and we are pretty excited to talk about them!

What is the purpose of a wedding party? Are they there simply to have a good time and celebrate with you? If so, what's the difference then between the wedding party and your wedding guests? Shouldn't the wedding party have something that sets them apart aside from just the way they dress? If so, what is it?

We also go over if you should ever ask the couple if it's okay if you bring a plus one. Like many of our conversations lately, we are sticking with some pretty controversial topics of discussion! Oh man, are we becoming those podcasters where we just talk about controversial things? We promise we aren't doing this on purpose. Honestly, we are just researching and listening to what couples are currently talking about and this is one such topic that many have asked about. Storytime, you were close friends in grade school but haven't talked since then, but you remain pretty close on social media. You post your engagement announcement and your friend from grade school comments how excited they are for you and can't wait to celebrate with you. Uh oh... you didn't intend on inviting this person. How do you handle the situation? We talk about this and more in today's episode.

Well, not really, but in the podcast world, you can be whatever you want, am I right? In this Off-Topic episode, Steffen talks about his experience gardening and the methods he uses. In these crazy times, growing your own food is booming right now! So much so, finding heirloom GMO-free vegetable seeds is becoming harder and harder to come by as they sell out so quickly! How can you make sure to grow your own food and not break your back doing it? That's what we talk about in today's episode

Last year affected a lot of weddings. Plans changed, dates were canceled, event centers shut down, some even began to value things a little differently and that's what happened to one couple. They planned their wedding for 2020 and after some time of covid shutdown, their priorities changed. They went ahead with getting married, but in a different way, but now they are stuck with their deposits that secured their larger wedding event. What would you do? Would you proceed with the event even though you're already married? Or would you do what this couple did and go to TikTok to try and sell your wedding?

We aren't going to lie, this episode feels a bit awkward. Who enjoys talking about money? Especially tipping. However, it's a question that is asked frequently. Is tipping wedding vendors normal? If so how much. While we don't get into the specifics of how much with each vendor in this episode, rest assured, we will break down how much to tip each vendor in future episodes. In today's episode, we simply answer the question of whether or not you should tip your wedding vendors.

You guys, we are unpacking some dirty laundry in this episode. This is probably the most uncomfortable episode we've ever recorded but it's a conversation that needs to be had. Why? Because so many couples plan their weddings around what outside influences say they should do and so many times when couples want to do something their own way, family and friends can oftentimes react in a way that leads to stress, hurt feelings, broken relationships, and so on. Come along this journey with us, we laugh and we cringe. It's a roller coaster of emotions this one.

This episode was a fun one. We talked with Tara in season 2 in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. At that time, she was still planning her wedding and having to make tough decisions, just like any bride last year. At the same time, she was documenting her journey through her blog and social media @weddingsintaradise to provide assistance and value for other brides planning their wedding. In this episode, we follow up with Tara to talk about her big day. We talk about everything from the wedding planning to the days following the wedding, including the honeymoon. How did they handle having a wedding in the middle of covid? How did they honeymoon with travel restrictions? Listen to this episode to find out!

This is probably one of our most requested and most talked about topics on this podcast. Both of us are timeline fanatics! A wedding timeline is crucial for the wedding day. It is the very thing that can be the difference between a crazy, hectic wedding and one that is under control, calm, and collected. Granted, it does not ensure a smooth wedding day, but it definitely helps your chances. But how do you create one? We get this question all the time. In this episode, we talk about things to consider when it comes to your timeline. This is part one. In part two, we will create an actual timeline so you can see how it works between a wedding planner and a wedding photographer.

There are so many scenarios to cover, but let us paint a couple for you. You've been dating for 6 months and receive an invite to a wedding? Should you include your significant other on your RSVP? What if there isn't a plus one listed on the RSVP? What if your significant other has never met your family? What if you are a wedding party member and your date doesn't really know anyone at the wedding? What is the best etiquette? Should you bring them? If you don't bring them how should this discussion happen? We go over all this and more in another controversial episode.

What a fun episode this was to record with Dan and Danielle from Put A Ring On It Podcast. Like us, Dan and Danielle are a photographer/planner duo who wanted to bring value to the wedding industry through podcast form. There is so much noise out there when it comes to planning your big day, how are you supposed to know what to do? From family members to Pinterest, oftentimes these resources that are there to help can actually be a hindrance to our planning. In this episode, we talk about how to make your wedding day your own and while outside opinions and ideas can be great, we also talk about ways to say no to those as well. Additionally, how do you handle family members or guests who might be overreaching on your wedding day and trying to control too much of it? We go over that too.

Sure, it may be accepted or even encouraged at some weddings. We've all seen the videos of engagements happening at a wedding, but just because you can, should you? In this episode, we talk about that as well as if you should get engaged on major holidays as well. We get it. You're surrounded by loved ones, or the atmosphere is prime for love, but should you still do it? You may be surprised at what we have to say about this.

Yes, we are nearly a week late to the party. Someone dropped the ball on editing this video and posting it. We aren't in the game of blaming people, but whoever is responsible, HE is surely sorry for not posting sooner. :P

That said, here we are in 2021! How thankful are we that 2020 is over?! However, that doesn't mean that the troubles and stress of 2020 are over and in this quick bonus episode we talk about the next year and what we can expect and we make some predictions.

Covid has affected so much when it comes to wedding planning. From the number of guests there to shutdowns to uncertainty, what are you supposed to do? One of the most popular things we have seen with weddings in 2020 has been the splitting of the wedding day. By this we mean, the ceremony may take place on the original day and the reception takes place at a later date. Some will even do a one-year vow renewal on the second day. However, what a lot of couples are finding out is that the second event is still being affected by covid gathering restrictions. Is it worth the stress, effort, and money to plan a second day when it may look no different than the first day? How far in advance do you plan it? We talk about that and more in this bonus in-between seasons episode.

Dollar dances are sort of a thing of the past, but they are still pretty frequent events in smaller rural areas. They are at least popular enough that major wedding websites have a few tips on how to make them better. Today is another episode where we aren't making friends, but we are here to bring you all the wedding information we can and sometimes that means having tough conversations. Should you or shouldn't you do a dollar dance? Why or why not? We dive into all of the juicy details in this episode

It's halloween and we thought the perfect way to podcast on this weekend is by telling scary wedding stories. HA! Kidding... well sort of. In today's episode we talk about some things that we've experienced with weddings that might seem pretty scary. We cannot stress this enough, we are not bad mouthing these weddings or couples, not at all. The fact of the matter is that these things actually happened and we are simply presenting them for future couples to keep in mind when it comes to their wedding day. A thing or two may go wrong on your wedding, but it doesn't mean it has to ruin the entire day. Tune in to see what we mean.

Let's be honest, insurance probably isn't the thing you dream about when imagining your perfect wedding day, right? However, making sure you're covered from event insurance all the way to life insurance is such an important conversation to have prior to getting married. You want to make sure in the event of an emergency, you are covered. To experience loss and then find out you aren't covered would be such a tragedy. In this episode, Jeanine Blankenship brings her experience both from dealing with tragedy and providing insurance.

Is a wedding timeline really that important? The short answer... YES! It is extremely important. You've spent months, maybe even years planning your wedding day, spending thousands of dollars, the only chance the wedding day has to being exactly what you planned it to be is if you have a wedding timeline. We talk about the benefits of a timeline as well as our personal thoughts on it in today's episode.

It seems like an end to all the lockdowns and restrictions is never going to come but at some point, it will. When it does, though, things will certainly change and because this is a podcast on all things weddings, we are looking into the future of weddings after covid. We have to know that things will never be the same with weddings, and honestly, that's not a bad thing. Where we are located, it's not unusual to have a 400-800 person wedding. In fact, the higher number is more common than smaller intimate weddings. Due to covid, though, smaller more intimate weddings are becoming the norm and to be honest, we are kind of a fan of this. We talk about this and so much more in terms of post-covid wedding themes.

It sounds harsh, but it's true! Think about any wedding you've ever attended or been a part of, chances are the things you remember most are the reception, right? Now, think about the music, the atmosphere, the dancing (or lack thereof), the DJ's personality, there is probably a good chance you remember all the details surrounding the DJ, but not so much about the flowers, the dress, if there was an aisle runner or not, right? A good DJ will make for a GREAT reception and a bad DJ, well, you get the point. In this episode, we are focusing on the great part because Complete Weddings + Events are just that... GREAT! Both Katie and Steffen have years of experience of working with Complete and one thing we both agree on is that any reception the Complete is a part of is going to be a great reception! Jordan and Libbi join us today to talk about the wedding DJ and everything Complete has to offer.

It's probably not something we think about too much before the big day, right? I mean, it's not a fun thing to talk about when compared to the wedding dress, the rings, the venue, flowers, and so on. However, it's an important decision to make because prior to your ceremony, it is vital that you eat. What foods should you have and what foods should you absolutely avoid? We talk about that and more in this episode. Madalaine McDaniel with Lakeside Table joins us to talk about pre-wedding food.

In this episode, we review the newly released Netflix movie, "Love Wedding Repeat" starring Sam Claflin and Olivia Munn. You'll notice we have reviewed a couple of movies during this quarantine time, but Father of the Bride and Meet the Parents are two older movies, we wanted to do something a little more modern that more people might have access to. Love Wedding Repeat is a different sort of romantic comedy with lots of twists and turns, but also a movie that makes you ask why or wonder what just happened. Check out this episode to hear our thoughts on it as well as some thoughts we had in regards to wedding planning and this movie.

As a part of our Wedding Movie Showdown last month, Meet the Parents was the runner-up behind Father of the Bride. We decided to review Meet the Parents. The movie released 20 years ago... that's so crazy to think about, any of my other 30-somethings out there blown away that this movie released two decades ago?!! Fortunately, it's just as funny as it was the first time watching it, although some of the jokes are clearly dated compared to today's more socially conscience jokes. While this movie isn't necessarily a "wedding movie" it does involve a wedding, a relationships, and an engagement. Meet the Fockers would probably be more of a wedding movie than this one, but this one is a classic meeting the in-laws movie. What can we learn from this movie? What are some takeaways for brides, grooms, and parents? We talk about that and more in today's episode.

You are engaged and typically the next step is to book your venue. Venues are usually the first thing booked for any wedding, but the big question is, what venue do you book? Perhaps you've had one on your mind for a while, but it's capable of holding 500+ people and your wedding only has 125. This is something to consider because 125 guests in a 500+ person event hall isn't going to look right. Or maybe it's the other way around. However, do you know an idea of what your guest list might be? You don't need to know 100% how many will be coming to your wedding, but chances are you might have an idea. Start with the guest list size and then go on to some of the other items we discuss when it comes to booking your venue.

What a unique time in human history we are living through right now. Uncertainty, questions, fear are all surrounding the issue of COVID-19 and how to respond to it and what to do about it. If you are planning a wedding and your date is coming up, what should you do? How should you respond? Should you cancel, postpone, leave the date? We talk about this in today's unique episode. Because of the current quarantine we are in, Katie was unable to join Steffen in the studio. Our studio is at Steffen's house. However, because of our equipment upgrade earlier this year and having the ability to take phone calls, Katie was able to call in and provide value as if it's any other podcast. While she may sound a little different in the recording, the value is still the same. We are truly in this together. From delays in wedding planning to restaurants closing for a while, to photography being put on hold, and even podcast episodes not being able to happen in the studio as usual. We are going through this together, but pulling together is how we can come out of this better than before.

We are going a little off the wedding planning train in this episode, however, not only do home buying and wedding planning share a lot of the same thoughts, frustrations, stresses, and excitement, but they oftentimes go along with wedding planning. Maybe you are engaged and you found the dream home to get started in as you two get married. Or maybe you recently got married and you are ready to take another big step together and find a home. Whatever the case may be, while home buying doesn't have anything to do with wedding planning per se, the similarities and timing make this a relevant topic to discuss. It's a genre that's been a part of Hollywood probably forever... the wedding. Whether it's over the top extreme, such as The Hangover, or simple and realistic (with the right budget), such as Father of the Bride, wedding movies have been a hot item in the film industry for a very long time. Understandably too, because it's an experience that many people can relate to. We talk about our favorite wedding movies in this episode. We made it a little extra fun by not letting the other know what was on our list, and surprisingly, we don't have very many of the same movies!

We all have those must-haves that we want to hear the night of our big day, but I'm sure most of us can agree that we can more easily come up with those must not play songs, am I right? Working in the wedding industry for years, we've heard songs over and over, we've seen how people react to songs, as well as participated in some of the dancing of those songs. This is a fun one! We have a married couple on the show with us today. More importantly, they brought up some pretty great points for other engaged couples when it comes to planning your wedding. This is one episode you won't want to miss. We may start a series called "A Rant." We'll see where it goes in the future but we all have those times where it feels good to just get something off your chest, right? That said, this episode isn't necessarily a rant through and through. Ultimately, we want to bring value to your wedding planning or attending lives. In this episode, we break down the different types of dress codes for weddings and what each code means. Depending on your location, a lot of these terms mean different things. For example, for us being in rural Midwest, the term "casual" when it comes to formal dress codes mean something entirely different than what casual means in regards to formal wedding codes. If one were to mark "casual" on their wedding invitations, they would probably have a lot of guests in shorts and t-shirts! For this reason, we bring this episode on dress codes, but as mentioned above, we do rant a little on some of our annoyances with the clothing options that are chosen for the wedding day. It should make for some entertaining listening.

While we do not review all 20 trends The Knot lists, we do discuss a handful of them and provide some entertaining opinions as to why we do or do not like or agree with the listed trends.
