Broadway Junction 1 / Intro / Van Sinderen Main Entrance Platform / We begin inside the cavernous main platform of the Broadway Junction with a dense array of sounds filling the stereo field / As crowds of people pass by, the most prominent noises are coming from the three story escalators around the corner, creaking and groaning like a cross between an injured flamingo and a tuba sample / Even closer are a bank of turnstiles, beeping incessantly as people swipe their MetroCards and hurry to their train / This particular corner of the platform allows for a wall of slightly distant sound sources to be equally present without any single one dominating the mix / A stream of smaller sounds colors the mix and allows us to adjust where we focus our attention / From a woman thanking the ticket officer for allowing her through, to an incoming L train announcement, repeat listens reveal the micro-sounds omnipresent in a bustling transportation hub //
