‘Uhila focuses on live performance, and he takes inspiration from his daily life – drawing people close into his perspectives and experiences of the world. This means ‘Uhila is sometimes invisible, disguised or inaccessible.

He then went on to do his Master's thesis, which explored time in social structures and relationships. He called his thesis Maumau-taimi: Wasting Time; Being Useless which looked at perspectives of wasting time and time well wasted.

Kalisolaite ‘Uhila also a finalist in the 2014 Walters Prize.

Other creatives honoured by the Arts Foundation were visual artist and Māori art educator Dr Sandy Adsett, novelist and writer Joy Cowley, and actor Sam Neill.
