The Apostles lived in the time of the Roman Empire. Their experience of civil government was far different than ours. Even so the Apostle Paul at times took advantage of his Roman citizenship. As Americans we have freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Like Paul we are to use these freedoms to proclaim the Gospel of Christ. The New Testament presents the fact that as Christians we have dual citizenship, Philippians 3:20.
