Since the release of Stable Diffusion I keep experimenting with image synthesis. For this, i wrote a few python scripts to generate one thousand prompt variations featuring various modifyers and artists to generate anything i like in hundreds of styles, to various success.
I now know what Batman would look like if painted by a good chunk of art history and despite the ethical concerns, I’m having a blast with this. I also think that you can view the completeness of Stable Diffusions latent space as one giant artwork in which we are just the explorers, looking at the strange and weird new ways in which a statistical model can look at art, and interpret textual input based on that view.
𝚛𝚊𝚠𝚡@sigmoid.social @rawxrawxrawSomeone should put the 4.2GB Stable Diffusion model on a USB-Stick and tape it on a wall at Art Basel.6:22 AM ∙ Sep 20, 2022Using some scripts to generate volumes of prompts and bulk generating any subject in the style of anyone is a technique that makes it possible to get an idea of that vast piece of art that is latent space, to explore ‘a black circle on a white background’ painted by any artist in history.
One of my favorite outcomes of this came from the prompt endless garden full of fractal plants and gras and trees and flowers, black and white line drawing, plotter aesthetics, very fine line, art by ###artist###, very detailed, hd octane rendering, trending on artstation.
All of the generated images were interesting, a few are just gorgeous to look at: Strange fractal flora on alien planets. I uploaded more than six hundred of those into an album on Google Photos, below some favorites.
Image Synthesis and AI surely for me have been the central story of the year, and I’m very sure it will continue to evolve in unexpected, surprising ways in the years to come.
