In the first of a two-part series with Samantha Jarvey from Heritage Financial Strategies, we cover the importance of talking to your kids about money.
Sam has kids of her own, and with her oldest, she's using the jar approach. She's teaching her daughter about saving, spending, even investing. Why do it now? Because kids' ideas around money are formed by age 7! And they pick things up from us, good and bad.
However, teaching and learning don't end at age 7. We also cover how to talk to pre-teens and teens about money. What habits can we teach them? When are credit and debit cards appropriate? Sadly, we have a real financial literacy problem in this country. Fixing it starts with us.
