A person was killed in an elephant attack in the Karadiyanaru area in Batticaloa last night (20), the Karadiyanaru police said.

The deceased has been identified as 42 year old Siriram Jeeva, a resident of Komacholai junction, Karadiyanaru.

Wild elephants entered the town last night and smashed coconut trees, killing one person in the area.

The body has been handed over to the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital for autopsy and the Karadiyanaru Police are conducting further investigations.
