Of the 88 coronavirus samples, 84 were genetically tested and 84 were found to have delta virus strain from 88 coronavirus samples obtained from various parts of the country, including Colombo.

This was stated by Dr. Chandima Jeewandara, Director, Department of Immunology and Molecular Medicine, Sri Jayawardenepura University.

As a result, the number of people infected with the delta virus in Sri Lanka has risen to 201.

Previously, 117 delta infections were detected from various parts of the island.

The delta affected people in Matale, Ratnapura, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, Vavuniya, Maharagama, Malabe and Gampaha.

Three types of corona virus have recently been detected in Sri Lanka.

Chandima Jeevandara also said that this is the first time in the world that three mutations have been identified simultaneously.

This type of delta was discovered in the Colombo area and is likely to develop into a new type in the future.

He noted. Changes of this type are still being explored.
