The Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a group involved in drug trafficking and sale in the Batticaloa district and seized several lakhs worth of drugs from them.

The siege was carried out by the Kaluwanchikudi Special Task Force based on information received this morning.

The Kalladi house under the Kattankudy police division was raided this morning and 300 grams of ice and 15 grams of heroin were recovered from it and Rs. 250,000 along with a car and a motorcycle used for drug trafficking were recovered.

More than 38 lakh rupees worth of drugs have been recovered, the Special Task Force said. According to the Special Task Force (STF), the Kalmunai police also raided a drug store in Kalmunai and seized 10 grams of heroin.

The Special Task Force (STF) said that three people, including a woman, had been arrested during the siege and that they had been involved in drug trafficking through contacts with major drug dealers in Colombo.

During the siege, sub-inspectors from the Kaluwanchikudi Special Task Force, Bandara UD Jayawardena, Special Task Force personnel Priyankara, Nishantha, Alawathugoda, Padnami, Bandara, Ratnayake, Pathiratha, Bhaktepadana, Jayasinghe, Upadhyay and Madhunga were arrested.

The arrested persons have been detained at the Kattankudy Police Station and steps are being taken to produce them in court and the Kattankudy Police are conducting further investigations.
