Foreign Minister Jeevan Thondaman has said talks are underway to strengthen the Labor Ordinance so that the children of plantation workers cannot be enslaved.

And plans to bring in new laws to punish parents who allow their children to be employed, as the Labor Ordinance 100 years ago is still in force. Jeevan Thondaman said that despite the economic problems in the families of plantation workers, employing children was not the answer.
