Majuli Island in India was once a flourishing oasis of wildlife until people began cutting down large numbers of its trees. In a short period of time, the land became barren. One resident, Jadev Payeng, was deeply saddened at the site of his once lush paradise of vegetation and wildlife now diminished to a veritable wasteland. As his villagers lamented the fate of their land, Jadev took it upon himself to do something productive.
