In chapter four we see the fullness of a stubborn and hateful man. Jonah seems to be filled with so much bile that he despises his own existence. At one point his responses to God are almost indignant. After a mighty miracle of repentance, seeing grace poured out in a flood over an entire city, this man is bitter. His hatred of the people of Nineveh kept him from enjoying his own God. We are on a mission of reconciliation as Christ's ambassadors. But in order to fulfill this mission, we have to love those who God loves, forgive our enemies, swallow pride, and in humility, consider others better than ourselves.
