Episode Recap Six tips for Creatives about cross networking inspired by San Diego Start Up Week. Including: Raising money, selling yourself and making connections.

1. How to test your ideas to see if they work This is important before jumping into an idea, especially if you have a million!

  • Focusing on your user and what they need
  • Outlining the experience you want them to have
  • Building the experience you want them to have
  • Testing that experience

2. Ways to collect feedback about your product or service Getting feedback can be so tough, it takes time away from people that they don’t want to give. Once you do:

  • Ask unbiased questions. How good do you feel after listening to the podcast? Vs What are your feelings after listening to this podcast?
  • Being clear in your communication about dates, times, timezones

3. Insight on how to raise money for your idea Before you start to raise money you’re going to need to things

  • Good relationships
  • A very clear idea of what you need the money for, how you are going to use it and of course how it’s going to benefit the person lending it to you.

The importance of the pitch – This is a need that spans multiple industries in this world, as in many, it’s all about how you tell the story

  • Have clean visuals
  • Get to the point
  • Use metrics

4. Begin to understand industry lingo I’ve heard it said explain things without using “jargon”, usually for presentations and such, but I feel that this is so untrue! You need to know the jargon that your audience speaks. For instance:

  • Venture capitalist
  • Start Up
  • MVP
  • Co founder

5. Listen to needs and problems others have in regard to design Not just from those who aren’t designer but form those who are

  • A place where businesses can learn what type of design their audience expects to see
  • How to use the pen tool efficiently

6. Make connections Again this can happen inside and outside of your field. Everyone has something unique to offer and you never know where a conversation will lead.

  • Be nice
  • Don’t be shy
  • Try not to get offended

Main Take away: Think bigger * Make a global impact * Grow your skillset, go outside your field to discover opportunties * Get a team to come along with you
