United Nations Career Opportunities – informal discussion held on October 17, 2007 at Soka University’s Pauling Hall between Model United Nations students from south Orange County high schools and Anwarul K. Chowdhury, who was the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States from 2003 to June 2007, and Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York from 1996-2001. Chowdhury served as President of the Security Council, President of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Executive Board and as Vice-President of the UN Economic and Social Council. He is currently the Chairman of the International Institute for South Asian Affairs of New York. Chowdhury is the recipient of the U Thant Peace Award and UNESCO Gandhi Gold Medal for Culture of Peace.
