This may potentially be a sensitive topic. It may also motivate you to take a closer look at things, and behaviors. It may also, in what Christian terms call, convict you a little bit…

I have regularly attended and served in church for many years now. I have held a variety of leadership positions in a few different denominations and non-denominational churches. We all make mistakes, experience regrets, and fail. Therefore, so do churches. So does that mean you continue at a church when you realize it is broken? Or that the message is not sound, or biblical? Do you continue to give of your time, talents and treasure all the while realizing that the Holy Spirit is convicting you to speak up about it?  Of course not. Allow me to share these 7 signs it may be time to respectfully address it, proactively change it, or move on.

DEVOTIONAL || 1 Corinthians 12:12-27 || Many Parts but One Body...

“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves[d] or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but of many. If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts,[e] yet one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” - 1 Corinthians 12:12-27

I adore being in community with others of faith. It is also biblical to gather, learn, worship, serve, grow in church, while taking that knowledge out to share it. All in an effort to make disciples whom make disciples. However, there is no perfect church, as there is no perfect person. We are all sinners saved by grace. We all make mistakes, experience regrets, and fail. Therefore, so do churches. So does that mean you continue at a church when you realize it is broken? Or that the message is not sound, or biblical? Do you continue to give of your time, talents and treasure all the while realizing that the Holy Spirit is convicting you to speak up about it, or proactively make efforts to change it? Of course not. Allow me to share these 7 signs it may be time to respectfully address it, proactively change it, or move on.

1.) If your church spends more time and money trying to entertain you and become more of a Social Club than a biblical sound teaching and leading church, that may be a problem and a sign.

2.) If your church invests a majority of it’s messages being critical or making fun of other denominations, church’s, Christians, or those in our out of church, that’s likely a problem and a sign.

3.) If your church prefers to mass market and advertise what they do for their city, the country, others countries; while they have members or regular attendees unable to afford necessities due to loss, illness or injury while sobbing alone in the corner or back pew of the church, that’s likely a problem and a sign.

4.) If your church says to you that they do not want you at, in or be involved at their church if you are not committed to tithing or going above tithing, that is likely a problem and a sign.

5.) If leadership cannot accept constructive criticism by wise members of their congregation, or regular attendees, and seem to become quickly defensive, or retaliate in words, gossip, rumors or worse by actions, then that’s most likely a problem and a sign.

6.) If your children, who normally love and have been nearly raised in church, begin to feel uneasy, not even wanting to attend your church’s children’s church, then that may be a problem and a sign.

7.) If chronic gossip, back biting, or unmerited / unnecessary favoritism is occurring, or regularly acceptable, especially by leadership, then something is very broken, that’s a problem and a sign.

If this post is making you uncomfortable, maybe “cringe”, or you are experiencing most of these rather often, then its most likely time to respectfully address it, make immediate efforts to proactively change it, or expeditiously move on.

If you would like to read bible references to any of these, please feel encouraged to ping me.

I just would to express something; please keep in mind that brick and mortar doesn’t make a church, people do. People can also divide or break a church too.

You may hold a church service anywhere at any time. At a coffee shop, on a park bench, on a motorcycle, online, in your living room, on your back deck… And we all should and need to attend church, please see my article at this link: https://purposeprinciplespassion.com/2020/05/20/3502/

Some churches or denominations and “Boards of Elders” and/or “Deacons” do not get this. It is the gathering of believers seeking knowledge, wisdom, repentance, to learn, serve, grow, get equipped and go out to make to Disciples whom make Disciples. Granted we need the biblical organization and storehouses as described in the bible. However, NEVER forget people are the church!

I personally have been a Deacon, an Elder, a Church Treasurer, a Sunday School Teacher, a Missionary, a Ministry Leader of multiple ministries, a Pastors “right hand man”, and been involved in church for a very long time. Church was never meant to be a museum for saints, artifacts, fancy worship theatrics, craft coffee, man made doctrine, human bureaucracy, clicks, favoritism of the whom has and whom has not, for whom tithes more and whom tithes less, whom has recognized talents and whom does not, whom may have a certain social class and connections and whom does not. We are all human, we all bleed the same, and we are all sinners only saved by grace.

We are to love others to the cross by our Godly wisdom, not of our human flesh. We are to love the hell out of others with empathy, love, mercy and grace. It is not about organized religion, or being adhered to a man made doctrine or denomination. It is about building, delivering, or sending a hospital for sinners, and we are all sinners, to love others, accept them, and walk along side them to lead them to the cross and an understanding of what a relationship with Jesus Christ is all about. To have Jesus as our example to strive to be like. To speak, lead, serve, teach, and love like Jesus. And to me it is not longer the acronym of WWJD (What Would Jesus Do), it should be DWJD, (Do What Jesus Did).

I’m not perfect here, by far. I’ve made mistakes, I’ve failed and offended. But I have learned a bit along the way and read, feel, believe with both head and heart knowledge that I know what the Gospel says after over 30+ years reading. studying, and humbly trying to mold it into my life; while being involved in church more than half my life; that more than not a lot of churches simply do not get it.

Bro 24" shares another miracle in this Miracles Series with miracle number three: "I believe there are Angels among us..."

"Throughout Scripture, we see numerous instances in which angels were an integral part of God’s plan. One verse alludes to the possibility of angels walking among us today: “Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it” (Hebrews 13:2).

The obvious reference is to Abraham, whose angelic visitors appeared to him as men (Genesis 18). There are dozens of scriptural examples of angelic encounters, so we know that God can and does use angels to accomplish certain things. What we don’t know for sure is how often angels allow themselves to be seen by people. Here are the basics about angels from the Bible: angels can instruct people (Genesis 16:9), help people (Daniel 6:22), deliver messages to people (Luke 1:35), appear in visions and dreams (Daniel 10:13), protect people (Exodus 23:20), and help carry out God’s plans. We know that God created angels, and He uses angels in His plan. Angels have a sense of individuality, as some have names (such as Gabriel and Michael) and all have different responsibilities within the angelic hierarchy. But do they walk among us? If God so chooses to use them in His custom-made plans for us, yes, they absolutely can walk among us doing God’s will. Angels are mentioned in Genesis and in Revelation, and they witnessed the creation of the world (Job 38:7). God has used His heavenly host from the beginning of time and will still use them at the end of time, according to Scripture. It is quite possible that many people today have met or seen an angel without realizing it. If angels do walk among us, it is because they are serving a God-ordained purpose. The Bible mentions demons who wander the earth with no purpose other than to destroy (Matthew 12:43–45). Satan and his demonic force can probably appear physically, much like holy angels can. Satan’s purpose is to deceive and kill. Satan “masquerades as an angel of light” (2 Corinthians 11:14). An important note: angels are not to be glorified or worshiped (Colossians 2:18). They are entities who carry out God’s will, and they refer to themselves as “fellow servants” with us (Revelation 22:9). Regardless of whether we actually experience angelic encounters, the most important thing is that we experience salvation through Jesus Christ. He is beyond all angels and all humans, and He alone is worthy of worship. “You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you” (Nehemiah 9:6)." ~ Source: "Got Questions" gotquestions.org

On this Devotional, Bibbers joins "Bro 24" once again for a devotional from Faith It Daily Devotional titled "God Heals Your Broken Heart"

"What do you do with your broken heart? What happens when you’re stuck and afraid and unsure of what to do next? It’s interesting how we so quickly want to fix things when they break — especially when it’s something as personal and intimate as our hearts. But I think, sometimes, in our deep desire to fix all that is broken, we forget what opportunity it might bring to increase our faith. And to be honest, I don’t know how to patch up a heart but it might not be about patching up anything at all. Because I don’t think hearts don’t get broken [by] accident. I think hearts get broken because God is so sure that something trapped inside needed to get out so that something so much better can pour in. But it’s also not something we can ignore. Pain demands that we pay attention to it. How do you tangibly bring life back to your lifeless heart? Choose what you KNOW over what you FEEL. Memorizing what Truth says in Scripture can be one of the best ways to combat the enemy’s sneaky ways and how he twists heartbreak to become so divisive and personal. When you begin to say, “I feel lonely…” or, “I feel depressed,” remember that feelings are fleeting but truth is unchanging. Identify when you begin to feel the weight of a lie that says something like, “You’re unlovable,” or “You’re going to die alone,” and replace it with what you KNOW. When you diligently work to memorize what TRUTH says, you’ll be armored up to stand against the lies that heartbreak can sometimes let seep in. Heartbreak can be a vulnerable place to be and while it’s good to be vulnerable with the Lord, you have to put on the armor of God or you’re also going to be open to attacks from the enemy. The enemy tries to play on our weakness but God can display His power through it.

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” - 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Don’t just mope around expecting time to heal your heart. Time doesn’t heal your heart, Jesus does. In the midst of this season of healing and finding purpose in the pain, don’t overlook the importance of standing on the Rock of Truth when you feel like you’ve been shaken to the core:

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.” - Ephesians 6:10-11

"Dear God, thank you that you have equipped me with your Truth to fight the storm of feelings in my broken heart. I know that you are my Healer and my Comforter. In Jesus’ name, amen."

“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.” - Psalm 34:18

Bibbers joins "Bro 24" again for today's Video Group Devotional that we have titled, "Repentance, Redemption, Restoration from Job 42:1-17

"It’s striking that God does not accuse or condemn Job in his speech. Job has done nothing wrong. There was no reason for Job's misery; it is not a punishment from God. The viewer in the theater has had a glimpse of heaven in which Satan has challenged God, but the unfortunate man never received that and will never know it. There is no reason for the misery, no sin that is the cause of it and that should be solved or forgiven. Job eventually finds peace in his misery. That is not only when everything is straightened out again, not until healing has come, but there, already in his misery. Besides that, if the Lord is enraged with anyone, then it is with Job's talkative friends who had sound theories and theologies, who could explain everything about how the Almighty works. Job must pray for his friends so that God will be merciful. That is another unexpected turn! In a short epilogue in the book of Job, everything seems to be restored again. The book is finished. Job again receives new wealth and status and prestige. God has been good to him. Yet it is not good until everything has been restored and health, wealth and prosperity have been given. It was good already in the misery. It feels like this old book (the book of Job is seen as the oldest story in the Bible) has a lot to say about us now. It is perhaps a cure for the Western discomfort around the theme of suffering. The message of faith is not that there must be a reason for suffering. The message of faith is not that there is always a solution. The message of faith is certainly not a theater of healing. The book Job is also an encouragement, to be honest with God. You can apparently go so far that you totally disagree with God. But, you certainly get this if you read the book of Job carefully; you have to be on your guard when you think you understand everything about the Lord God Almighty. In the old church, Job is also seen as a type of the suffering Christ who had to learn patience, who took suffering in silence. Followers of Christ will also be followers of the suffering Christ, cross-bearers. And they wait in patience for the Lord. Not until they understand it, but until they hear the word of God themselves. In the end, Job is also a book of hope. Everything will be fine. Not as a reward, not because Job has done a good job and passed an exam, but because God straightens everything out. The reasons are not made clear. Probably because there is no reason at all."

"Give Raw Emotions All The Space To Speak Out!”

"What would you do if your whole life was destroyed, right before your eyes? If you lost everything and everyone that you love? If you lost your dignity, your possessions, and your health?

Meanwhile, you are still looking at a grand theater that almost takes your breath away. Have you ever let your tears run, by seeing so much misery that can happen to a person? It's allowed. Job's friends didn’t know what to say about it. And despite everything, Job did not sin. He did not curse God and, in spite of everything, he accepts the evil that falls on him. But apparently, God is not there for him to fix the grief and misery. Job accepts his fate.

That is not to say that the faithful and righteous Job simply takes everything as it is. As soon as he starts speaking, he curses the day of his own birth. He cannot stop the thought that it would have been better if he had never lived in the first place. Job spits out his bitterness with artful words.

Let the day perish on which I was born,

and the night that said,

‘A man is conceived.’

Let that day be darkness!

May God above not seek it,

nor light shine upon it.

(Job 3: 3-4)

This is also the righteous Job. He curses the day he was born. He would have preferred to be stillborn. Death is suddenly a comforting thought. Bitter are his words.

I am not at ease, nor am I quiet;

I have no rest, but trouble comes.

(Job 3:26)

Does misery happen to you? Give the raw emotions all the space to speak out! And do you have a neighbor to which all this happens? Create a space for them to throw everything out. It is not a sin.”

On today's FAITH in FIVE, "Bro24" shares a testimonial on his first experience with a miracle first hand. A miracle bestowed upon him by the prayer of a school teacher in the 2nd grade.

“Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.” - James 5:14-16

People have asked me most of my life where I get my energy, determination, and drive from. I was a rather active or some may say, hyper-active teenager, young adult, and often even now at my age. They have also asked me how have I bounced back from adversity, some very tragic events, trauma, near death experiences, and what most would call dire circumstances. Some have even said that they couldn’t even fathom it, and did not think they could have, or most anyone could have. Some have asked how I got the nickname “Twenty Four” or “Bro 24”.

The answer to all of those questions would take some time to write out, explain, and expound upon. I have several writings, & videos that begin to outline it all that may be found at PurposePrinciplesPassion.com, my YouTube Channel, Podcast, and Blog. However, short and simple, other than the love of a very small circle of true non-fair weather Christian friends, and the love of my children, it was and is The Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

So for those positive peeps, those whom have and continue to persevere, what is your reason, your Ikigai? Where do you get your energy, drive, and determination? Tell me your story. Tell others your story, and join me as a guest on Saturday Sit Down.

Bibbers joins "Bro24" on this morning's devotional, DEVOTIONAL, "Know God" from Hosea 6 3 from the Faith Daily Devotional

"Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.” - Hosea 6:3

"Do you not feel God? You’re not alone. Many heroes of the faith felt very distant from God most of their lives, including the author of most of the Psalms, King David. He wrote, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” Words which would be repeated by Jesus as He withered on the cross. The best advice I can give is to keep learning about God. Keep reading the Word and filling your mind with Him. The act of these disciplines will eventually reorient your desires toward Him, and even though they are not glamorous or even fun, your emotions will follow.

" 'The ruts of routine become the grooves of grace.' ”

"The things you fill your head with will eventually trickle down into your heart; your emotions will be affected by what you put in your mind. There’s no way they can’t be! So don’t try to rush it. I would argue that wisdom doesn’t attempt to conjure up a false emotional experience, but simply remains faithful and lets the emotion come when the time is right. Different views of our beautiful God will choke you up and tug on your heart, but one thing is true across the board: You won’t reach these deep places with Him if you’re not filling your mind with His words and orienting your life toward Him. It will come in time. So may we be people who pursue God, not an emotional high. May we be people who see God working in all areas of our lives, especially many of the mundane and unglamorous nooks. May we be comforted by knowing that He is not simply an emotion to be conjured up at will, but He is a person; a Father who wants to walk the journey of our lives with us. And that means that there will be a lot of long stretches of road without emotion or hype, just many, many trudging footsteps.

Dear God, I want to press on to know You deeply and fully. In Jesus’ name, amen."

On this Wednesday morning's group devotional we talk about James 4:15-17, and have titled today's devotional; "If the Lord wills, and we do what is right..."  “Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and do this or that.” As it is, you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.” - James 4:15-17

Today's FAITH in FIVE is titled, "Submit to God, resist the devil to flee, and speak no evil" from  James 4:12-17.  Today I am visiting Medlar Conservation Bike Trail while sharing the video.  "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.  Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. 12 There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?" - James 4:12-17 ESV

We met again this past Wednesday morning for another Group Devotional recorded live on James 3:3-6, titled "Your small tongue can set a blaze..  "If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well. Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell." James 3:3-6 ESV

Today's video devotional is being shared from Cox Arboretum Metro Park  in West Carrollton, OH. It is titled, Run the race with perseverance

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,  let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and  let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to  Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was  set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at  the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from  sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary  or fainthearted." - Hebrews 12:1-3

Faith Without Works Is Dead

"What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without giving them the things needed for the body, what good[a] is that? So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead." - James 2:14-17

GET IN THE GAME

If you hang around me for a while and get  to know me, you will find I often use Sports cliches, sports analogies,  and movie lines, even in general conversation. I like a variety of  sports, have played and coached a few. I am also a movie buff. Therefore  all of this may often intertwine in my general conversation.

In sports, a term is often used for those  who do not get into the game, they are called “bench warmers”. Are  there people who may be bench warmers of their faith, or their Calling,  or what God’s purpose for them?  Think about it, when you were saved,  you were given the Holy Spirit, Spiritual Gifts, and seeds of Fruits of  the Spirit. He didn’t intend us to be sideline observers, He doesn’t  necessarily want us to be just Fans. He wants us to take up our cross,  (not our therapeutic mattress) and FOLLOW HIM.

Philippians 4:4-9

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.  Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

“But you, my dear friends, must remember what the apostles of our Lord  Jesus Christ predicted. They told you that in the last times there would  be scoffers whose purpose in life is to satisfy their ungodly de  sires. These people are the ones who are creating divisions among you.  They follow their natural instincts because they do not have God’s  Spirit in them. But you, dear friends, must build each other up in your  most holy faith, pray in the power of the Holy Spirit, and await the  mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will bring you eternal life. In this  way, you will keep yourselves safe in God’s love. And you must show  mercy to those whose faith is wavering. Rescue others by snatching them  from the flames of judgment. Show mercy to still others, but do so with  great caution, hating the sins that contaminate their lives.” - Jude 1:17-23

Humans are consumers. We buy things, and we eat things. However we don’t just consume food, and buy things, we absorb things into our minds through what we see and hear.

We have all heard the expression, “You are what you eat”, and “Garbage in, garbage out.”

However, we also have a tendency to become what we often see and hear. In other words, if you listen and hear garbage, you may exude garbage. In addition, if you associate too much time with garbage, then garbage you may become.

“Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” - Philippians 4:8

Depression is a real illness. A treatable mental illness. It affects nearly 20% of the population. According to the Centers for Disease Control every American adult with suffer at least two bouts with depression in their life time. It can be triggered by traumatic life events, a death of a loved one(s), a chemical imbalance in the brain, or it can be hereditary. It is nothing to be ashamed of or embarrassed. Most often people suffering from depression become withdrawn, lethargic, uninterested in things and activities they once enjoyed. They often become filled with feelings of worthlessness or immense shame. Often it is no fault of their own. It is an illness that many people have endured.

Statistics by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and NAMI states that 50% of all Americans will suffer from a mental health crisis and that on average every American adult will suffer from at least two bouts of depression in their life time.

Anxiety is actually the most common mental illness affecting 40 million American adults 18 years or older. 18% of the American population. Major Depressive Disorder affects 14.8 million American adults, or 6.7% of the American population. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder PTSD affects 7.7 million American adults or 3.5% of the American population. (Source: Anxiety and Depression Association of America. ADAA.) 5.7 million or 2.6% Americans suffer from BiPolar Disorder. (Source: Depression and BiPolar Support Alliance. [DBSA].) Obsessive Compulsive Disorder affects about 5 million American adults or about 2 to 3 percent. (Source: Psych Central). About 1 in 20 individuals live with Borderline Personality Disorder. (Source: NAMI.) These statistics are from those that seeks help, and obtain a diagnosis. Imagine what the numbers might be with those who don’t seek help. Mental illness is now being called the “silent epidemic.”

The good news is that these mental illnesses can be treated and recovery for many mental illnesses is not only possible, it occurs. Unfortunately there is still a stigma associated with depression and other mental illnesses and often people don’t seek help. Often because of fear of being out-casted to even shunned due to the stigmatization associated with mental illness. This stigma needs to stop. Stigma is caused because of the lack of education, knowledge, wisdom and empathy about mental illness.

If you are someone who is suffering from depression, anxiety, or activities or lack thereof, interfering with normal activities or know someone who is; ask for help, or if someone you know is suffering or showing long periods of sadness extending more than a week, help them get help. Don’t wait. Talk to them and by all means listen to them. Often an empathetic and caring ear can go a very long way. There are many resources of help. And in America, it is now affordable to seek help for mental illness. And there is no dollar amount that is too much to help someone with depression and even possibly save a life. No matter how hopeless you or someone you know may feel or think their situation is, there is hope, and there is treatment.

People often don’t get the mental health services they need because they don’t know where to start. Talk to your primary care doctor or another health professional about mental health problems. Ask them to connect you with the right mental health services.

DEVOTIONAL || I Know Adversity, Loss, Pain, and I Know Where My Strength Comes From || Philippians 4:11-13

"Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me." -Philippians 4:11-13

“So to keep me from becoming conceited because of the surpassing greatness of the revelations, a thorn was given me in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to harass me, to keep me from becoming conceited. Three times I pleaded with the Lord about this, that it should leave me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” - 2 Corinthians 12:7-10

“saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.” - Luke 22:42-44

“But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. - 2 Corinthians 12:9

“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.” - Philippians 4:13

“But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” - Matthew 19:26

Ikigai  生き甲斐   is a Japanese concept meaning “a reason for being”. Everyone, according to the Japanese,  has an ikigai. Finding it requires a deep and often lengthy search of  self. Such a search is regarded as being very important, since it is  believed that discovery of one’s ikigai brings satisfaction and meaning to life

If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ who is your[a] life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.

5 Put to death therefore what is earthly in you:[b] sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. 6 On account of these the wrath of God is coming.[c] 7 In these you too once walked, when you were living in them. 8 But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self[d] with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator. 11 Here there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave,[e] free; but Christ is all, and in all.

12 Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. “ - Colossians 3:1-17

"Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ." - Colossians 3:23-24

"Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish. n the same way husbands should love their wives as their own bodies. He who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church, because we are members of his body. “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.” - Ephesians 5:25-31

“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. “You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. "That experience is worth boasting about, but I’m not going to do it. I will boast only about my weaknesses. If I wanted to boast, I would be no fool in doing so, because I would be telling the truth. But I won’t do it, because I don’t want anyone to give me credit beyond what they can see in my life or hear in my message, even though I have received such wonderful revelations from God. So to keep me from becoming proud, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger from Satan to torment me and keep me from becoming proud. Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away.  Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.    2 Corinthians 12:5-9 (NLT)

FAITH in FIVE | ask seek, knock, it will be given to you, or should it be given? | Matthew 7:7-11

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him! - Matthew 7:7-11

Episode 2 "Deceived Betrayed and Sold"

Joseph Sold by His Brothers

12 Now his brothers went to pasture their father's flock near Shechem. 13 And Israel said to Joseph, “Are not your brothers pasturing the flock at Shechem? Come, I will send you to them.” And he said to him, “Here I am.” 14 So he said to him, “Go now, see if it is well with your brothers and with the flock, and bring me word.” So he sent him from the Valley of Hebron, and he came to Shechem. 15 And a man found him wandering in the fields. And the man asked him, “What are you seeking?” 16 “I am seeking my brothers,” he said. “Tell me, please, where they are pasturing the flock.” 17 And the man said, “They have gone away, for I heard them say, ‘Let us go to Dothan.’” So Joseph went after his brothers and found them at Dothan.

18 They saw him from afar, and before he came near to them they conspired against him to kill him. 19 They said to one another, “Here comes this dreamer. 20 Come now, let us kill him and throw him into one of the pits.[b] Then we will say that a fierce animal has devoured him, and we will see what will become of his dreams.” 21 But when Reuben heard it, he rescued him out of their hands, saying, “Let us not take his life.” 22 And Reuben said to them, “Shed no blood; throw him into this pit here in the wilderness, but do not lay a hand on him”—that he might rescue him out of their hand to restore him to his father. 23 So when Joseph came to his brothers, they stripped him of his robe, the robe of many colors that he wore. 24 And they took him and threw him into a pit. The pit was empty; there was no water in it.

25 Then they sat down to eat. And looking up they saw a caravan of Ishmaelites coming from Gilead, with their camels bearing gum, balm, and myrrh, on their way to carry it down to Egypt. 26 Then Judah said to his brothers, “What profit is it if we kill our brother and conceal his blood? 27 Come, let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hand be upon him, for he is our brother, our own flesh.” And his brothers listened to him. 28 Then Midianite traders passed by. And they drew Joseph up and lifted him out of the pit, and sold him to the Ishmaelites for twenty shekels[c] of silver. They took Joseph to Egypt.

29 When Reuben returned to the pit and saw that Joseph was not in the pit, he tore his clothes 30 and returned to his brothers and said, “The boy is gone, and I, where shall I go?” 31 Then they took Joseph's robe and slaughtered a goat and dipped the robe in the blood. 32 And they sent the robe of many colors and brought it to their father and said, “This we have found; please identify whether it is your son's robe or not.” 33 And he identified it and said, “It is my son's robe. A fierce animal has devoured him. Joseph is without doubt torn to pieces.” 34 Then Jacob tore his garments and put sackcloth on his loins and mourned for his son many days. 35 All his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted and said, “No, I shall go down to Sheol to my son, mourning.” Thus his father wept for him. 36 Meanwhile the Midianites had sold him in Egypt to Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, the captain of the guard.

Episode 1 “Joseph’s Dreams and Brothers Hate”

Joseph's Dreams

37

Jacob lived in the land of his father's sojournings, in the land of Canaan.

2 These are the generations of Jacob.

Joseph, being seventeen years old, was pasturing the flock with his brothers. He was a boy with the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father's wives. And Joseph brought a bad report of them to their father. 3 Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his sons, because he was the son of his old age. And he made him a robe of many colors. 4 But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him and could not speak peacefully to him.

5 Now Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers they hated him even more. 6 He said to them, “Hear this dream that I have dreamed: 7 Behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and behold, my sheaf arose and stood upright. And behold, your sheaves gathered around it and bowed down to my sheaf.” 8 His brothers said to him, “Are you indeed to reign over us? Or are you indeed to rule over us?” So they hated him even more for his dreams and for his words.

9 Then he dreamed another dream and told it to his brothers and said, “Behold, I have dreamed another dream. Behold, the sun, the moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me.” 10 But when he told it to his father and to his brothers, his father rebuked him and said to him, “What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall I and your mother and your brothers indeed come to bow ourselves to the ground before you?” 11 And his brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the saying in mind.

EPISODE 6

Galatians 6

Bear One Another's Burdens

Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. 2 Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ. 3 For if anyone thinks he is something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. 4 But let each one test his own work, and then his reason to boast will be in himself alone and not in his neighbor. 5 For each will have to bear his own load.

6 Let the one who is taught the word share all good things with the one who teaches. 7 Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. 10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Final Warning and Benediction

11 See with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. 12 It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh who would force you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. 13 For even those who are circumcised do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may boast in your flesh. 14 But far be it from me to boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. 15 For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. 16 And as for all who walk by this rule, peace and mercy be upon them, and upon the Israel of God.

17 From now on let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.

18 The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brothers. Amen.

Galatians Deep Dive EPISODE 5, Galatians 5

Christ Has Set Us Free

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.

2 Look: I, Paul, say to you that if you accept circumcision, Christ will be of no advantage to you. 3 I testify again to every man who accepts circumcision that he is obligated to keep the whole law. 4 You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. 5 For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love.

7 You were running well. Who hindered you from obeying the truth? 8 This persuasion is not from him who calls you. 9 A little leaven leavens the whole lump. 10 I have confidence in the Lord that you will take no other view, and the one who is troubling you will bear the penalty, whoever he is. 11 But if I, brothers, still preach circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been removed. 12 I wish those who unsettle you would emasculate themselves!

13 For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. 14 For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another. Keep in Step with the Spirit

16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, 21 envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

25 If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

EPISODE 4, Galatians 4

Sons and Heirs

"I mean that the heir, as long as he is a child, is no different from a slave, though he is the owner of everything, 2 but he is under guardians and managers until the date set by his father. 3 In the same way we also, when we were children, were enslaved to the elementary principles of the world. 4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons. 6 And because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” 7 So you are no longer a slave, but a son, and if a son, then an heir through God.

Paul's Concern for the Galatians

8 Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to those that by nature are not gods. 9 But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more? 10 You observe days and months and seasons and years! 11 I am afraid I may have labored over you in vain. 12 Brothers, I entreat you, become as I am, for I also have become as you are. You did me no wrong. 13 You know it was because of a bodily ailment that I preached the gospel to you at first, 14 and though my condition was a trial to you, you did not scorn or despise me, but received me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus. 15 What then has become of your blessedness? For I testify to you that, if possible, you would have gouged out your eyes and given them to me. 16 Have I then become your enemy by telling you the truth? 17 They make much of you, but for no good purpose. They want to shut you out, that you may make much of them. 18 It is always good to be made much of for a good purpose, and not only when I am present with you, 19 my little children, for whom I am again in the anguish of childbirth until Christ is formed in you! 20 I wish I could be present with you now and change my tone, for I am perplexed about you.

Example of Hagar and Sarah

21 Tell me, you who desire to be under the law, do you not listen to the law? 22 For it is written that Abraham had two sons, one by a slave woman and one by a free woman. 23 But the son of the slave was born according to the flesh, while the son of the free woman was born through promise. 24 Now this may be interpreted allegorically: these women are two covenants. One is from Mount Sinai, bearing children for slavery; she is Hagar. 25 Now Hagar is Mount Sinai in Arabia; she corresponds to the present Jerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children. 26 But the Jerusalem above is free, and she is our mother. 27 For it is written,

“Rejoice, O barren one who does not bear;

break forth and cry aloud, you who are not in labor!

For the children of the desolate one will be more

than those of the one who has a husband.”

28 Now you, brothers, like Isaac, are children of promise. 29 But just as at that time he who was born according to the flesh persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, so also it is now. 30 But what does the Scripture say? “Cast out the slave woman and her son, for the son of the slave woman shall not inherit with the son of the free woman.” 31 So, brothers, we are not children of the slave but of the free woman.

By Faith, or by Works of the Law?

3 O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. 2 Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? 3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? 4 Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith— just as Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”?

7 Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. 8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.” 9 So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

The Righteous Shall Live by Faith

10 For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it is written, “Cursed be everyone who does not abide by all things written in the Book of the Law, and do them.” 11 Now it is evident that no one is justified before God by the law, for “The righteous shall live by faith.” 12 But the law is not of faith, rather “The one who does them shall live by them.” 13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us—for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is hanged on a tree”— 14 so that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we might receive the promised Spirit through faith.

The Law and the Promise

15 To give a human example, brothers: even with a man-made covenant, no one annuls it or adds to it once it has been ratified. 16 Now the promises were made to Abraham and to his offspring. It does not say, “And to offsprings,” referring to many, but referring to one, “And to your offspring,” who is Christ. 17 This is what I mean: the law, which came 430 years afterward, does not annul a covenant previously ratified by God, so as to make the promise void. 18 For if the inheritance comes by the law, it no longer comes by promise; but God gave it to Abraham by a promise.

19 Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made, and it was put in place through angels by an intermediary. 20 Now an intermediary implies more than one, but God is one.

21 Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law. 22 But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

23 Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. 24 So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. 25 But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, 26 for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's offspring, heirs according to promise.

Paul Accepted by the Apostles

Then after fourteen years I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas, taking Titus along with me. 2 I went up because of a revelation and set before them (though privately before those who seemed influential) the gospel that I proclaim among the Gentiles, in order to make sure I was not running or had not run in vain. 3 But even Titus, who was with me, was not forced to be circumcised, though he was a Greek. 4 Yet because of false brothers secretly brought in—who slipped in to spy out our freedom that we have in Christ Jesus, so that they might bring us into slavery— 5 to them we did not yield in submission even for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you. 6 And from those who seemed to be influential (what they were makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality)—those, I say, who seemed influential added nothing to me. 7 On the contrary, when they saw that I had been entrusted with the gospel to the uncircumcised, just as Peter had been entrusted with the gospel to the circumcised 8 (for he who worked through Peter for his apostolic ministry to the circumcised worked also through me for mine to the Gentiles), 9 and when James and Cephas and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given to me, they gave the right hand of fellowship to Barnabas and me, that we should go to the Gentiles and they to the circumcised. 10 Only, they asked us to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do.

Paul Opposes Peter

11 But when Cephas came to Antioch, I opposed him to his face, because he stood condemned. 12 For before certain men came from James, he was eating with the Gentiles; but when they came he drew back and separated himself, fearing the circumcision party. 13 And the rest of the Jews acted hypocritically along with him, so that even Barnabas was led astray by their hypocrisy. 14 But when I saw that their conduct was not in step with the truth of the gospel, I said to Cephas before them all, “If you, though a Jew, live like a Gentile and not like a Jew, how can you force the Gentiles to live like Jews?”

Justified by Faith

15 We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; 16 yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified. 17 But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we too were found to be sinners, is Christ then a servant of sin? Certainly not! 18 For if I rebuild what I tore down, I prove myself to be a transgressor. 19 For through the law I died to the law, so that I might live to God. 20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. 21 I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness were through the law, then Christ died for no purpose.

This may “ruffle some feathers.” However, this topic and what I believe God has laid upon my heart has been on both my heart and mind…

I have attended and visited a variety of churches in my life time. Most recently I have been visiting several different churches. Allow me to first preface that I am not judging a church, church leader, nor any member of any congregation. Besides, some ONE already has that job, and I surely wouldn’t want it. There is no perfect church, as there is no perfect human. We all fall short, and make mistakes. However, there has to be an Authority, and Final Word, and that comes from the bible. I believe when we over look this, the true life of Jesus, what He taught, how He served, led, loved and lived, we are destined to steer off course and can do more harm to the Kingdom than good.

Let’s simply get to the basics. The salvation message is rather simple. Humanity fell in the Garden of Eden by the free choice of disobedience to God, and eating of the fruit. Since that time all humanity was on the path to hell. God loved His creation so much that He provided His son to take upon our sin, and sacrifice Himself on the death of the Cross. Jesus died, was buried, and on the 3rd day He arose, visited with His apostles and others witnessed Him. He then ascended unto to Father God Almighty in Heaven making intercession for us. Salvation is a gift, and to be saved you must believe in your heart, and confess with your mouth this truth. Upon this acceptance, repentance of sin, and confession, believers are provided a Comforter in the Holy Spirit, and to strive to live a new life as a New Creation through Jesus Christ. To grow closer to Him, to lead, serve, teach, love and live as Christ did for today’s times.

The book of Galatians. Multi part video devotional series. "Galatians Deep Dive" Episode 1, Galatians 1-2

Author: Galatians 1:1 clearly identifies the apostle Paul as the writer of the epistle to the Galatians.

Date of Writing: Galatians is likely the first New Testament book to be written, composed sometime soon after AD 49.

Purpose of Writing: The churches in Galatia were comprised of both Jewish and Gentile converts. Paul’s purpose in writing to these churches was to confirm them in the faith, especially concerning justification by faith alone, apart from the works of the Law of Moses. Galatians was written because the churches of that region were facing a theological crisis. The essential truth of justification by faith rather than by human works was being denied by the Judaizers—legalistic Jews who insisted that Christians must keep the Mosaic Law. In particular, the Judaizers insisted on circumcision as a requirement for Gentiles who wished to be saved. In other words, convert to Judaism first, and then you are eligible to become a Christian. When Paul learned that this heresy was being taught to the Galatian churches, he composed an epistle to emphasize our liberty in Christ and to counter the perversion of the gospel that the Judaizers promoted.

Key Verses: Galatians 2:16: “Know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.”

Galatians 2:20: "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”

I have lost count on the people I have heard about that have been  betrayed, or emotionally hurt by other people, which includes friends,  business partners, a spouse, and Christian leaders. Some have asked me  how do you know if someone is reliable, honest, or not a “false  prophet.” Well, first of all we all make mistakes and are capable of  falling into an error of our ways. However, my typical recommendations  come from my own experiences, knowledge, and, of course, the bible. Here  is some of my advice and my recommendations:

Ikigai 生き甲斐 is a Japanese concept meaning “a reason for being”. Everyone, according to the Japanese, has an ikigai. Finding it requires a deep and often lengthy search of self. Such a search is regarded as being very important, since it is believed that discovery of one’s ikigai brings satisfaction and meaning to life.[1]

In the culture of Okinawa, ikigai is thought of as “a reason to get up in the morning”; that is, a reason to enjoy life. In a TED Talk, Dan Buettner referenced ikigai as one of the reasons people in the area had such long lives.

What is happiness? Can you define happiness? Are you happy? Is there a time you have been very happy?

The dictionary defines happy as:

: feeling pleasure and enjoyment because of your life, situation, etc.

: showing or causing feelings of pleasure and enjoyment.

:pleased or glad about a particular situation, event, etc.

Take a look at your life. Not the pains or sadness of the past, but the good times and wonderful memories. The day of your High School or College graduation. True love. Your wedding day. The birth of your child/children. The anticipation of Christmas on Christmas Eve as a child, or as an adult. Holidays with family and/or friends. Watching your kids laugh, learn and play. The embrace, laughter and smiles of your spouse or girlfriend/boyfriend. The job promotion, new job, or the obtaining the career you always wanted. The bonus, or victory of a large sale, or big raise. The victories of your favorite sports team. The wedding of your child or children. Finding out your test for cancer was negative.

Each of us have a lot to be happy about. I am confident each of us can count our blessings and begin naming them. List them down. Post them on your refrigerator. Recall them and be thankful for them. We all have things to be thankful for. No matter how bad things may seem, there is hope.

There are also times of sadness. They will inevitably come. Sometimes these valleys can last for days.

I cringe when I read or hear Christians judge one another and argue, especially in a public format or on social media. Not saying I have not done that myself as a young,  impressionable new Christian in a certain, rather strict denomination,  many years ago. However the bible and wisdom tells us to do otherwise.  The bible actually warns of wrongfully judging others, and arguing,  especially when others can hear or see us. It now makes me both angry  and sad when I see or hear it. You see, if you truly and deeply study  the life and personality of Jesus, He did not come to judge, argue, or  divide, He came to walk alongside, to love, lead, and teach us to the  understanding of God the Father, and His mission and purpose.

As believers, I believe we should strive live, lead, teach and love as Jesus did. We should be SPUNGE WORTHY, not CRINGE WORTHY.

Are you Battle Tested? There is a war going on every day! Did you know there is a war going on every day, 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year? Have you been Battle Tested? Do you have a Battle Buddy? Do you know what a Battle Buddy is?

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.” - Ephesians 6:10-20

AMBITION, EXCELLENCE, HUMILITY, PERFECTIONISM

Humility as defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

: freedom from pride or arrogance : the quality or state of being humble

Humble as defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary:

: not proud or haughty : not arrogant or assertive

“So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” - Philippians 2:1-11

If we are to strive to lead, serve, teach, love and live as Jesus did, we must exude humility. We must be humble, and not prideful. To have the same mind as Christ, we must strive to do things not from selfish ambition or conceit.

This is not to say we do not do all that we do to the best of our ability, talents, knowledge and strength. We should pursue excellence in all that we say and do.

“Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge,” - 2 Peter 1:5

“Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,” - Colossians 3:23

“so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ;” - Philippians 1:10

“An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, But she who shames him is like rottenness in his bones.” - Proverbs 12:4

Not to coin the phrase from the movie, Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure, but we should indeed “be excellent to one another.” and we should pursue excellence but not perfectionism.

There is nothing wrong with ambition. In fact it is good, just as in the verses I shared above to pursue excellence. We should be ambitious, we should set goals, and strive to achieve them and excel in all that we do, and set out minds to. However, in the flesh, it is easy to pursue selfish ambition. When your efforts become more about you, ways of this world, or overly financial gain, that can often be selfish, and come from of source of conceit. We should think about others, just as Christ did, and does. Even more significant than ourselves.

This may not seem natural. However, was it natural for Christ to wash Judas feet, and break bread and drink wine with him at the Last Supper when Jesus knew Judas would betray Him. Christ exuded love and humility. Although Christ prayed to the Father to have this cup pass, which was the suffering and death on the cross, Christ did ask be it God’s will, and He let God’s will be done. That was humility to a suffering, and humiliating death. So whether you are a leader, or a subordinate, whether you are a teacher or a student, whether you are a parent or a child, we must exude humility and do nothing from selfish ambition, or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than ourselves.

Devotional, "Remain", "Love One Another"

In John 15:9-10 NIV, Jesus says, “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love.”

And a few verses later, “This is my command: Love each other.” John 15:12 NCV

Jesus explains that we know what the Father’s love looks like because Jesus Himself showed it to us. He then challenges us to continue in this love. To remain. And He explains exactly how we can do that: by keeping His commands. What commands? Again, Jesus is super clear. His explicit instruction was for us to love each other.

In John 15, Jesus echoes the new command He issued back in chapter 13: a command that would become the trademark of His followers even to this day. He taught us, saying:

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35 NIV

“O Lord, you have searched me and known me!

You know when I sit down and when I rise up;

you discern my thoughts from afar.

You search out my path and my lying down

and are acquainted with all my ways.

Even before a word is on my tongue,

behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.

You hem me in, behind and before,

and lay your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;

it is high; I cannot attain it.

Where shall I go from your Spirit?

Or where shall I flee from your presence?

If I ascend to heaven, you are there!

If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!

If I take the wings of the morning

and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,

even there your hand shall lead me,

and your right hand shall hold me.

If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,

and the light about me be night,”

even the darkness is not dark to you;

the night is bright as the day,

for darkness is as light with you.

For you formed my inward parts;

you knitted me together in my mother's womb.

I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

Wonderful are your works;

my soul knows it very well.

My frame was not hidden from you,

when I was being made in secret,

intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed substance;

in your book were written, every one of them,

the days that were formed for me,

when as yet there was none of them.

How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!

How vast is the sum of them!

If I would count them, they are more than the sand.

I awake, and I am still with you.” - Psalm 139:1-18

This morning's Devotional is on Romans 12:9-21 title Marks of a True Christian.

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.” To the contrary, “if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” - Romans 12:9-21

DEVOTIONAL | Why get fit, be fit, and remain fit? | Get Fit Stay Fit | Fitness and the Bible | 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” - Romans 12:1-2

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.” - 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

“Choose for your tribes wise, understanding, and experienced men, and I will appoint them as your heads.’ “ - Deuteronomy 1:13

“For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees,” - Hebrews 12:11-12

“Strengthen the weak hands, and make firm the feeble knees.” - Isaiah 35:3

“A wise man is full of strength, and a man of knowledge enhances his might,” - Proverbs 24:5

“At the end of ten days it was seen that they were better in appearance and fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate the king's food.” - Daniel 1:15

On this morning's Devotional we walk through Romans 12:3-8. The Gifts of Grace. We all should celebrate, exude, and utilize our Spiritual Gifts.

“For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.” - Romans 12:3-8

Today’s Devotional is from Luke 2:8-14, "And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”

Today’s Devotional is from Ecclesiastes 3:9-13 NLT "What do people really get for all their hard work? I have seen the burden God has placed on us all. Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. So I concluded there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can. And people should eat and drink and enjoy the fruits of their labor, for these are gifts from God. "

Devotional

WildLife Bible Plan Day 1: Start Really Living

"In John 10:10, Jesus made life sound pretty simple. There’s an enemy who steals, kills, and destroys—and then there’s Jesus who came to give us life, and life to the full.

When’s the last time you were like, “Man, I am just living to the full right now!” More likely you’ve said, “Life is full,” but you meant it a little differently. Maybe you’re stressed, unsure of where your career is going, addicted, or feeling distant from God and the people you love.

What’s the difference between the life Jesus said He came to give and the life so many of us live? That’s a good question. So, we gathered a bunch of guys, like you, to figure out how to start really living.

I’m Jason, one of those guys, and I’m addicted to what we’ll call the “performance treadmill.”

As a kid, I watched a well-meaning doctor use a chart to show my mom I was morbidly obese. I had a big vocabulary for a kid. To me, those words meant not only did I not measure up to the norm, but I was also sick and twisted. Ouch.

These are the kinds of moments that can easily begin to steal, kill, and destroy.

For the next couple of decades, I spent too much energy trying to convince God and everyone else that I measured up. “Just Jason” wasn’t enough. I decided I had to be the best at everything else. You relate?

Trying to compensate by being the best-ever at college, marriage, parenting, career, or whatever is kind of like trying to fill a valley with dollar-store squirt gun. It’s not really living.

So how do we start really living? Though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, though pain opens up holes in our lives, God is with us. In our weakness, He is strong. God’s presence can fill and heal our valleys so we don’t have to."

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” - John 10:10

“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.” - 2 Corinthians 12:9-10

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” - Ephesians 2:8-9

On this morning's Devotional I share a verse in Proverbs:

"Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment." - Proverbs 9:10 NLT

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’

“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not clothe me, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’ Then they also will answer, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to you?’ Then he will answer them, saying, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’ And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.” - Matthew 25:31-46

The question proposed are we "Goats", "God's Sheep" or "Mankind's Sheeple" while discussing where wisdom is found, and where it may not be found. I discuss having a Mission/Purpose statement to guide your thoughts, and actions. In this Devotional I share 3 resources that I recommend:

Today's Devotional comes from the book of John

“Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In  my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told  you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a  place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where  I am you may be also.  And you know the way to where I am going.”  Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can  we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and  the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. If you had known  me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him  and have seen him.” - John 14:1-7

“Though I have much to write to you, I would rather not use paper and  ink. Instead I hope to come to you and talk face to face, so that our  joy may be complete.” - 2 John 12  “Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I  do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies  ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of  God in Christ Jesus.” -  Philippians 3:13-14

DEVOTIONAL with Bro. Martin for INDEPENDENCE WEEK, DAY 1, JULY 1st, 2020:

On today's and DEVOTIONAL, DAILY WORD and PRAYER TIME, I share my reading from Psalm 33:12-22 and how God was speaking to me, and my take-aways.

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, The people whom He has chosen for His own inheritance.” The Lord looks from heaven; He sees all the sons of men; From His dwelling place He looks out On all the inhabitants of the earth, He who fashions the hearts of them all, He who understands all their works. The king is not saved by a mighty army; A warrior is not delivered by great strength. A horse is a false hope for victory; Nor does it deliver anyone by its great strength. Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who [b]hope for His lovingkindness, To deliver their soul from death And to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart rejoices in Him, Because we trust in His holy name. Let Your lovingkindness, O Lord, be upon us, According as we have hoped in You.”

On today's and DEVOTIONAL, DAILY WORD and PRAYER TIME, I share my reading from John 14:21 and how God was speaking to me, and my take-aways.

Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” - John 14:21 ESV

THE 10 COMMANDMENTS:

  1. Thou shalt have no other gods before me
  2. Honor thy father and thy mother
  3. Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy
  4. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image
  5. Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain
  6. Thou shalt not kill
  7. Thou shalt not commit adultery
  8. Thou shalt not steal
  9. Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour
  10. Thou shalt not covet

But when the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. And one of them, a lawyer, asked him a question to test him. “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.” - Matthew 22:34-37

Fear, Sadness, the Virus, and Holy Week

A Devotional and FaithFit Podcast discussing fear, doubt, anxiety, depress, the Corona Virus and Holy Week.

I discuss this topic openly, share, and expound upon this verse "do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." - Philippians 4:6-7

Statistics by the Centers for Disease Control states that 50% of all Americans will suffer from a mental health crisis and that on average every American adult will suffer from at least two bouts of depression in their life time. (Source: CDC, NAMI).

On today' Daily Word and Prayer Time, LIVE, I share a set of some of my most favorite verses, that I call my Life Verse, Hebrew 12:1-3; "Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted."

I summarize how these verses have spoken to me, and still speak to me to this very day, in addition to touching on some of my own personal testimonies.

DAILY WORD and PRAYER TIME: HOME a place of Family, Rest, and Re-Charge

April 2nd, 2020

Staying at home during this time is not necessarily a bad thing, it can be a very GOOD thing... We we’re built by our Creator to “come home,” every so often. Father God built us to need, and to receive, his loving care. He’s built us to be restored, and re-charged by Him. Psalm 23:1-6; Matthew 11:28

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. ." - Matthew 11:28

"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever." - Psalm 23:1-6

I made a commitment for the New Year as part of my New Year Resolution to get more fit and lose weight. To get healthier for not only myself, but for my children so that they can enjoy having a very active, healthy, long living dad. So two and a half months into it as I am writing this article, I have lost nearly 20 pounds, sleep much better, lowered my Resting Heart Rate by 20, and feel at least a decade younger. This is how I did it, and how I am continuing…

The journey began after my son and I completed the 1000 New Year’s Day Kicks at our Karate Dojo with some other students as an Annual Tradition.

I started out with the Personal Mission Statement saying and cliche of, “Getting Lit and Fit, while saving plenty in 2020.” The Fit part was obviously referring to my fitness plans. The Lit part was to use my talents, time and treasure more to make a positive impact in the lives of other and honor my faith. Saving plenty was the commitment of completing Financial Peace University by Dave Ramsey and strive to be a better steward of my finances, get completely out of debt, and save money for emergencies, vacation, and a better future for my children and I.

For my “Fitness Challenge”

I did fairly well with my challenges and in the process have developed a healthy routine that I feel as if I can make it a away of life. In other words, something I can manage and maintain for the long term, most likely the rest of my life, verses a certain amount of days or weeks of a challenge. Here it is:

1.) Mediterranean Diet (with cheat days on special occasions) with Intermittent Fasting (16/8) beginning 3/2/2020. My 8 hr window is 2pm to 10pm

2.) Drinking 1/2 gallon (2000 ml) of water a day

3.) Daily exercise and/or work out routine with Sunday being a complete day of rest. (see Daily Plan below)

4.) Reading 5 pages of a non-fiction/self improvement book a day
