Co-host Lisa Mitchell and I welcome Connie Reguli, an attorney in Tennessee who is willing to discuss this aspect of the foster care system.  There are many CPS areas of concern, but we are looking at cradle-to-adulthood violations of human rights sustained by foster youth in juvenile detention facilities.  These kids are warehoused and are without access to outside communication. Many have lost their biological ties and have no one to advocate for them. 

The following areas will be addressed in our discussion:

Statistics Outcomes for foster care youth, including homelessness, criminalization, sex trade, unemployment, inadequate education, disenfranchisement, and lack of vital documents. Treatment by juvenile justice system: lack of representation, access to records, and to research, conditions in jails Types of detention Mandatory sentencing Sex offender registry Funding Medicaid fraud Prescription medications Court-appointed attorneys Retaliation
