The plan would transfer Seminary Pointe into community ownership through a partnership with the Avalon Community Land Trust. It would require collaboration between the Monroe County Capital Improvement Board and the city’s redevelopment commission, which are currently at odds over a potential land swap involving the convention center expansion. The Bloomington chapter of Meals on Wheels has been serving homebound locals for over 50 years. Historically many of those clients are elderly – seniors who cannot shop or cook for themselves. But Meals on Wheels isn’t aged-based; they also serve people with a chronic illness or a disability or injury. Carrie McHaley is the executive director of Bloomington Meals on Wheels. She says the impact goes beyond nutrition – it’s about human connection. For some clients that volunteer bringing a hot meal might be the only person they see or talk to that day, and having someone checking on you might just save your life. Carrie has a great example of that on a new episode of Activate, coming your way right now on the WFHB Local News.
