Featured Segments:

From WFHB’s Youth Radio, we have Episode 5 of “What the Health?!” a series on WFHB’s Youth Radio where we chat with healthcare professionals to explore the future of health, global healthcare policies, and offer unfiltered insight into the realities of working in healthcare. In episode 5, Winnie interviews Shelby VanDerMoere, Mobile Integrated Health Program Manager and Community EMT for the City of Bloomington Fire Department.

Our next segment comes from the May episode of the Brown County Hour, on the anniversary of storms that caused widespread damage in this area. Pam Raider speaks with Bruce and Donna Clegg who lost at least 120 trees in the Spring 2025 tornado. They recount their experience and express gratitude that their home, and their lives, were spared. We also hear from Steve and Vera Grubbs who had just returned from New Mexico when a tornado hit their Brown County property in Spring 2025. They didn’t even make it into the house, driving straight into the garage and staying in the car for shelter. A huge tree grazed their house as it came down in a storm that bulldozed 35 acres and their barn.

Our archive segment today draws from the September 29, 2017 episode of Kite Line, a weekly program on WFHB devoted to prison issues around the Midwest and beyond. In this episode, we hear from Nasim Chatha of the Alliance for Global Justice. She talks about prison imperialism and the impact of mass incarceration in the U.S. on prison systems elsewhere in the world.

Now, from the music department, John Darnielle joined WFHB by phone for a fun conversation about The Mountain Goats forthcoming album “Days.” Darnielle talked about memory and changing perspective, revisiting the emotional landscape of the 1990s, album collaborators, and his connection to Bloomington — where he was born. We turn to Music Director Abby Noroozi for more.
