Pass by 208 S. Hillsdale Court on the east side of Bloomington during the day and you would likely have no idea you are at one of B-town’s hottest new house show hotspots. This is the home of Tiny Garage, where Alec McLaren is building his own concert venue, and yes, it is in his tiny garage. Bloomington’s house show scene ebbs and flows, with neighbor complaints leading to crackdowns on venues like The Pink Poodle and student-run venues like The Reef simply evaporating when tenants graduate and move on. Although Tiny Garage has hosted only about a dozen shows, McLaren’s creative vision – like theme nights and his custom-made double-decker couch – are quickly making Tiny Garage a place to be for local bands and music fans.
