In February, China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment announced a plan to eliminate severe air pollution by the end of 2025. To achieve this ambitious goal, China will tighten emission standards and boost clean energy and electric transport, including shifting freight from roads to rail and waterways (1). These strategies will build on the progress China has already made, but additional action will be needed to meet the proposed clean-air goals.
